Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse... Alone.

All across Cyrodiil the dead have started rising from the graves, and I'll be damned if I'll go down easy.

I've worked out the various skills I'll need to survive the shambling masses around me, at least I think I have (NOTE: I'm not trying to level efficiently at all)

Class: Survivor
Skills:
Alchemy (Restore Health, Poisons, Restore Magicka etc.)
Armorer (There won't be any blacksmiths to fix my gear, I'll have to use whatever I can to scrape by)
Security (I'm going to need places to hide, and I may have to break into them)
Marksman (Arrows might be hard to come by, but getting close to zombies would be a death wish)
Light Armor (Trying to run away from hordes of the seething dead in heavy armor would be foolishness, but going unarmored would be folly)
Conjuration (To turn the Undead horde and distract them so I can escape)
Sneak (To attempt to avoid them when there's too many, potions will help here)

What about you? What skills would you want in an Oblivion-Zombie-Apocolypse?

Also; Join me won't you?

That's actually really cool looking. Maybe I'll give it a shot if I can ever tear myself away from LOTRO....

As far as skill sets, I'd probably stick with what you've listed, for the reasons you gave, but I might swap Marksman out in favor of Destruction.

I've got that mod! Haven't played it in a while but I might pick it up again.
That looks like a good solid class. Starting from level 1 sounds hard though  When I first played I used an existing character but I felt like it lacked purpose and got bored for some reason. I would love to try it again but with a proper challenge this time so by all means I will join you, metaphorically speaking :P

Extremely challenging at level 1, swapped Athletics for Sneak going to swap Alchemy for Restoration. But I'll probably still use Alchemy a lot.

Every second outside has been a fight for my life, the rooms in inns provide safety for a time. The battles are intense and huge.

My first character got cornered and trapped, I tried the hardest mode first so I'm going to tone it down this time :D

now that i think of it, thats probably the smart choice, sneak can be raised quite easily just by using it. and the same goes with alchemy. restoration and athletics take a while to raise even while regularly using them.

We should use this thread as a Zombie Newsflash. We could give updates on how each other's apocalypses are panning out like where the zombies are, how many survivors, that sort of thing. :)

I was thinking of doing exactly that in the form of Diary Entries. ^.^

This is the kind of thing I can see developing into a really strong multiplayer experience in future ES games, but that's another thread.

In terms of Oblivion zombies, they just aren't powerful enough. What you need is to be roleplaying a commoner in, say, Cheydinhal, and then it feels more like you've been thrust unwillingly but bravely into an unwinnable but downright fun situation. If you were an ordinary citizen with little to no combat experience it would make the sudden undead rising feel more realistic as you would need to fight your way through them with whatever you can find, which is where mods that turn cutlery and tools into weapons come in handy. Then you can recruit people and either barricade yourself in a town or go cross-country, set up camp in the mountains and scavenge for food etc.

That way, it feels more like an adventure than just 'hey, no problem, I'm the champion LOL'.

Ok so zombies (see link up top) coupled with
Hunger/Thirst/Sleep Suggestion
Grow your own food?
Commoner Weapons + Update for it
Set up camp
Write down your adventures!

All of these would make for a very awesome roleplaying experience.
If anyone has anything more to add to this list by all means go ahead :D

The mod allows you to edit the strength of the zombies to keep them threatening, and even though they might be relaively weak theres a whole damn lot of them. Also even a commoner that's thrust in the situation is going to become quickly acquainted with weapons. My character has a variety of skills, and I'm think about cutting Conjuration for as you said -- Roleplaying purposes, to be a more of a normal person as opposed to a champion. I'm also not levelling efficiently or semi-efficiently to keep me weak.

But I agree - I think I'm going to add some of the mods Jakarius listed to make it even more realistic and challenging.

I'm going to start properly tomorrow. I've made a character and set him up in Leyawiin, I just need to stockpile some stuff before the horde arrives, and when it does, I'll be ready!
I'm using Deadly Clutter and I'm going to use farming equipment as a primary weapon, a bow as a secondary. I'm also running a hunger/sleep mod and I have to collect food. I already have a portable campsite so when the horde arrives I will fight through and make for the countryside. That's all my plan for now

I just tried out the mod and something seems to be wrong :?
First I made a new character, then I installed the mod and activated it. Then I cast the spelll, choose quickstart | Horde. I looked in an Inn for a paper saying something about the attacked and there was one. It sayd the were attacking bruma. So I go to bruma (not fast travel) and at the gate I see 1 dead zombie. I go inside town and for a few days I sleep/ wait/ walk around look for zombies, nothing happened :(
When I wanted to read the letter again it just sayd something like:"You quickly look over the paper searching for something interesting" SOMETHING like that.
And then I walk around town, suddenly fight music starts! Im like "finally!" and then it immediatly stops :|
So I go around to find 1 guard standing next to a dead zombie and thi message appeared: "I think that was the last of the zombies...: (again something like that)
So yea, I think the attack ended without an actuall fight :/

I think it may has something to do with OOO. Mayber the guards are too strong/zombies too weak.
Ima try it again without OOO, to see if Im right, but maybe u guys have some suggestions? :?:

I'm surprised nobody else has said it....RULE #1: CARDIO.

