Fastest completion? (Legitimate clears only please)

So, I was thinking about horses and oblivion today (namely how their impact on fast travel appears to be their only use), and began to wonder how fast the game could be beaten, in game time. I know it's very possible to beat at level 1, and one could possibly skip the quests that require you to sleep, and thus go with a class that actually favors the skills they'd use so they level up quickly (hopefully quickly enough so the player would not have to focus on levelling skills).
So, I suppose what I'm getting at is, has anyone tried this little challenge before, and if they have, how fast did you complete the main quest?

It is possible to complete it the instant you have created your character through console demands. Although, other than that I have no idea.

the main quest was kind of a joke imo.
Get four books, kill some guys in red robes, do some errands, kill the snooty most non-climatic villian, and lead the un-crowned emperor to be the only one to actually do something important.
Soo..... yeah... pretty easy to do. Unless you like doing the same borring quest with the difficulty at high, posing a challange, but it is still the exact same sotryline

There's a main quest?...
No but.. the more I have played and the more tricks I learn to speed things up - the less I am inclined to do the main quest. I like it but it doesn't have a lot of replay value, like the rest of the game does. (I like the oblivion gates as a dungeon type).
But it could be interesting enough to figure out, given that the game is easier at lvl 1 as far as protecting NPCs go.

I think that was sarcasm, dude.
I've only completed the main quest once and it took about two weeks I think. That's only because I'm probably more of a casual gamer, and I'm not that good at figuring out/exploiting rpg systems, even relatively simple ones like Oblivion. I still haven't been able to beat the MQ in Morrowind. I must have tried at least 100 times by this point.
Other than that, I normally avoid going to Kvatch because I hate having Oblivion gates open when I have no intention of saving the world from them.

Heh, I probably should have specified that this is without console cheats, and playing the game vanilla.
As far as how bland the main quest is, I'm aware of that, but I chose it for a few reasons. First, it welcomes all types of classes, unlike guild quests which favor their own types of classes more than other ones. Second, if I'd picked one of the guild quests, some people might ask why that one and not any others... the main quest is fairly neutral. Another reason I picked the main quest is because, in-character-wise, it would seem prudent to do it ASAP. Daedra are pouring out of Oblivion gates all across Tamriel, waiting on YOU to save them... seems like something you'd be sorely tempted to hop on right away. Not to mention the game thrusts it onto you as soon as you start.
I'll probably re-install Oblivion myself and give it a shot sooner or later.

Yes, but if you stay away from Kvatch, the gates never come to pour out daedra and mar the landscape, so thankfully you can stop that incentive... just the amulet in your inventory begging you to get on with it. Not that I mind it, but every character to their own, I find so far.

What triggers the Oblivion invasion is asking Martin to go with you to Weynon Priory, so you can even deliver the amulet and clear out Kvatch and never see any more Gates, as long as you don't follow any of Jauffre's orders.

Ten random gates immediately appear after you complete the quest Find the Heir (i.e., once Martin is delivered to Weynon Priory). As you wander the countryside, there is a 25% chance that one of the gates listed below will appear. A maximum of 25 gates can be open at this point in the Main Quest.
I need to return to Weynon Priory with Martin and discuss our next move with Jauffre.
Once you get that message, there will be 10 Oblivion Gates Open.
Weynon Priory is under attack! I must find and protect Jauffre, but make sure that Martin remains safe from the enemy as well.
Once you get this message, you can have another 15 Oblivion Gates Open, for a total of 25 Open Oblivion Gates. The gates do not actually open, until you have visited that Cell. Then there is only a 25% chance that it will be an open gate. There are a total of 100 possible gates that can open. The game will only open a Maximum of 60 Gates (unless you use the console).
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:Oblivion_gates_map.jpg
Once you complete Dagon Shrine, that increases up to 50% chance of 50 Random Oblivion Gates, plus the 10 Set Gates that open, for a total of 60 Gates. Once you complete Paradise, it drops to 25% and only 20 Gates will be Open, so if you already closed 20 or more gates, no new ones will open. If you want to close all 60 gates, you need to do it before you go to Paradise.

You only have to close 3 Oblivion Gates to complete the Main Quest: Kvatch, Bruma, and the Great Gate (which also allows you to get Mysticism Master Training). Closing the Gates at the City's, to get Help for Bruma is an Optional (side) Quest. The Main Quest will end if you do not Get Help for Bruma, by Closing all of the City Gates.

When Oblivion came out, I was on Vacation, and finished all Quests (that I could find) in two weeks. This was 18-20 hours a day. I did all of the Guild Quest, the Main Quest, and most of the City Quests. I did miss most of the Remote Misc Quests and the Daedric Shrine Quests. Yes, the Wiki was here, and it did have info for Oblivion, I wanted to do it the first time fresh/clean.
If I wake up in the morning, on a weekend, and start the Main Quest, or any of the Guild Quests, I will have that Questline finished before I go to sleep.
Doing a Questline is actually very quick. What takes time, and makes the game take as long as it does to complete (near) 100%, is all of the Dungeon Diving to find better Gear & Increasing (grinding) Levels, wandering the wilderness to search out ingredients to make Triple Damage Potions, trying to find all of the Locations, Searching out all of the Misc/Daedric/City Quests, Closing up to 60 Oblivion Gates, ect...

I found it, and it is not legit (if this is the one you mean):

I just did the Knights of the Nine in 1 hour and 47 minutes.
I will do the Main Quest tomorrow and see how long it takes. I have already done Arena, MG, & FG, and am Level 37. I may do my next character straight from the prisions to the end of the Main Quest. I don't like to interrupt a character I am playing, so will have to wait until I finish this one up.

Mkay. And by the way, I'm more interested in how long game-time it takes, moreso than real life time. Which means I encourage people to take advantage of ways to take less game time to get around, and you may have to avoid things that take a fair amount of game time, such as training or resting.

I´m probably in the 100´s at completion my self,I do the main quest very late after everything else.
on the other hand when those gates gets open I like to get them closed in a reasonable amount of time,so I do finish rather quick after that.
Could be fun to hear more about fast completions, legit ones.
like in morrowind you could take a few shortcuts but that was built into the main game anyway, sort of.

I'm the sort of gamer who spends 5 hours in the tutorial stage, looking at everything. I like to get the maximum value from my games.

I think the main quest is great. It's certainly better than the Morrowind main quest which I found very dull.

I have literally only completed the MQ once, because unless I have a Mage character or a character who's in the middle of Kot9 (has the sword of the crusader as a quest item) I always fail at the lake Arrius caverns quest (path of dawn I think).

Everytime I try to complete the MQ I get bored with the quest where I need to retrieve the four books, so I end up doing other quests. I only completed it with one char.

In other words what you're saying is that you find playing "errand boy" to the hero of the story much more enriching, fulfilling and intriguing than playing the actual hero?

Less game war talk, they end badly and are off-topic. People are allowed there opinion on what game they prefer.
