Will temperature be a factor??

Does anyone think that Bethesda might incorporate the temperature into Skyrim since it is supossed to be so cold?

What I mean is, maybe they will have some kind of system that will require you to wear warmer clothes when it does become cold. It seems a little silly that in Oblivion when I am exploring the Jerrall Mountains north of Bruma, my wood elf is wearing just a shirt, some pants, and sandals. Hopefully they can fix this for Skyrim. Maybe if your character gets too cold your health will start depleating. Perhaps at night it gets even more cold. It would seem a lot more true to the lore of Skyrim that at times we would need to wear fur coats and such. It would add a lot more realism to the game I think. Especially for people looking to roleplay. In Oblivion I have noticed they have taken the cold temperature into consideration slighty in the fact that there are very few argonians in Bruma. I hope they do something more in Skyrim!!

That might be possible.

Fallout New Vegas incorporated an optional Hardcore mode with several features to make the games seem more realistic.

So yea its possible. :)

i think it might be fun as long as its optional like new vegas' hardcore mode.

perhaps it would be a racial thing, Redguard, Dunmer, other warm land creatures would feel it more than Nords

i think this is where items with silly enchantments like resist cold 13% can come in and start to make sense instead of being instant loot for sale

I really like this idea. I've done about four playthroughs of New Vegas now, and always go hardcore.

I'm imagining my Breton magic user bundled in furs, the bitter wind streaming across a glacier, trudging through the snow and across the ice. Damn that would be cool.

Pff, an Argonian wearing icy metal armor makes total sense in Skyrim. =p

lol :b

I hope they'll add this, but I also hope that it'll be optional. I don't want to be forced to constantly make a fireplace or use a spell or put on better clothing or etc.

Frolic-In-Meadow: "Ok guys, I'm going out on an adventure now."
Gunnar Grinder: "These fur greaves will protect you from cold better than those short-shorts."
Frolic-In-Meadow: "You're so full of bull. See how stylish they are!"
Gunnar Grinder: "Please listen to me. If you go out there without proper protection you'll DIE!"
Frolic-In-Meadow: "Bah! DIE is my middle name!"
Gunnar Grinder: "But.."
Frolic-In-Meadow: "Shut up! You're not even my real father!!"
Frolic-In-Meadow ran outside filled with rage and sorrow tearing up his heart. After a few seconds he died from the freezing cold. His adoptive father looked as he collapsed and shed his first tear in over 17 years.

Now, who can tell me the lesson of this story?

The adoptive father is a prick?

Perhaps Bethesda will design the metal armours to be fur-lined. And I'm
almost positive that the everyday clothes will be warmer looking than those
of Oblivion. And perhaps bring back Morrowind's system of armor on top of
clothes, that way you don't have to get nekkid in the middle of a blizzard
to get into your snow suit.

I said before and I'll say it again: Realism is always nice but not to the point where everything starts to become annoying.
What I'm trying to say is: Imagine yourself playing the game, you just left the tutorial and your character haves like 80HP. The first thing you notice is a random-epic-mother-you-know-what-blizzard that makes everything shivers. And with that "health going away" thing faster and faster and your character without proper gear, without health potions and your magicka going away because of the many "restore health" spells.......... That could be possible. And imagine that happening with a newborn character in the night, with everything locked and you're left outside without lockpicks and without a place to rest, like an Inn, because you're wandering in some huge mountais........

People should look at the two sides of the coin.

I can easily imagine that. What I can't imagine, however, is some Breton running around naked in the snow for hours and surviving.

Not sure about the variations in Skyrim's geography, but the province is supposed to be COLD. The nords in Bloodmoon say that Solstheim is nothing compared to Skyrim.

:? 'Die' wasn't his middle name.

If game mechanics dictated what I needed to wear in the game, my most dangerous Oblivion character wouldn't have been running around in Leather and a Cheydinhal City Watch cuirass. Stuff's thin as paper when you get past Level 20, you know.

Maybe cold temperatures can first damage your fatigue. Extreme cold can kill a person, but not by the same method as stabbing someone, and so the temperature shouldn't directly affect your Health like being attacked does. This is one of the reasons why I hate the idea of Health Points, it's probably one of the oldest aspects of games that's never improved.

I was thinking this completely. The ability to wear fur underneath your armor would be awesome.

As a potential alternative to a hardcore mode, maybe make it so that the chill only starts to affect you in certain areas, higher altitudes as an example, or if you've been wandering in the wilderness for a particularly long time? And obviously, the warmth of your armor (or the fur underneath your armor, ideally) would affect how long you can be out there before it starts to wear on you.

I've been thinking about this mechanic ever since Bethesda trademarked "Skyrim", and have come to the conclusion that it would be awesome as long as either:

a) You could turn it off
b) It would be non-lethal (Eg, you have a "Cold" meter and as it fills up you do less damage and use up more magicka and fatigue)
c) It could just be dependent on the weather, and affect actual gameplay rather than your stats, as in on a clear day the sun could be reflected on the snow, making it hard to see (But not just for the character, it would be like say an Oblivion cave, where it is dark and you can't see here the light could kinda "Blur out" enemies), in a blizzard you would have (Obviously) limited view range, and wind could make it hard to move in the direction it's blowing from, and blow arrows away.

If they implement it well, it could be extremely fun to make decisions: You're in your warm cave hide-out, and a blizzard is raging outside. However, you have to go kill some heavily-armed bandits. What will you do, equip your warm fur clothing, keeping you warm and in good combat shape, but leaving you unprotected, or will you opt for a heavy iron suit, in which it is extremely cold and you risk being taken out of combat by cold if the battle goes on too long, but can survive a few hits from the bandits?
Obviously this would mean you can't change clothes outside warm places, which is someting that always bothered me in Oblivion. (Why is my bosmer scout taking off all his clothes and putting on armor in Bruma whilst it's snowing? ) This could, however, get extremely annoying, extremely fast.

However, if they do put it in the game, it could mean it becomes too gimmicky, and that is something I alway liked about TES: they are open-world, gimmick less RPGs which you can play without worrying about your Sims Bladder metter, and I'm afraid this temperature gimmick could ruin it all.

I can imagine one quest with cold as a factor, but I don't think Bethesda would do it.