Along those lines...

Rule #1: Cardio -- Athletics
Rule #2: Double Tap -- Destruction, Marksman
Rule #3: Beware of Bathrooms -- Sneak
Rule #4: Wear Seat Belts -- Heavy Armor?
Rule #6: Cast Iron Skillet -- Blunt
Rule #7: Travel Light -- Light Armor, Hand to Hand
Rule #8: Get a Kickass Partner -- Conjuration
Rule #17: (Don't) Be a Hero -- Restoration, Block
Rule #18: Limber Up -- Acrobatics
Rule #22: When in doubt, know your way out -- Security
Rule #26: A Little Sun Screen Never Hurt Anyone -- Alteration
Rule #31: Check the back seat -- Mysticism
Rule #32: Enjoy the Little Things -- Alchemy
Rule #33: Swiss Army Knife -- Blade

Can't work in Mercantile or Speechcraft (understandably), nor Illusion. Guess there's no need for personality in Zombieland!

Alteration for shield? (Or is that mythicism? Haven't played the game in awhile.)

It's alteration. I would have used it there, except I put it on the sunscreen line, so I went with some kind of other bodily protection.

Ok here is the first instalment of my very own apocalypse using "The Hive" mode.
Spoiler:
Character: Gaius
Race: Imperial
Gender: Male
Birthsign: The Thief
Class: Survivor
Majors: Athletics, Blunt, Sneak, Block, Alchemy, Armourer, Marksman
Description: Basically an old guy living in Leyawiin that just knows something's going to happen. When newspaper reports start coming in of plague and death in other cities he starts to panic.

Mid Year 15: 3E433

Today has been one of fear. I woke up with a strange feeling about me, except it was about the town as well. As though a cloud has been dropped out of the heavens and muffled the land and air. I made my way to the Three Sister's to find someone to talk to and when I arrived I noticed a newspaper lying on the front desk. It mentioned breaking news from Bravil, something about mysterious deaths and a plague sweeping the city! It was - as my paranoid side feared.

As soon as I finished reading I began making preparations. First I gathered all the consumables in my house. I knew I might need them if it came to leaving Leyawiin at short notice because to be honest I didn't know what this plague involved and how widely it would spread. I then proceeded to find a weapon. The roads are already dangerous after all. The broom and sickle in my house were unsatisfactory but my friend at the Mages Guild allowed me to borrow a nice long rake. I then made a trip to the General Store to pick up a few more supplies and I was ready. I spent the night in the Five Claws so I could be near other people. I'm not sure if they were all too happy with me however considering how I didn't pay for a room and instead pitched my tent inside.

Mid Year 16: 3E433

I've decided to leave, now. Some of the people are starting to look decidedly ill and I fear for my weak immune system. Today I head for the hills!
Alas! I got lost! And ended up in Bravil of all places. It was here I saw the plague first hand. Horrific creatures of death and decay assaulted me just inside the city Gates and the guard was no where to be seen. I slayed one of the beasts with my rake but there were too many.

I ran to a house and hid there. The owner was quite handy with her warhammer and dispatched the creatures with apparent ease. I thought I could perhaps tag along with here but unfortunately she had no intention of leaving. I decided to make a run for the Fighter's Guild. The warrior's there held off the onslaught but were outnumbered and soon enough they fell. It might have been my imagination but I'm sure I saw one of the fallen warrior's STAND BACK UP! I escaped in the carnage and made it to the Mages Guild. The same story occurred here and I ran, screaming and distraught. I tried the church. It was already full of them, I tried the nearest inn. I was safe for a minute until a creature came down the stairs, groaning and grunting, arms outstretched. The other's put up a fight. I ran...

Out of the city and into the countryside I went. On a horse that it's owner "didn't need" any more. Around sunset I reached a small island just next to the Niben Coast, in sight of a gigantic arched bridge. I decided to set up camp here. Once I disposed of the local crabs (they'll make good dinner!) I settled down for the night. It is now, lit by the campfire that I write this entry. Today has been one of horrors, and death and destruction. But tomorrow will be better. I'm fairly certain I can see White Gold Tower from here. I must be nearing the Imperial City! Perhaps tomorrow I will take a chance and see if I can find help or information.

The horse should be able to keep watch...

I feel alone...
All of this is true to life from my gaming session today :)
