The Way of the Voice

The lore tells of an ancient nordic magic practice based on the power of the wind, Voice of Kynareth. The users of the Voice, called Tongues, would be able to use their own voice to shatter physical materials and triumph in battle.

How cool would that be to be able to use that power ? To use a terrifying battle cry to shatter an enemy's weapons and armor ?

I've got a hunch that the Tongues might well figure in Skyrim. Moreover, there is an Imperial School of the Voice in Markarth Side, one of the province's important cities.

What do you think ?

Damn, you've done your research. :D Don't suppose you could post a few links from UESP to assist your argument? I'd like to learn of this myself.

And as for the power itself, it's probable. I mean this game is taking place in the Nordic homeland, after all.

If Akavir invades, then I see the pc having to recruit the tongues to fight against the invaders. Also, if the pc isn't the dragonborn (I sincerely hope he is though) I could see the dragonborn learning it. I don't think the pc will be able to use it though because of a number of reasons. First of all, mastery of it supposedly allows the user to destroy city walls and had to be careful when they spoke because they could cause destruction even when they weren't trying to. I don't think Bethesda wants us to go around destroying buildings with a 'spell.' Also, how could the voiceless pc use the power of the voice? How would they create that? I mean, it would require the pc speaking and it actually being heard :P

I don't think pc would be able to use, but enemies could have this power as something like a speel who does some Health damage and also disintegrates x pts of armor and weapons, because, certainly, we wouldn't be able to destroy building or smth like that because it would do nothing more than destroy the game and lore...

Not really. It could just be a shout, then they'd only need to record one for each gender per race.

Have a listen to the Skyrim theme - could we be getting a hint with the shouted 'YAH!' at the end of a few lines? Or maybe I'm just speculating way too much.

I actually think it's a pretty good speculation, Ethelred :P Basically, the powers linked with the magic of the Wind could become an entirely new school of magic.

Maybe there would finally be a magic skill with a bonus for the Nords ? :)

I always thought that seemed silly and thought of it as simply legend and nothing else. I mean, wouldn't it just be ridiculous if Nords ran around yelling at each other whenever they needed to kill someone? Now, I'm aware only a few Nords mastered the ability but still... I hope they consider at as a sort of magic if the PC ever gets to use it.

Well, seems I was right :P the Voice (Thu'um) will be used by the Dragonborn (player character) as "Dragon Shouts", incredible powers from the Dragons themselves.

Does it say that in the GI article?

Oh yes it does :P There will be over 20 dragon shouts, one that can send ur enemy flying afar, one that can help you getting a stealthy approach, and even one that can turn a dragon as your ally.

Good I was really hoping this would make an appearance.

Pretty nice! Something that the player gets to do that can't be copied by any ol' half-bit mage in the game. ;)

They are probably a part of the main quest. A skill you gain from going to see the Greybeards on High Hrothgar.

I'm probably jumping the gun, but I assume that they wont be a part of any school of magic. Maybe added on kind of like the powers you get from the birthsigns.
I really don't want to have to use it... but for some reason I feel like you will need to use it to beat Alduin.

But I hope I'm wrong...
