Superbowl?

Can someone please explain what it is?
Well, imagine Chess and Rugby had babies with each other. One child would be named Curling. The other would be named American Football.Murcator wrote:Oooh, Poor rugby?
It's quite similar to Rugby, yes, more than British football. There's quite a few differences between the two though. I'd advise a couple of Youtube searches to see what it's like.Murcator wrote:Oooh, Poor rugby?
Oh, I know they wear armour. And are all fat, but glee really doesn't give you much more.Veck wrote:It's quite similar to Rugby, yes, more than British football. @Lindai I lol'd.
Only spme of them are fat, the ones whose job it is only to push other fat guys around. Most are incredibly athletic.Murcator wrote:Oh, I know they wear armour. Innit. I just call it American Rugby.Murcator wrote:I don't get why it's called football if everyone uses their hands.
Even the big fat guys are incredibly muscular and incredibly athletic. There are guys who are 300lbs and can run the 40m dash faster than I canJpot wrote:Only spme of them are fat, the ones whose job it is only to push other fat guys around. It is similar to rugby, but with lots of pads and equipment, which actually can make the sport much more hard-hitting and violent than rugby. It also allows forward passing, unlike rugby. Like someone else suggested, YouTube videos could help.
Well, the US still insists on using Imperial measurements all the time, instead of symbolic purposes like most European countries. An American will probably correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's because they want to show their difference from Britain, which is why they also have their own variations on the English language.Murcator wrote:Oh, I thought they weren't used anymore?
not sure about the language thing, though my guess would be that is more a matter of dialect than a need to be independent. Correct me if I'm wrong, but throughout the UK, English is spoken differently based on the region you are in.Veck wrote:Well, the US still insists on using Imperial measurements all the time, instead of symbolic purposes like most European countries. Yes...and not at all. There was a huge movement to stop using our measurement system but it failed for a number of reasons, of which "being different" isn't one but "being stubborn" likely is. The system we use is actually from old Middle Age measurements, and actually I believe the British Empire used to use them as well (they were called "Imperial Measurements" I believe?). The problem is here in the US we stayed with the old system, which doesn't correspond to the finalized version of the Imperial Measurements system. And actually it's not like we don't know what the metric system is. There are plenty of products here that do have metric weights.Veck wrote: An American will probably correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's because they want to show their difference from Britain, which is why they also have their own variations on the English language.
Who said they were wimpy??? And as several people have said, they are not fat, at least not in the traditional sense. They are large, but can be great athletes.Murcator wrote:Wait, so you are encouraged to be fat and whimpy?
I completely agree with scribbane here. This thread seems to be turning into a place to bash football and other things American which I have no problem with, but this is not the place for it. This thread was started with a question about what the superbowl is and that is what should be discussed here. We are discussing American Football, not your personal opinions about America and Americans in general.scribbane wrote:Who said they were wimpy??? I'm getting the impression that you are trying to slam football, rather than trying to fully understand what it is. I apologize if this is wrong, but this is just the impression I get.

Of course not, what a ridiculous suggestion.I'm getting the impression that you are trying to slam football, rather than trying to fully understand what it is. I apologize if this is wrong, but this is just the impression I get.
And if you want to mini-mod, then why don' you make a thread about that?If all you want to do is bash American Football, then go start a thread called "American Football is Stupid" or something.
They do rush into each other with bone-crushing force. Would you call the Nerevarine wimpy for using armour?Murcator wrote:*couch*armour*couch*Who said they were wimpy???
