The Bah Humbug! Thread

So we've seen- and are bound to see plenty more- threads in praise of Christmas and the Holiday spirit. But what about us Scrooges? Are we to be left out in the cold in this most magical of seasons? Not this year, I say! So here's a thread for people who don't believe the hype and wish the Holidays would just [&@%!] off and get stuck in a drain.
It could be for any reason. Maybe you hate the shopping, or the traffic? The mandatory decorating and pithy cards to people you don't care for? Maybe you think the values the modern Christmas season has come to represent are misguided? Or maybe you think the "traditional" values of Christmas were rubbish? Maybe you're Jewish? It could be that you just can't feign excitement about what is, let's be honest, really just another cold, miserable day in the arse end of December. It could be that you hate peace, love, giving, togetherness, and goodwill towards all men.
Or maybe you just hate seeing reruns of A Christmas Story.
Whatever your personal Reason for Hating the Season, feel free to vent! You can also suggest fun alternatives to the typical Holdiay traditions The Man wants you to engage in- from Festivus to "Stay At Home And Enjoy A Quiet Day Off Work By Playing Morrowind" Day.
VIDEO REMOVED AGAIN!!

I'm an absolute Christmas maven, but I HATE seeing the aforementioned reruns of A Christmas Story. I hate the movie completely, in fact. Does that count?

Haha I knew this was coming, nothing like a nice rant thread for everything that is wrong with Christmas.
Oh and I had to take the link for the video away I'm afraid, Can't allow links to inappropriate language as it's part of the rules. I hope you can understand where I'm coming from.
--------------------
All in all I quite enjoy christmas, but there are a few things that tick me off about it:
Music: I think everyone on here by now realises I hate Christmas tunes(except that pogues song). The fact that I have to listen to the same song fifty or more times a day is enough to drive a deaf man up the wall. This is why whenever I am in my house this time of year(which is a lot because it's so damn cold) I make sure I crank my music to full blast to cut out the sound of my parents listening to the God awful rubbish on the T.V. The only peace and quite I get is from going out or when it is the middle of the night.
Movies: A bit like the music really, cheesy and predictable. Every Christmas film I have watched seems to revolve around the same story of people having fights and then coming together. The only variation of this is horror films set at Christmas, and they are still low budget, un thrilling, emotional death traps.
Shopping:I'm sorry but being forced to buy presents for everyone just takes the mick, I'm, how do you say?, oh yeah, broke as anything. The unfortunate thing is if I don't buy presents I get treated like the anti-Christ himself. Since when does buying presents define the meaning of Christmas anyway?
Are people really joyful?: I have yet to see evidence that this is true except on the moment they get to unwrap there presents. Even that dies when they realise that they have, yet again, been given some deodorant or a new alarm clock that doesn't actually work. But it's the thought that counts right? wrong, you can actually see the disappointment in some peoples faces. Rather grim that. Not to mention how frustrated everyone gets trying to put Christmas together....Jeez Louize...
Apart from those things however the day can be quite enjoyable. And let's not forget the best part, the Christmas dinner. Nothing is better then a plate full of roasted bird with all the trimmings. Also seeing family makes all the negatives not really something to worry about at the end of the day.

No one has money to buy presents. Or decorations. No one in the family sees each other (we hate each other, I guess) so the only people I like having Christmas with is my fiancée and I, my older brothers if they ever do visit and my mom.

Working retail will make you hate Christmas if you don't already. I stopped getting excited about it when I was a kid. I hated going back to school after Christmas vacation wearing the same clothes I had before Christmas vacation and being made fun of for not getting new clothes and not having an new Discman or Game Boy to sneak in the back of class and get in trouble for having it.

