i was wondering, does anyone know what the best heavy armor is? i have a full set of daedric, although i gave up the daedric gloves for some magic ones i bought, the helmet for the mask of clavicus vile and the shield for spell breaker (defense isn't as good for spell breaker but when you factor in the reflect...). i just didn't know if there was a special chest piece, greaves, boots, etc that were really good, such as lord's mail in morrowind. any help would be much appreciated, thanks

As far as I know, Daedric armor is the very best unenchanted armor you can find. If your'e a Mages Guild member and have done the quests required to enter the Arcane University, you can enchant your Daedric armor pieces to make a really awesome set.

The enchantements from the sigil stones may be even greater than the ones you can do yourself at the mage university

yeah, the thing that sucks with the sigil stones is they are a hit and miss, some of them are close to useless. is there any other possible way to enchant things other than using sigil stones or through the mages guild? im not magically inclined at all and fear the mages guild would take me forever, and obviously getting a good number of sigil stones would take a while too. im around level 28 or so but have been doing mostly fighters guild, daedric quests and just random walking around scoping out dungeons and such.

Actually, the mages guild recommendations are fairly quick, even for a not-so magically inclined character. Not to get on my soapbox, but one thing I miss from Morrowind was having to have a certain skill level to advance. None of that here, just do a couple of quests that any character could do, and you're in. Thieves guild and dark brotherhood are the only ones that seem matched to their character class personas.

Sigil stones spawn randomely. Save the game before taking it. Then take the stone and inspect it. Reload and try again if you didn't like what you got.

Spellbreaker is a nice shield, and definitely my favorite fashion shield.
Escutcheon of Chorral (sp) is better.
It's heavier than the Ebony Shield (30!!), and may have slightly better protection as block goes up. (The Honorblade was like 1 point better than a regular Ebony Longsword when I turned it in)
I am using:
Helmet of the Mage (ebony, 14% spell absorption, +20 magicka)
Magebane Greaves (daedric, 20% spell absorption)
Escutcheon of Chorral (~ebony, 30% damage reflection, +9 endurance)
Russet Felt Shirt of Blade Turning (clothing, 11% resist normal weapons)
Ring of Namira (10% spell reflection, 12% damage reflection)
Ring of the Iron Fist (33% damage reflection, +25 hand-to-hand)
Spelldrinker Amulet (mage's advancement reward, 18% spell absorption)
Starsign Atronach... grand totals...
102% spell absorption
75% damage reflection
11% resistance to normal weapons
10% spell reflection
It's almost as bad as 100% chameleon, with the added bonus of things dying faster. If I block a minotaur Lord, I take 1-2 points of damage, and he reels.
As for what's best, it depends on your character. I like the look of Ebony better than Daedric, but I won't give up the Magebane Greaves.

Oloruin those are nice enchantments but dont you kinda look like and idoit? I mean being a super powerful dude is great but you gotta look cool too. Thats the huge thing i miss about morrowind, all the armor in Oblivion looks different in Morrowind there was different armor but some were close enough to mix up. Also im lvl 42 and im still using Ebony Armor it looks cooler to me. Sigil stones provide my enchantments.
