Minecraft (!)

I don't often by much things, but when I do, you better bet that I have some fanatical aspiration towards them. (See Fallout 3 [x3]; Fallout New Vegas [Collector's Edition]) So, since I've put money down on this, I'm pretty happy about it.
It all started
August 8th, 2010 when Bethesda posted their average "What We're Playing" blog post. The mentioned Minecraft and it looked interesting. I played the free version for hours.
I went an pirated the priced version and quickly stopped. I just couldn't get into it, I didn't understand. (You can bet that I didn't look up some tutorials and whatnot.)
I started it up two days ago with a tutorial and I played nearly non-stop that day. (And the next) I ended up buying the thing.
It's easy to get lost in the game for hours, and the premise is difficult to define.
It's a sandbox in nearly every definition. You mine materials and resources, and craft them. (In the priced version.) Something about it people just like. See this
computer and
the Starship Enterprise.
Discuss.

I've seen this game mentioned somewhere, but didn't bother to check it out. I just tried the free single-player version, and I regret not trying it sooner! This is awesome! The first thing I did was dig a really deep hole in the ground, and found a lot of tunnels and stuff. I ran around underground for a while, then I started making a stair up to the surface, and now I'm on a big hill and I just started building a house!
But wait. You can only gather resources and craft things in the version you have to buy? Awww...

That was my first thought, but it really does work. It makes building things give more feeling of accomplishment.

Hehe, when I was finished with the house, (huge wide-screen TV, a pretty uncomfortable sofa and a bookshelf) I made a balcony and then I ventured underground and created a little maze with a hidden room full of TNT. I also created another cave even deeper down below my house, where I hid lots of gold behind some boxes with TNT (to scare away treasure hunters).
Edit: I took a bunch of pics of the house and stuff. You want my to post them?

Feel free to. Maybe I'll post pics of what I've done once night ends. (Yes, Alpha has day/night cycles.)

Minecraft generated a snowy map, which is what is sounds like. It snows, and snow is all over exposed terrain.

- This is a general overview of the area I did stuff in the most. There's quite a large mine in that mountain to the left.
- http://www.dissidents.netai.net/slave/mc3.png
- Bottom of a deep mine shaft mainly used for coal, iron, diamonds, and the rock. Since I don't have an infinite amount, there's tons of rooms that are empty where I mined rock out of.
- A view of my mountain. There was a floating island created off of the summit of the mountain, so I made bridge to it. There's so much fire because lighting is an important thing in Alpha. The big flames you've seen will never die out do to somewhat of an exploit. You take a log and light in fire with iron and flint, and most of the time it won't die out. (That isn't without saying that it won't set nearby wood alight, though. See this video.)

Your links are broken. Or at least, I can't see the pictures.

Sorry, guys. I won't be able to post any pics of my huge tree. I was going to show my brother some stuff, and I started digging until I got down to the lave. I walked around a bit but realized there were no way up, so I gave up. So now the house and everything is gone too.

You could've jumped up, and kept on throwing down stone at the height of your jump.

I tried that. But when you're in lava you can't jump high enough.

Keep on jumping. Or maybe destroy some block around the surface of the lava and try to get on to the new lava shore line.

It's too late. I ran around for a while, but then I decided to give up, so I've already exited it.

There's a respawn button?!
You make me feel stupid! Stop that.
Seriously, though, that's good to know if something like that happens again.

If you're on the free version, I'm sure there's a button to respawn?

Yep, there is. I didn't know about it before you told me, though.
You just have to press 'R'.

Damn, in order to create anything that looks half decent, you have to make it outrageously big... else, I'm doing something wrong.
Also, interior design is so hard!

Yep, I guess that's the downside with those big blocks.
My interior wasn't really super, but I like my wide-screen TV. A shame it's gone now.
