Hip-Hop

Of course everyone has an eclectic music pallet, but narrowing down to a specific genre is always fun. I myself am a music LIFER (big hello to HatOfMadness). I enjoy specific outlets of hip hop music, not all of it, but I have my arsenal. I wanted to create this topic just to stir up conversation for the ones who have a deep interest in the culture, the music, or even just an interest in a specific artist. The radio gives this culture and lifestyle a horrible reputation, but there is much more to be appreciated.

For the ones who are interested, put up some lyrics, videos, images, favorite songs...ANYTHING. Whatever lights your candle. :)

Jay-Z and Eminem (As much as I hate admitting that, he's good) and some Wu-Tang Clan (Specifically Raekwon, who's the best of the them imo) some Snoopy, some Lil' Jon, some of The Game, various others. I prefer classic tunes to the newer ones though.

Public Enemy. 'Nuff said.

I also like a bit of the Pop-oriented stuff like Jay-Z and Kanye West, but I don't really listen to it, just don't mind it. I really like Trip Hop like Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead and Mos Def, but that probably isn't the kind of stuff you guys listen to.

Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, to name a few are forever mainstays in my music vocab.

But hip hop is aloot more then just the music. Like ghost said, a culture of wow, if you ask me.

Pretty much everything by Jay Electronica is amazing. Shiny Suite Theory is his new record w/ Jay-Z, worth a listen.

If you said Gangsta rap was like the Heavy Metal of Hip Hop, Trip hop would be the Stoner Rock. It's a lot slower, but still has that defining beat, and mostly has female vocalists. It's quite a niche music style.

Speaking of that "stoner rap", I am a big fan of Curren$y, Smoke DZA, Wiz Khalifa. Thats some relaxing, creative, almost cult following music to kick back to!

Ah yes, particularly why I like Eminem, I understand his message that he sends about his struggles, real struggles.

HIip hop is alot like the movies.

It sells alot in america because of the "violence, drugs, abusive slurs toward women", just like a movie does.

Your post proved the unfortunate iggnorance of the genre.

Yes btw, veck, maybe we could have Paprika Pringles, and listin to some trip hop 8)

ninja'd again, speaking on eminem,

Recently in the offtopic thread, I explained how im VERY impressed with eminem.
Your right, he used to be all about stickin the finger to anyone and being very immature and all that.
Whats great about eminem, is that if you've followed his career, he has really really matured and grown as an artist.
You saw him change right before our eyes.
So while I understand how eminem's name can be shot out there, he's also proved over time that people, grow up.

Please Note: I have cleaned this damn thread. No one is to be offensive about others music in this thread from now on. It is not needed at all.

I like the same sort of stuff Veck listed really. I also like a lil Snoop-Dog, some of you will realise why. :P

I'm just basing my posts off what you guys tell me. You say something is made for stoners? I assume you would be one. You don't buy a Ferrari because you want a leisurely cruise. I meant no offense to anyone.

I think certain aspects of Dubstep are hip hop. Now a days is pretty evident. Rihannas and Snoop have done some dubstep-type collabs.

La Roux - IN FOR THE KILL!

Now thats a decent dubstep record!

Lets see, ive never really explained this out, this could be good:

My life changed when i heard hip hop in 6th grade because....
Admittingly, until that point, i was kinda sheltered. I listined to oldies that my parents played, along with the pop scene. Backstreet and all that.

Then I heard a few rap songs, and till that point, i didnt really understand that there was more music out there then I had ever heard. And yes, when i heard it, i thought it was awesome.
Of course i laugh now, becuase being 10-11 years old, i had no idea of what they were talking about. But it made my head bob and i liked it. Also, not long after that, I got inspired enough at that age, to start writing rhymes myself.

11-12 years later, here i am trying to be an inspiring music artist. Crazy how it can start ^_^

Je adore le Dubstep.

Dubstep isn't so much Hip-Hop origin, it's actually a spin off of Dub music like King Tubby etc. however many artists today tend to get there songs remixed, Hip-hop included. The outcome can be devastatingly brilliant.

no. Totally different genre. Though I have collaborated with my friends to make dubstep-hiphop.
