Poor, poor Jeelios The Argonian

I have completed another part of the Mythic Dawn quest and am not able to get Jeelios out alive from the Cultists.

The poor guy keeps on getting mobbed by 50-60 Mythic Dawn cultists when we try to escape. Trust me I have tried 3 or 5 times to get the poor guy out but to no avail...so I just let them kill him(Or maybe he did not die becuase the last time I saw them he was fighting for his life and I kept running.).
Anybody here ever able to get that poor shmuck out alive?

Well I am on a Ps3 and I do nopt think I will be getting a 100% Chameleon suit for him anytime soon any way. So I just am going to probably let him die...I do not really need the skill books he provides any-ways.

I got him out, but I had to use the console to resurrect him around 5 times so that doesn't help much I shouldn't have spoke ignore me...
I'm not here...

I've never really tried to rescue him, but does he give you skill books? Didn't know that.

it's quite tricky but this is how you can do it without risk to J man
1 enter mythic dawn dungeon
2 kill all cultists in the dungeon (this is the key element in the plan)
3 go back to altar and release prisoner
4 when J is safely away, take book
5 catch up with lizardman and run to freedom

If you get him out he gives you a hearty argonian thank you. Perhaps the wiki can provide a more detailed answer.

What I did was enter the Shrine by removing all my items, got up to the point where you are asked to kill Jeelius, grabbed the dagger and waited until Harrow (the one who has all your equipment) went to a dark corner and stabbed him. Hopefully you can get a one-hit kill with the sneak bonus. Then I grabbed all my stuff and started killing the Mythic Dawn agents. When all is safe, well, you know what to do next... just don't grab the Mysterium Xarxes until after you release Jeelius because grabbing the book causes Dagon's statue to crumble which will kill Jeelius if he is still on the slab.
And he gives you a free skill boost in alchemy, mysticism and restoration if you save him.

the problem is when he gets away from you and runs off in to the living quarters.
Since you can wipe out all enemies before having to take the book or free/kill the lizard, the best way to keep him alive is to make the lair safe before you set him loose. Even a high level character with good heal/protect other skills will find it a test to keep him alive whilst he runs through manned guard posts cos his ai is a bit suicidal

You can't wipe out all the enemies before freeing him and taking the book. The gate to the living quarters remains barred until the book is taken and the statue falls. However, what you can do is leave him lying on the slab and attempt to take the damage from the falling statue yourself. If you succeed you can leave him lying there while you clear the way out, then come back for him. It should be noted that this is very difficult to do, you will need to heal both yourself and him.

Follow the hints in the wiki
I usually get him out. The best way is, after killing all the cultists in the room, free jeelius and once he's away, grab the xarxes. Let him go on his own. Though this may seem suicidal for him, trust me, he's better off on his own. Now your job is to run behind him and kill everything you see, most agents are too slow for him, but you have to be fast. Kill any agents you see an quickly. This makes Jeelus'es job way easier. And if you see any agents that are running away from you, kill them faster. Eventually if your like me, you will kill all agents, but you lose Jeeius. Have a look see if he died, if you can't find it, use the lever and exit. If all worked well, he should be in sight, or just leaving. Talk to him. After 3 days he should be back with skill bonuses to Alchemy,Restoration and Mysticism(3 each)
go through the wiki page for the quest too, there's some stuff there

He survived for me as well, I could only clear the first areas, and he was running a bit behind me so I had a head start for clearing the living quarters. I healed him when I saw him, and took out anyone he was in trouble with. But he disappeared, only to have made his way out on his own.
If you have given away your equipment, another one to kill first is miss Camoran, she'll have a levelled staff that should help you get rid of anyone in the way.

Actually, if you understand NPC AI and the way the engine works with that, it's very easy to keep him alive:
1) Kill alll cultists, and take the Xarxes. Turn around, and as the statue crumbles, hit it with an area effect fireball (Adrienne Berene's Weak Fireball works wonders). Fire damage havocs objects that can be moved; this method pretty much blows the statue apart before it can hit Jeelius. Now you can kill alll the cultists in the living quarters before freeing him.
2) Easiest by far. Free him, take the book, and wait. That's right; use the wait command. A few hours should do. Jeelius should make it out of the shrine and start heading back to the Temple of the One. As long as you're nowhere near him, he's safe. He can't be hurt if he's in a different cell.

Wow.. nice trick!
Anyway, I never even THOUGHT of getting him out of there
I mean, could you meet him before the mission?
Cause I thought he was just a random person, who'dd dissapear forever after the quest...

That is brilliant. I shall remember that.

Stealth kill everyone (deadly poisons and elemental bows are your friend) until you reach the big room where Camoran is doing his speech. Make your preparations to unleash as much firepower on the group of enemies as you can (spam AoE spells, use poisons/elemental bows). You only have to deal with the enemies here which isn't that hard.
After you've freed Jeelios, Paralyze will become very useful. Cast it on Jeelios, for example

dang, you beat me to it Prince, i was going to say "Doesn't anyone wait anymore

" that is exactly what i did also, the first time, he somehow survived the statue, it fell around him and not on him, but as we were running out, i would wait to gain health back, then go forward, but he got in the way of an arrow and was killed, so had to due it a second time, but this time the statue killed him. so as they say, third time is a charm, got him out safely, don't recall getting anything from him.
didn't realize that the statue falls from taken the book,

i could
*edit
nope, you're right, I couldn't
you have to shield his body when the statue falls. I managed to do it by mistake/luck, it's probably a bit hit and miss to attempt otherwise. Tho if you have a big shield like spell breaker and face it upwards, it might be easier to get right
the wait method looks like the best way though

These are good suggestions, never again will I have to hold a little Jeelius funeral every time
I do the quest.

I've never had to use any tricks, I free him grab the book and run straight out. Hit the Acolytes once or twice and they will flee, don't waste time in side rooms (you can come back for the treasure later). The biggest threats are the Agents, but Jeelios tends to stand behind when he gets to an Agent, and if you're there they will priotize you. The key is to keep moving forward, try to stay ahead of him, make acolytes flee and dispose of the Agents quickly. Has worked for me everytime.

To save Jeelios first i just walk right into the shrine and slaughter anyone daring enough to stop me. I don't sneak or anything. For a ranged kill i use my bow. When up close i use restoration and blade. Usually i free him before getting the book. then i grab the book and run. For some reason i always lose him.

I don’t know why people have problems with this, not trying to seem cocky or anything. just attack and kill the mythic dawn agents in the room you find him then free him and run with him, he always lives every time for me.

Strange. I was always able to get ahead of him and as soon as I did that he would run
up to a Mythic Dawn agent, then run and cower behind me while I dispatched the fetcher.
Rinse and repeat.

His speed might be a little high for 'young' characters to keep up, though. But because he is so erratic you might just catch up with him any way.
My only problem with that shrine is getting out again, there's some 'requires a key' doors on the way out, I am sure there's a real way out but the last 2 times I unlocked them on console :[
