Welcome to the uesp forums! :D
Glad to have a new member :)

Anyway its actually pretty easy getting some armor and weapons at the beginning of the game.
Tho it depends what kind of armor ur looking for! For some simple light armor u can go to a ruin vilverin which you can immidiatly see when coming out of the sewers! U will see bandits guarding it who have some fur armor, in the ruins there are of course more enemys.
Tho i gotta say, in my opinion u should jut go into the wolrd of oblivion and find out yourself whats otu there :)
But if you dont want to...
Spoiler:
If you join the Fighters guild u can freely pick up anything they have in the guild houses. Which means some iron weapons iron armor and even some steel armor parts! If you join the mages guild (u can join both of course) u wont find armor there, but incredients used for alchemy!
Where to start? You could simply follow the main quest, but i suggest doing a few dungeons (e.g. vilverin),talking to people, do a few quest, maybe join a faction etc. first so you'll get to know the massive world of oblivion :D

another option is to continue the main quest for one more step. When you deliver the amulet, jaufree unlocks a nice chest for you, it contains some armor/weapons along with some potions and other useful items for a beginner. You could also take on umbra for her sweet sword and armor, but at level 1, you're in for a fight...

Hiiii GimmiYogo!! :)
as Andere said you can find and make friends Here

as already said, i envy you for you are having your first oblivion experience :x
lol buts its ok, probably one of the greatest moments in my life.

regarding your question, the great thing about oblivion is that you can do WHATever you choose. its a completely open world.
you could either start on some quests, or you can start exploring to world for that armor you want.
since you start at lvl 1, armor can be pretty weak, but as you progress in level, new armor types will be come available.

if you could be a bit specific on what your trying to accomplish in game, you can definitly find some help with it here.
i know its a HUGE game wiht a ton to learn, but i hope you enjoy :D
