I don't know about you guys but I would love to see climbing put into the game, so when going up mountains you really have to scramble ect not just walk.
What do you guys think?

"One does not simply walk up Mount Doom."
Yes, cause when you run up a really steep hill it looks silly.

But where would they put the climbing animation?
A really steep mountain side could set off the climbing animation, making the character grab at air and still hold on.

Maybe they'll put in special climbing walls that you have to activate to climb?

I don't know just when your chracator comes to a steep hill/mountain he has a 1st person animation kinda like in MW2 climbing the ice, but obviosly with out ice picks, I just think it would really help draw you into the game.

"Climbing mode activated"
I don't think it'd be too hard, it's just moving up, maybe make it look a bit more real and show your hands reaching up.

You read my mind with this thread LOL. I was gonna post this, because I feel they absolutely SHOULD include a simple climbing mechanic for steep or jagged geography. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, like scaling hundred foot buildings in AC, just a basic jump and grab/ shimmy/ hoist function. Risen did it, and quite well at that. There's no reason they can't in Skyrim.

Todd Howard did make a point of the fact that animation quality was one of the major improvements they made to ESV, so it's probably not too hard to assume that they have in fact implemented this to some degree

id like that, you could also use this to make more expansive and unique dungeons with multiple levels, ladders, ropes. maybe even being able to carry rope and use it to get to areas not otherwise reachable.

Maybe whenever it gets steeper than 45 degrees, your character lies down, hands in front of him/her, and sort of crawls. You can use your weapons as picks, or maybe you'll have to buy them. It'd be cool since climbing with pckaxes is a central part in climbing glaciers you know? The first thing that comes to mind when I think of exploring a glacier is a pickaxe.

Really? First thing that comes to my mind is "Crevasse" coupled with the word "Death"

Bear Grylls laughs at crevasses, with a mouth full of deer eyeball.
If this is implemented it would be cool to see Khajiits having a climbing advantage, seeing as they are cat-like with claws and all. We've all seen cats scale trees in seconds.

Haha yeah, they're so full of protein
Good point, it's cool if they would have SOME advantage.

Dude Argonians are the lizards, Khajiit's are the cats.
Although come to think of it lizards are pretty good at climbing aswell

I swear, if my post does a runner again i'm going to get ticked off. sick of them dissapearing after i post them
Any kind of vertical ascension suits me, so long as i can see the hands reaching up and my feet pushing. I'll be chilled with it.
Come to think of it. Why are the Feet never shown in FP modes within Bethesda games? Its always bugged me...

Now this is a thing I've suggested myself somewhere along the road. Climbing should be made a skill, and it should also include the use of a pick, like real life climbers. Morrowind was horrible, you couldn't get up a hill; Oblivion was almost the opposite, you could run and run without loosing any fatigue - realism would be nice.

Hmm, maybe, But thing is it's like the levitate issue, if they brought this in you could climb up and over city walls. It may not be so bad if they were open cities, but it would certainly bring issues with places your not supposed to go.

Here's what I see: climbing is a skill that can only be used on certain surfaces. Smooth surfaces need to be ascended with a pick, but the pick can only work on certain materials, so climbing city walls won't work, but glaciers can be ascended. Rough surfaces like some mountains and glaciers will have can be ascended without a pick, although it is slower and uses more fatigue than climbing with a pick. Parkour should be used slightly. If you jump up to a ledge, you can grab it and get up. You can ninja jump with high enough acrobatics skill, although it will use an extreme amount of fatigue. jumping from pole to pole uses less fatigue but needs better acrobatics skill. acro and picks combined make it possible to ninja jump down safely if a galcier or mountain has walls close enough.

This could actually work... if they somehow put a cap on the amount of time you can levitate. Gosh, we don't ask for much do we? lolol

Meh, it worked perfectly in Morrowind didn't it? Just make the animation better and it'd be really cool. But you shouldn't be able to levitate that high however, that way they can still make boundaries like mountains. We'll just have to find an explanation as to why there was no levitation in Oblivion... maybe it was lost to the public but reintroduced by the Telvanni who are expanding into Skyrim.
