Anyone find Valen Dreth's beginning dialogue to be really funny? I think it's funny how he makes fun of the different races with such saracasm. "My, my, look at the high and mighty Altmer!"

It's so awesome! But it's also a bit annoying, so it feels good to kill him later on in the related quest.

what does he say if you're a dunmer?

I know right? It's especially annoying if you're a bestial race

Here's a Related Thread, started here not so long ago. Refers to someone on another forum who took Valen's scathing comments a tad, er... seriously. Makes you wonder how a guy like that treats REAL people if he can have such an OTT reaction to a harmless bunch of pixels.

Me? I just gave Valen the old British two-finger salute, safe in the knowledge that he couldn't see me do it... Instant satisfaction!

Let me invent a Proverb: ALL computer games have exactly the same end purpose... To change the colour of ALL on-screen pixels to exactly match your Windows Desktop.

He really does try too hard to get a girl. Don't think he was very happy to see my Dunmer next time she payed him a visit. Oh, and Valen is one of only two characters I've ever teabagged, the other being Lazare Milvan.

ouch...i can barely even here what he's saying but i know what he says. i like his reaction when you kill him "you reatched peice of gaur dung!"

I like the way he sucks up to you if he sees you coming in to kill him.

Killing him is fun. Just before I did I set Deadly Reflex chance to 100% and off with his head. Then some joyous t-bagging

He did as Vicente suggests prove to be a pleasurable kill, I only wish he was harder to kill so I can make up for all the times he insulted me.

I watched my sister start as a female Khajiit. His speech in the beginning resulted in her hissing at the TV... weird

Not always. They can figure out you are an escaped prisoner even when no one else can, but they lack the ability to walk up to an elf in the Imperial City and ask them where another elf lives.

The Dark Brotherhood learns of the prisoner's escape because said prisoner was "marked by the blood hand of Sithis", and the Night Mother had an eye out for them.

Thanks to the vigilance of Adamus Phillida, it is hard for the Dark Brotherhood to get up-to-the-minute info on any targets within the Imperial City: intelligence of this sort comes from human resources, not the whispers of the Night mother. You could send a mortal agent in and obtain more detailed information on the victim prior to the mission, but why waste that time and risk that ear when your handy lil' murderer can do that all for themself? Why send in a beater when your hunter has just as good a chance at finding the prey?

Perhaps Valen Dreth has earlier ties with the Brotherhood? And they want him dead for some betrayals, the other thing I can think of is:

Maybe the silent protagonist player character prayed for him to bugger off, right before the game begins and we take over. And out of mercy, the Night Mother thought, well, they don't have money, but if I have an idle murderer at some point, we'll do it.

Dreth probably peed someone off who sent out a Black Sacrament for him. When you escaped the prison, a Murderer scouting the sewers saw you running off.
