Knowledge is power, but ignorance is bliss

Greetings to you.
So, while getting ridiculously pumped for this game like your normal run-of-the-mill geek, something occurred to me.
So, naturally, the Nords have figured out that something's amiss because, hey, there are a bunch of dragons flying around and setting people's faces on fire. But do they know that there's an imba dragon about to pwn the world? Has he been seen? If so, do they know what/who it is? Is he considered a myth? I'm not the most knowledgable one when it comes to elder scrolls lore, so this has bugged me for quite some time.
Also...HOW is that imba dragon supposed to destroy the world, and WHY? Besides, weren't the dragons kind of...obliterated and hunted to extinction?
Also, as a side note, I read that dwemer robotic units will make a reappearance. I didn't know the dwemer had ever lived in Skyrim? Is this a hint that they'll be back one day? Oh, one could hope.
Thank you in advance.

So he's a veteran in world destroying then? Kudos to him, but that doesn't explain WHY he does that, or if the populace of Skyrim knows it is he who is behind the recent turmoil. Or if he has been seen yet.

Perhaps Alduin's already here. If I giant freaking dragon appears ove the sky and announces "I'm here to destroy the world" then you'd probably believe him.

So far all the Elder Scroll games have been leading up to this. The Elder Scrolls list four events (The main story line of the previous games) leading to the return of Alduin. (I'd post a link but I'm not "authorized.")
1. Shattering of the Staff of Chaos (Arena)
2. The Return of the Numidium (Daggerfall)
3. The Red Mountain (Morrowind)
4. The Opening of the Oblivion Gates (Oblivion)
Also I THINK that the game starts at the beginning of the dragons coming, you don't start in the middle of it. Also the Nords are at the brink of civil war, so they are distracted by that too.

Interesting, they're on the BRINK of civil war? Oh, so many possibilities. Do we know anything about how Skyrim is doing as a whole besides a dragon menace and, well...tensions?
Anyway, I knew about the rest. I just wondered if they knew that it was this SPECIFIC dragon that was coming to bring an end to all things from cute kittens to adoring fans.
I also wondered WHY he was doing it. For teh lulz? Phat lewtz? Lack of self confidence? Peer pressure? Boredom?

you said yourself that he was destroying the adoring fan. Maybe that and STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM pushed him over the edge. I'd destroy a world to get rid of the Bosmer...

He takes no risks. All psychic guards must be eliminated.
Seriously though, I'm willing to bet it's because of peer pressure or some kind of love problems. Imagine him destroying the world, he gets bored, sighs and says something like "I've never known true intimacy..."

I think it's more of a Galactus thing where he "devours" it per se. i think they used the word devour.

Yeah, their king just died. Also GameInformer says that "The World Eater, the Great Dragon Alduin, is coming to fulfill his prophecy just as the Elder Scrolls predicted he would."
I dont know about any prophecy...(Goes onto wiki)
EDIT: Doesn't say anything. Guess we will have to wait for new articles/interviews.

And while we wait patiently and graciously for new articles and information, I'm gonna go by my theory that Alduin is doing this because of peer pressure. The other Gods think he's a wuss, so he's proving them wrong by destroying a planet.
Honestly, everything's better than "yeah, he's evil for the sake of being evil. Go kill him".

I can't help it, but this really reminds me of Cataclysm and the return of Deathwing.

Yeah but let's face it, that story doesn't make sense. I think Deathwing has died twice already. He's recycled material. Besides, he's being painted in a godlike sort of way, which bothers me to no end. He's also crazy (like all the other warcraft villains) and likes killing people for the sake of killing people.
Am I the only one who prefers villains to be equals with morals, who'd rather use intelligence, propaganda and whatever, rather than being over 9000 on the power level?

Why, because the antagonist is a dragon who wants to destroy everything? Come on, there are tons of differences between these two outside of that. Also, Bethesda's been working on this idea long before Cataclysm's plot was announced. Nobody stole anything from anybody. Its just a minor coincidence.

I'm sure there will be tons of baddies like this in the game for your butchering pleasures. However, I agree that the final battle should be as epic as possible. It needs to be memorable, and after what Bethesda pulled off in Oblivion's final moments (you don't do crap but watch the final battle), Bethesda's making up for it by giving players the epic final battle that they've been asking for.
What I think would be cool is that you battle Alduin as a man first, and after you defeat him, he transforms into super epic dragon at over 9000 power level (his true form, I guess?). Like a multi-tiered battle. Those are always awesome.

I'm not saying that they stole the idea, just that it reminds me of it. Also Guild Wars 2 brings back dragons that destroy the world. Don't know, maybe dragons are in again.

That would be cool, but if you were a super-dragon-world-eater, Why would you change into one of the weakest creatures on Nirn.

Why, for the lulz, of course.
Imagine that you wanted to exterminate all ants, and you were a jerk. You'd transform into an ant, have some ant hero defeat you and then you'd be like "Oh noooo, defeated by my own hubris!!" and then you get back up, turn into your true self, and watch the ant hero soil himself and pass out! Jerk Villain 101.

The thing is, do we want an almighty dragon that kills people for teh lulz? I don't know mates, that doesn't sound appealing at all. Well, maybe as a nice last boss, I guess...

Hahaha no no, i wasn't talking about his reason to end the world (or whatever he's doing), but his reason for appearing in human form.

Now I'm the one who starts thinking about Deathwing. Let's leave the dragon-in-human-form-thingy to WoW shall we, chaps?

I am hoping that a good part of the main quest will be trying to learn Alduin's motives for destroying the world (if that is even what Alduin will be trying to do), and I do hope that there is an unexpected but clear motive. As for the rest of Skyrim, I hope that there is some sort of debate among the population over what is going on, such as if this is Alduin, or another or unknown invasion.

Honestly, I've reached the point where I'm actually shunning new information about the game. Ignorance is bliss, and the game will be great. Also, I really want to avoid spoilers in the previews. This way the world will be more fresh to me in the new game.

Look, pretty much every story ever has been done before. What matters is good presentions and some level of uniqueness so that it doesn't feel like you're replaying the same game as the last.

Lol. It would be so much easier to believe you if you said this in September or October 2011. The game doesn't come out until 11.11.11. Can you actually wait that long without checking online for new information? I know I can't. But don't worry, all thats being revealed is the main plot points. Its like watching a movie trailer. Most of the main plot points are there, but all of the intricate details, thrills, and surprises are kept hidden for the player to discover them while playing.
