Do you think that Bethesda should make role-playing more accessable, as in you have the opportunity to actually have a job, to actually play your role? Also, make the animations accessable from the start for PCs, no mods, like the crystal balls.
'Tis my cents of two, now give me those of you.
EDIT #1: Fixed spelling error in opportunity.

With a new graphics engine, Bethesda could certainly make the animations more accessable. All depends on them though.
And they certainly have made some sure ugly animations though.

Yeah that would be awesome! And more houses to buy maybe. There are a ton of things that they could do to make roleplaying easier.

Or harder depending on how hardcore you want to play and make the game feel.

That would be a good idea, though they'd have to reserve a key for the animation menu.
For other roleplaying ideas though, bedrolls and ultimate control over your horses would be nice. See, when I camp in the open for a night, my horse seems to wonder off back to Cheydinhal Stables. That's cool, but I'd like the opportunity to tie him up so he won't go away, it'd be a lot more role play like if I didn't have to chase my horse...

Personally I don't want a job other than looting dungeons and caves and chopping things up. I have a job in real life, it sucks, therefore I play video games. Mostly at work, but whatever.

i'm inclined to agree with Ethelred, this is a heroic adventure game, not Conan the dish washer - tho theres nothing wrong in buying a business which looks after itself, maybe only needing occasional help. for example, trouble makers in your pub might need to be banned by you or someone owing your shop money might need the personal touch - all of which could lead to good / evil role playing in how you deal with these situations.
fable allows you to chop wood and be a landlord and raise a family etc. lovely. TES Adventurers slay things and plunder dungeons for money. It actually pays more than fixing other peoples swords, too
The options you get in conversation with npcs are probably the biggest opportunities for role playing, perhaps the way people perceive you in the world could be expanded beyond your fame/infamy/personality score to include the things you say to people, for instance if youre pretty but very rude you might not be as popular as the ugly generous people out there
the other great rp opportunity would be in multiplayer, which hasn't been ruled out apparently
red dead redemption has shown how good horses can be in computer games, the days of looking for shadowmere in cheydinhall are over now it think (i hope)

Yes. More roleplaying would be cool. They should at least let the player have more opportunities when speaking to an NPC... and don't add quests to the player's journal unless the player has accepted the quest. Also, just common questions would be cool to be able to ask, just for the fun of it.

I would be cool to walk into a tavern or an inn and there is someone, maybe a npc, maybe not, playing music in the corner. Or how about a group of travellers well into there cups singing and carrying on.

Awesome. Oblivion's inns are very un-innlike in the aspect that everyone just stands around ignoring one another, perhaps taking an occasional swig from a flagon or engaging in meaningless and, more often than not, nonsensical conversation with someone else. We need tavern songs and BARFIGHTS. Sure you can fight people in inns in Oblivion, but just end up getting fined or hauled off to jail. An all-in tavern rumble can't be pinned down on one person - especially if said person has just saved your world's ass from destruction.

Ideas to improve roleplaying opportunities:
- Ability to move objects like drawers around bought houses.
- Better conversations between NPCs.
- Minigames, such as archery practice on targets. This was possible on Oblivion but you should be able to do it with an objective, like scoring points or something?
- Included animations for eating, drinking, and sleeping. For example, for sleeping it would show the character lying down on the bed and it fades to black.
- Idle animations, like if you're stood in one place unmoving with a weapon out, the character could maybe swing the weapon around a bit or inspect it.
- Ability to vault over small obstacles instead of just leap?
- Ability to become a skooma addict/dealer?

- Ability to join the town guard? Or take jobs for the town guard like killing a certain bandit? You could wear a guard uniform to do this to feel more involved?
- Pets?
- Horse customisation, beyond armour. Maybe you could change your horses name?
- More integral surroundings and NPC behaviour. Make them lean on walls, make beggars sit in alley ways. Make people in taverns stumble around drunkenly ect.

I'd be all for more roleplaying opportunities, but you have to watch out. Video games aren't, and can't, be PnP games. It's very easy for them to fall into an uncanny valley of RPing, where there's too much stuff for the players to fill in their own gaps, but not enough to let us RP how we want.

I love the idea of people singing and playing music at the inns and taverns. Little touches like that would just add so much life to a game like this. Red Dead Redemption did this well too, there was always a dude playing piano at the saloons.

I hope so I would like to have more animations like eating and npcs that do more stuff,

Population too. Bethesda should take a leaf out of the Assassins Creed. Have insane amounts of people in the streets rather than about 100 in whats supposed to be a city
even if 98% of them are static NPC (begger, settler, busker and whatnot) it would bring life to the show if you had monks walking to and fro, beggers asking for coins, those annoying as lute players that get in your face and the all important setters which just roam the city entering shops and inns leaning up against stuff and just being all round natural people. both the settlers and buskers don't need dialouge options, just have them say a random set line like the Mage Apprentices and Adepts.
now i think about it. why is there not a mod for that already. O_o
EDIT: random groups of thieves pickpocketing people from time to time would be cool too though that might be getting too Assassins Creed like.

Dunno man, too many people can be a bad thing. The less unique interaction with people there is, the less genuine feel. Bustling streets with crowds of NPC's maybe lifelike visually, but actually detracts from the experience if they're just props.
It's things like that that turn me off to many sandbox games like AC, GTA and RDR. And why I gravitate towards ES games. I'd hate to see that change.

I noticed that in new vegas, there were far more bland npc's but in some cases this helped the game.
But i think in new vegas they were going for the city, and if you had the chance to get to know EVERYONE its not as realistic. It will be nice to see the approach they go with skyrim.
But i would like a few more options with rp'ing especially a hardcore mode. And i think just more realism in the world of skyrim, the realism soon got sucked out of oblivion for me (I still enjoy it like), and i think they could prevent this in skyrim.

I was about to underline the points I agree, but it seems I don't need to. This entire post is filled with pure gold! Thisi s so true, and that about the animations for eating etc. is somethign I always thought about. Also, when mounting your horse, going to bed, sitting down etc. everything should be in first-person view. I hate it when it switches to third-person :/ Really small things, like when going to bed, you can see your arm grabbing the quilt etc would make it a lot more immersive. And one more thing that I also posted on the wishlist:
Hunting and real eco systems. All creatures can't be predators! There should be more prey (like foxes, rabbits, squirrels, birds) that you can't just chase and kill like that - they should require skill and patience, even TRAPS. And out of them, you can make your own clothes (or pelts to hang up in your hunting cabin).
The only thing I disagree about is minigames - minigames tend to make it feel more like a game, just like the conversation minigame in Oblivion. The less user interfaces, visible parameters and stuff the more immersive.
Other than that I just posted your post on the facebook page, hoping they might spot it

Apparently none of them are predators. Their
only craving is human flesh, which, to be fair, they can't have all that often. Who ever heard of a vegan mountain lion? Notice how a wolf or cougar will just sit there as a group of deer walk right beside them?
The stuff you said is great, but the icing on that pretty little cake would be if you could observe these animals hunting each other - we saw it in Red Dead Redemption, and we even saw it in King Kong: The Game, but with dinosaurs. (BTW I don't care what ANYONE says about games based on films, that game was SICK.) So we know it's not impossible.

I never thought of that, very true! It's like a conspiracy in the animal kingdom!

I don't want a bunch of nameless guys walking around the city. Even though the cities felt a little empty in Oblivion, I liked the fact that I could actually visit their houses. If they are going to fill up the cities in Skyrim, I want them to have names, dialog and houses too.

For me, elder scrolls is all about he roleplaying, so Im hoping it will be alot more immersive.
Sorta like how a heavily modded Oblivion is...
