The Dragon Born

Soooooooooooooo...
Who is the Dragon Born?
I've seen a lot of speculation that it's some lost relative of the Septims, since they often seem heavily associated with Dragons. I would be pretty surprised if this was the case though, the seemed pretty heartily destroyed as a dynasty at the end of Oblivion.
Ka'Po'Ton leader Tosh Raka, this dude managed to turn himself into a dragon? Maybe him or his child...? Unlikely.
Akatosh of the Nine Divine's avatar is a Dragon. One born of the god of time? A Time warrior..? ehh pretty skeptical =/
Some previous Nord hero? Ysmir! Nords could not look upon him without seeing a dragon! Perhaps a scion of his line? Or maybe some forgotten remnant of his underking/ash torn mind embodied in a young confused prisoner? I think there a moderate chance of Dragon born being of relation to him or some other old nord lore hero..
Someone related to the natural Dragons? There are dragons..the lore often professes to their existence. Perhaps some champion of their special blood or bond? New Lore for us to digest? I think something like this, might be the mots likely..

The Dragon Born is probably some no-namer who rises to be a great hero out of prophecy.
That is the main theme to the beginning of most of the ES games.
Probably starts out of some sort of prison cell, which is traditional in the Elder Scrolls.

Pretty sure the Imperials are the "Dragon Born." Or at least thier sign is the Dragon. Something like that.

Well the game will either have you looking for this "Dragon Born" person or you find out in the the game that you are Dragon born, destined to kill the the dragons or something

On the subject of finding out you're the Dragon Born;
If they do that I hope it's not revealed at the start or post-First quest..
Or maybe they start you looking for the Dragon Born, then mid-game you find out you are him/her.
That would suck.
Something abstract, maybe, a surprise.
But it's probably a hulking Nord in steel armour. Even if it is you.
Basically, I hope none of us can guess who (Or maybe 'what'? Doubt it) the Dragon Born is.

The Septims are said to have "Dragon Blood", but they aren't Dragon Born, and neither are the rest of the Imperial race.
The "Dragon Born" named in the trailer is most likely an actual descendant of dragons some way or another.

imo.
It'll Probably be the same concept as the Nerevarine more or less. Not something i dislike, that was one of the things i liked more about morrowind. Though it felt weird playing as a evil overlord type when your supposed to be a reincarnation of a saint.

I have a feeling you wont be killing Dragons..
(Dragons seem to usually be on the side of the empire?)
Although that also brings up a good question, who are "those that have already here".
The Akvir had traditionally invaded Tamirel more than a few times. I wouldn't be surprised if it was them who are the invaders.
Dwemer? I know it's a long shot, but they did go somewhere (or turn into Ash in Mournhold) maybe they're the ones who have returned. Probably a 1% chance.
Atmora folk/nemesis? The Nords came from a northern land called Atmora, maybe they left something or someone behind and they are returning to extract revenge?
Sload? Eh probably not..but you never know..
More Daedra? Hopefully they are a bit too tired to launch an other invasion of reality..

The dragons seem to be on the side of the attackers. Those dragons did not seem too nice and empire-friendly in the trailer. From the book Mysterious Akavir it seems definate that its an Akaviri invasion.

If you are going to end up fighting dragons or dragon it will most likely be at the end of the game like Mehrunes Dagon in Oblivion, but hopefully you will actually have a part in killing it this time. But you might not even fight dragons, look at this thread from the wiki it can give you an idea about the dragons
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dragons It says that dragons helped in wars in exchange for shelter so that gives me the impression that if you help this dragon/dragons they will help you or Skyrim or even all of Tamriel in time of need, as said before the Akivir might attack but these dragons that you help will protect Tamriel etc.

The Imperials use a dragon as their symbol because of Akatosh, who helped them to freedom by depriving their Ayleid masters the support of Daedra.
But I'd venture to say that Akatosh isn't the only representation of a dragon on Nirn.

I agree that it's probably an invasion. I'd say that it's probably the Ka Po'Tun, though. In Mysterious Akivir, it states that Tosh Raka wants to invade Tamriel. Sounds like he, or his descendant(s) might be trying to invade through Skyrim.

The Dragon is a part of Akaviri culture. The Imperials used the dragon in their banners after the first Akaviri invasion. The Blades also were brought about by this exposure. And also the Akaviri-Potentates. The Empire itself comes from Akaviri influence.

Hecks yes...
It'd be awesome no matter if it was Tsaesci or Ka Po'Tun.

My only hope is that you fight more than one dragon.
If the battles are epic enough, they could become something of a mascot for the series.

What would be epic is to fight the Tang Po emperor himself. He is the strongest of all dragons.

Actually he is just an Akiviri who transformed into a dragon, possibly just as strong as them.
As for the dragons, it's pretty clear that they are the main threat, look at the wall in the trailer, it shows quite a few dragons attacking.

I'm just hoping to god that we get to go to war with them, whether it be the akivir or just ancient dragons that have awoken from their slumber or however they come back to life. If we get to go into a real battle alongside the imperial legions army against the akivir or ancient dragons it would most likely be the most epic battle bethesda has ever created, the battle outside Bruma with Martin is probably the best elder scrolls battle yet

Well, take the dragon talk to it's appropriate thread please.
The dragon born , Dovahkiin probably has something to do with the dragon blood in all of the emperors, or it could just be some sort of title or destiny.

Well some of the Akaviri were supposed to look like snakes, maybe they took the step of their leader and turned into dragons as well?
They do say Elder Scrolls alluded to this happening, so in theory all we need to do is load up the ol' Oblivion, shake some thieves down, fence a few knick knacks and get our stealth on as we steal the Elder Scrolls.
Pull out the trusty magnifying glass and get down to business!
On a serious note I agree with others here that the setting of the hero will likely be, guy who doesn't know he destined for greatness rotting in a prison.
But the question is what is his relation to greatness?
Will it be a connection to established lore or will they create new lore that he is a part of?
Will he be a Setpim descendant, a Loknar avatar, a Ysmir reborn...?
Or something totally new? Designed and thought up just for this game?
Personally I'd prefer something that already mentioned in established cannon. There's already so much good stuff in there, why not flesh some of it out rather then making up more as we go along!

quite right
Peyrite springs to mind for one,
also perhaps dragon is just the name a Nord warlord gave himself/his tribe since of all creature a cold dwelling race of humans might face, fire breathing dragons have to be the scariest
i want it to be an ancient race of real dragons tho which have perhaps been allowed to return after the dragon fires were put out. I really like the idea of meeting a real dragon in this game, no matter what it is / where its from
is there a reward for guessing the plot correctly? lol

If there's one theory I certainly 'think' is true, is that the Dragonborn ISN'T the player. The teaser gave the Dragonborn a name, didn't it? It sounded like a Nordic name to me, meaning it's probably a Nord, and that would limit the players' possibility to create a character to either just a Nord, or to another race with a suspiciously Nordic name.
As for who he actually IS, and not who he ISN'T, I'd imagine he's the equivalent of Martin in this game. Y'Know, just a guy who orders you around and for whom you don't really care. I'd imagine, as some people where saying, that he would be either a long-lost cousin's of Tiber Septim's great great grandson or a Nordic warrior, bound by profecy to save the world, even though it's you, the player, doing the actual saving.
Of course, knowing Bethesda, I will most probably be pleasantly surprised by how they avoid these clichés. At least I hope I will.

The trailer says Dovahkiin. Which means Dragon born in "Their language" not a name
