Anybody else actually disappointed?

This may be just me alone, but is anybody else actually disappointed that the chosen setting for Elder Scrolls V is Skyrim? I personally would have much preferred somewhere that has a bit more intrigue. I'm no loremaster, but I don't know of much lore that comes out of Skyrim other than barbarians and other such topics.

In my opinion, I would have preferred the Summerset Isles, but I guess I can't really make that judgment until the game actually gets here.

So is anybody else disappointed at this point in time with the choice of setting?

EDIT: I'm not saying that I'm not excited for the game, I can't say I've ever been more excited for any game, just not exactly what I was hoping for, but I guess time will tell, I'm still gonna spend plenty of time playing the game when it comes out.

The way I see it: If Skyrim is lacking in Lore, than TES5 would be the perfect opportunity to expand on it. It gives Bethesda more room for their plot line.

I have no idea how you can say that if Elves are from Summerset and Aldermis then men are from Skyrim and Atmora both places are important cause it's were the proto-everything we know in TES came from I am super happy it's gonna be in Skyrim.

I was quite surprised it wasn't Sumerset Isles, but I can't really say I'm disappointed. A good story can happen anywhere. I'm kind of interested (and hoping) to see a lot more storyline involving the Bretons and Orcs from High Rock. I'm secretly hoping it'll take place in Skyrim AND High Rock. :|

I honestly would've picked the Black Marshes, or wherever the Argonians come from
You got it hehe Black Marsh A.K.A Argonia.

I think the location matters much less than what they do with it.

I believe that the Summerset Isles would have been an interesting place to set a game, but Skyrim is what they were planning since Oblivion was released.

Bethesda (Zenimax) trademarked Skyrim in 2008 so I was not surprised about where the setting was in the announcement trailer at the VGAs when I did some snooping and came across that.

While I was personally hoping for Summerset Isle and Valenwood (imagine the sharp contrast between the built up Summerset and the primeval forest of Valenwood), I'm pretty pleased with Skyrim as the location. I think that, given the Nordic origin of the Septim dynasty and the events of Oblivion, Skrim is a natural choice to continue the story.

Well, when Bethesda make Skyrim, they're going to have the chance to develop on the lore, and give it a much bigger story. I think they've learned from Morrowind that Lore is the way to go.

I'm not dissapointed with the decision. Aren't the Dragons and all that sort of exclusive to Skyrim? (I too am no lore-master).

I'm pleased. And I'll tell you why. With Morrowind, there was a very dark mystic feel to the game. It was grimy and primordial. All the elves and assassin guilds and such.

On the other hand, Oblivion had a sense of nobility to it. Very upper caste center if the universe if you will.
I think in choosing Skyrim, they are going to hit a very raw and gritty tone. I forsee a very in your face raunchy tale in front of us. I'm all about something new every time.

I liked the Morrowind mystique though. I always found it far more immersing than the angle oblivion used. And funly enough, i haven't even modded morrowind before (console user up to this point) so i'm equally excited by the prospect of that and Skyrim since it'll likely be 'in your face'.

I reckon when (if) they do Blackmash, they should go for the same feel as Morrowind. After all, a dank dark marshlands would suit that feel if it was projected properly.

Oh believe me good sir, I'm with you all the way on the Morrowind point. Morrowind is still my favorite. Theres something so emersive and curious about that setting. I loved it.

I would be happy with skyrim because all of the viking related fun they can have with the lore.
Plus im sure there must be areas where it isnt just snow. But if this game was set on a small volcanic island whose sole inhabitats consisted of a monkey who liked cheese and a towel then i would still buy it because its god darn elder scrolls!

Precisely. The beast races are the most interesting races in the game, but they're stuck in the low-light. Elsweyr or Black Marsh would be sweet settings. That's not to say Skyrim isn't going to be the greatest game ever conceived. Sorry Red Dead, but your time has come and gone.

To be frank I wanted more Cyrodiil, but I clearly wasn't going to get my wish. Oblivion left a lot of loose ends that I still want tied to a half-decent finale. Hopefully, Skyrim answers some questions, or even better, is a direct lead-on like the rumors say.

I was hoping for Black Marsh too, seeing as the Argonians are pretty much the most mysterious of the races. Although, it may just be they have that in the works, as they build on the existing lore. It will be interesting to see what Argonian players get there, seeing as you have the hist all around you.

Skyrim would be good place for it. Although i was also hoping for something a bit more exotic, like black marsh or elswr. But im pretty happy with Skyrim. Hopefully there won't be an endless sea of white.

:shock:No! I'm totally psyched for Skyrim! I have always been a Nord when I play Oblivion and Morrowind. When I saw the trailer (and watched it over and over again) I was estatic - I still am! Glory to the Nords!
I do see how the Summerset Isles could be a good place for a TES game - maybe not a full out game like Oblivion and Morrowind, but like the Shivering Isles. I would like to see it used in the future. But for now, I have never been happier (well at least as my gaming is concerned). :D

Dissapointed? Nah. Worried? Yep.
I've always loved the Nords, and I always thought that their culture is pretty interesting (What with the constantly-drunk populace and the constantly-sober-ultra-powerful-screaming monks (A.K.A. Thu'um) there should be an interesting contrast), and the enviroments are surely awesome. After all,
The Pocket Guide to the Empire, 3rd edition wrote: Skyrim is the northern province of Tamriel, a land of breathtaking beauty and lethal winters
However, I'm afraid that it'll become either
-Bloodmoon Mark II, as the enviroments will be pretty much the same, and will (possibly) get extremely boring, extremely fast. I want to see something that can't be described as "Huge chunks of rock with snow on them", Bethesda!
-Intransitable. I expect Skyrim to be mountainous, and I thus expect, y'know, to be able to go over the mountains, and not have to circle around them like crazy. This could be achieved in various ways, like, for instance, bringing back levitation from Morrowind, or even bringing back the Climbing skill from Daggerfall (In a less bugged and more actually plausible way, for those who don't want to ruin their roleplaying by having a dumb warrior who has access to one of the most complicated spells in existence)

I was relieved when I saw it would take place in Skyrim, because of the geographical size is enormous.. and I would hate it to be set in the Summerset Isle since I've heard that they have japanese inspired architecture and I really can't stand animé, manga and all that s**t..

No and since I'm from the icy north myself I find it quite comfortable

I was really pulling for Valenwood and Elsweyr together, as one game. However, Skyrim is probably my second choice. I just hope they Really expand the lore or I will be severely disappointed.

I'm not disappointed per se , but i personally would have preferred a more colourful province such as Elsweyer or black marsh. i get the feeling that skyrim might be dull and white looking. I'm hoping there will be at least unique environments.

No. You can't do a whole province justice with a "mere" expansion pack.

Personally, I'm not really disappointed, but I would've expected Summerset Isles considering it was first supposed to be the setting for TES III and IV, and with all the rumours Oblivion had...

Who's to say the wont take the some turn they did with Oblivion and dumb it down? Remember the transition phase from Morrowind to Oblivion? You FORGOT things. You didn't learn them. Magic was easier. Combat was easier. After going back and playing MW, I was disappointed in what Bethesda left out. I'd hate to see them do it again.