It is the False Spirit that bothers me. The Christmas Spirit... is not what you drink... hey Santa, pass us that bottle will ya.
Old Christmas shows & songs used to have a message, a meaning. Now, it is just someone trying to make a sale, by having a Holiday Special/Song/Album/DVD.
Imagine if you will, walking down the street. You see a Parent and a Child. The parent is zig zagging, in and out of the crowds, holding the kids hand, dragging them along. The parent is frustrated, maybe even a bit angry... why? Becuase the child is staring, in awe, amazement, even joy at the spectacle around them. Taking in the lights, the decorations, the wonders of it all...
How can you see a kid, who actually gets it, and not feel it to?
Imagine if you will (yes again), a similar situation, but it is a Grandparent and a Child. It plays out a bit differently this time. Both the Grandparent and the Child are getting it.
It is there, you just have to know where to look for it.
When I was growing up, one of the big holiday things, was Thanksgiving. Not just for the getting togeather with all of the Cousins, and playing some football. It was the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Which in itself was amazing, but that very last float, was Santa. It marked the beginining of the Christmas Season. Today, as soon as the Holloween decorations were down, you get the first Christmas Ads... It sort of ruins Thanksgiving. By the time December is here, I'm about thru with Christmasyness.
Then there is the Evilest of Days of the Year... Black Friday. We've all seen the News Clips, and YouTube vids of the fights... on the first day of the Christmas Season?

Hm..I think its possible that those of you who "hate" Christmas do so because you are surounded by other people who hate Christmas, perhaps?
Families (or individuals) that really get into Christmas, looking for a good time truely enjoy it (not fakely enjoy it).
May all you Christmas haters find some joy this season!!

lol.....

Christmas, cold days, paths with a thick layer of ice over them, on the good side it's an excuse to have a party and alcohol but thats about it, it's just not the same as when I was a child.
A review of Christmas, from the veiw of an official British Scrooge.
Decorations - Depends
Christmas movies -

(Except Scrooge, and sometimes Wizard of Oz gets shown)
Weather -
Presents -
Music -
Christmas Spirit - It depends on if it's real, I think it's nice to see family members at christmas that you wouldn't normally see.
The Snow -

When some little *Censored* little *Censored* Snowballs your house or the car your in. Lets just say it's understandable the a guy in Holland shot a kid for doing it.
All in all, and I quote: 'Any man who goes around saying merry christmas to every passing man should be killed and have a stake of holly driven through his heart.' Just less extreme.

The only peace and quite I get is from going out or when it is the middle of the night. Watch the BBC Christmas folk concert from last year - it's all on Youtube. That'll cheer you up a bit.
Movies: A bit like the music really, cheesy and predictable. Every Christmas film I have watched seems to revolve around the same story of people having fights and then coming together. The only variation of this is horror films set at Christmas, and they are still low budget, un thrilling, emotional death traps. But the Christmas specials of the likes of Doctor Who, Outnumbered and Top Gear always make up for it.
I draw you to Snooper's Paradise in Brighton, where I managed to do most of my Christmas shopping and have enough change out of a 20 for a pint of Sussex Best at the end of the day.
Are people really joyful?: I have yet to see evidence that this is true except on the moment they get to unwrap there presents. I think I have addressed all the points in a constructive manner.

Okay that is one... but you still get my point. The majority are rubbish and even Die Hard gets a bit of a drag after continuous watching abuse.
@R:
1. I'll listen to the Folk thing, I do like a lil folk.
2. Christmas specials aren't really movies now are they? no. There programs, and I never said T.V was made from the hands of Satan.
3. Brighton is a two hour drive for me...it would cost enough getting there and back. I guess I can use that information when I finally move out of where I live...it's rather Brighton or London, I am not going up North. No way.
4.Yes they are, yes they are.

I wrote a story in high school called Waste Christmas. It was about a father taking things out to the curb after the holiday and lamenting how ridiculous the entire season is. I wish I could find a copy of that, but it's seemingly not on my computer.

I genuinely cannot understand why people would live in London out of choice.

I think you already know by now R that I detest London, seeming my family moved away from Brixton and all... but that and Brighton are really the only two places to go that aren't silly little villages or overcrowded chav centrals. Do you really think I want to go to Birmingham or Newcastle? No thanks, and cheerio.
Sure Brighton has it's scummers but all in all it was rather enjoyable when I was down there. And I was working at that time so I didn't get to visit much.

Very true. This is why I dislike the holidays: too much excitement over very crazy and generally very unlikeable things to begin with. A whole day devoted to waking up early to spend money you may or may not even have in the first place followed by a holiday that insists you spend weeks going crazy purchasing gifts you may or may not need? No, thank you.
Bah humbug, indeed.
