Pokémon RP discussion

I'm creating this thread mostly so we can use the thread in Multimedia to discuss the games and anime again. Here's what we've/I've decided:
  • It will take place in Kanto and Johto, although your character can have a team from, and they can even be from, any region except for Isshu, but those games haven't been released outside of Japan yet.
  • Your character will be a somewhat experienced trainer with three Pokémon. They can be any ones you want, as long as they're not legendary* and their base stat totals don't add up to more than 1500. You can look up the stat totals for your team here.
  • The plot will involve Giovanni's Team Rocket trying to take over the world.
  • It will feature standard RP combat.
  • Your Pokémon will have a fixed moveset (only Gen I-IV moves, please) to begin with, but you can teach it different moves with tutors, TMs/HMs, and leveling up.
Spoiler:
You can't use these Pokémon:
Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres
Mew and Mewtwo
Raikou, Entei, and Suicune
Lugia and Ho-Oh
Celebi
Regirock, Regice, and Registeel
Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza
Latios and Latias
Jirachi
Deoxys
Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf
Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina
Cresselia and Darkrai
Manaphy and Phione
Heatran
Regigigas
Shaymin
Arceus

I'm up for a standard RP combat system. I do enough maths at school.

Also would you consider Armaldo or Metagross legendary for obvious reasons?

Neither of them are considered legendary. You can have both of them on your team if you wanted, but then you'd need a third Pokémon with less than 405 as its BST*.

I'll put a full list of what you can't have in the main post.
Spoiler:
* Base Stat Total

ive never done a roleplay, but i Want to learn so i can do this one. im sure its easy and just fun, but ill have to read the "ms. tears rules"

With that said, obviously i want to join, i could do a trainer with 3 pokemon......just so i can admit it, im really only familar with generation 1 pokemon, and i dont know what the difference is between your battle choices.

Okay thanks for that. I've decided my team already. It adds up to 1500 exactly. I'm lookin' forward to battling Team Rocket.

You can't use legendary birds, but you can use evolved Pokémon. Also, I posted a link in the main post to a page on Bulbapedia where you can look up your Pokémon's BSTs.

so i take the total stat and add it up till i have 3 pokemon with a total of 1500?

Mewtwo is not allowed either. The spoiler in the main post has a full list of legendaries, none of which you can use.

And they don't have to add up to exactly 1500. If your team's total is under 1500, then you're fine. But other than that, you have everything correct.

Bulbasaur, Dragonite, and Haunter..
Dragonite is technically Legendary. As pseudo-legendary according to Bulbapedia.

It's pseudo-legendary, not an actual legendary. All the pseudo-legendaries are allowed. This includes Dragonite, Tyranitar, Salamence, Metagross, and Garchomp.

I'm going for Manetric, Umbreon and Slowking, which adds up to 1490 points.

Okay, so we've established everyone's teams. (Mine will be Swampert, Breloom, and Xatu.) I'd really like to discuss other aspects of the roleplay, though, like going into more detail about the story, deciding on a combat system, etc.

combat is usually a turn by turn setup, so that would make it post by post. would that work?

Leveling seems interesting too. Opponent beaten along with opponent level have to be takin into effect.

For each level there probably should be a max and minuim exp point amount.

The turn-by-turn, post-by-post thing is something I had already determined, and that will work.

XP and leveling up, though, can't be too fancy, or everyone will be driven away. I was thinking something simple: every time you defeat a Pokémon, their level plus a small bonus (5-20%) depending on the species is added as XP. Whenever your Pokémon gets 5 times its current level in XP, it levels up.

My team-Salamence, Alakazam, and Seadra.
What about starting levels and moves?

That adds up to 1630. Being a mod doesn't get you any special privileges here.

Also, for the moveset, just pick any four moves it can learn in generation IV. It doesn't matter how it learns the moves, just that it can learn them on D/P/Pt or HG/SS.
