My favorite type of metal, hated by most de to 'I can't hear the vocals!', 'The music is too loud/fast!', etc.

So just wondering what people here thought of DM, or if anyone was into it.

Alright, may I ask: What makes it not music?

Death metal is kinda odd to me, I won't say it isn't music, it perfectly is. It's just too extreme for me. :s

It's just incredibly simple and repetitive beats and riffs, with some intermingled screaming. It's rather Paleolithic.

I agree with Kestral on this, Death Metal's a little too much for me (though I freely admit that there is nothing I want to listen to more when I'm unhappy bloody censor)

I wouldn't exactly call myself a death metal fan but it's a bit narrow-minded to dismiss an entire genre as 'not music'.

Screaming? Why does everyone always go there? Yes they do scream, but what about gutteral vocals? In bands like Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus(uses a combo of screeched vocals and death growls), Suffocation, and most other old death metal bands.

Repetitive! Simple!?

I can't agree with that, Metal music on the whole has more sub-genres than everything else put together - and I can't label any of it as simple either. Search for 'Death Metal Office Drumming' on YT (sorry it won't let me post the link), I wouldn't label that 'simple' at all!

I'm more industrial metal actually, but I am slowly getting into harder stuff - The Black Dahlia Murder are growing on me :)

On The Chasers War on Everything, Andrew Hansen played one of Cannibal Corpse's songs, in a polka'ish version.

It sounded so frigging hilariously good. Man, It was so awesome.

I love it when they do things like that! The one with Bob Dylan playing Catherine the Great!

"What should we do about the invasion, Your Majesty?"
"The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind"

Love BDM, Funeral Thirst is one of my fav. songs by them. Great melodic death metal.

I've seen the Chaser's War on Everything CC lounge music version, very funny. Although he used 'Shattered Brains, Scattered Remains' along with 'Rancid Amputation' for the song.

Not a huge fan of Metal, and not specifically not Death Metal. I do think that its music, its just music I don't enjoy.

Interesting......I find myself agreeing with you :o
I'm open to some rare screams here and there with System Of A Down but it wouldn't be my favorite genre of music.
I think the reason why people don't consider it real music and why they say it's crap is because they're scared. Scared of being outside their comfort zone, scared of trying something new. Maybe they're scared of what the music will do to them? I remember being that way. Just 3-4 years ago I labelled anything other than rap and RnB as crap, stupid and just not music. The best part is more often that not when people named a band of a different genre then I would immediately dismiss it as crap even though I hadn't ever heard the genre let alone the band. Today it embarrasses me I ever thought like that  3 years ago my iTunes consisted of mostly songs by 50 Cent, The Game and all that other stuff. Now its totally different ranging from Metallica to Led Zeppelin to Nirvana to Alice In Chains to Hans Zimmer to Johnny Cash to Queen. And I'm better for it I think. A lot more open minded not just with music but people, ways of thinking, it has literally changed my life :)
Now I consider music to be your own preference and I've learned to respect other people's music tastes rather than just dismissing an entire world of people by what they listen to.

Also: My music tastes changed around the time I got internet......I've heard that's happened to a few people. Anybody have an idea why cos I'm too lazy to figure out?

Because you're open to more points of view?
I know before I bothered doing anything other than gaming online my music was mostly influenced by, real life, friends, and they all had the same taste in music, MTV2/Kerrang metal heads.
Once I started looking at forums etc. I found lots more variety, and could pick'n'choose as I liked. :P

On death metal; I'd say I like some of it, but most of the time I don't like the screaming, but I like a lot of the heavy riff thingys. And I never got why they choose such offensive track titles..
Do they want to turn people away from their music? :P
If you've never listened to it before, and dunno what it's like, why would you want to listen to "Kill Your Mother, Rape Your Dog"?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy metal, just not death metal. I mean, I could never bring myself to listen to a group called Dying Fetus. I have a brother who was stillborn.

Dying Fetus has taken a very offensive approach to death. Although it is much stronger on their first few albums which sported gore lyrics. Recently they have become more political, the title of "Kill Your Mother, Rape Your Dog" is uhhh well I have no idea why they titled it. The song is one minutes, twenty-one seconds long(I think...)and consists of cursing out most bands today even naming a few: Spice Girls, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, and REM.

I know htey do scream, but that is leaning more toward deathcore. Most are vocals called growls, which are low and sound like mumbling to some. Many vocalist like Corpsegrinder of Cannibal Corpse use high pitched screams in songs along with brutal growls.

Also if you want offensive lyrics, look up [&@%!] [&@%!]. I hate hte band myself cause I think grindcore sucks, but the lyrics/song titles are made to offend people.

I think I know the band you're talking about. Is one of those words the worst word in the world, and does the name refer to a quite significant biological mishap?

I can't see it being a biological mishap, cause uhhhh I've never heard of anything like that before the band. I will admit one song title had my laughing, "The Living Colour is my Favorite Black Metal Band". For those not into metal much, black metal is used when referring to bands who sing about Satan, hate Christianity, and are Satanist. BM however sucks, so even if I was Satanist I could not see myself listenning to it.

Back to what I was saying. Some song ittles from them that you might recognize if you have heard of the band before: "The Internet is Gay", "Conor Clapton Committed Suicide Because His Father Sucks", "Cris Barnes Is a %#*^$", "I Became A Counselar So I Could Tell Rape Victims They Asked For It", "Easy E Got AIDS from Freddie Mercury".

I took those mostly off the "It Only Gets Worse" album. The only two that made got me mad(not offended, probably the opposite of what they wanted)is Conor Clapton becaue Eric Clapton is awesome. And Chris Barnes is a %#*^$, ebcause Chris Barnes is one of my favorite death metal singers. The story is also pretty lame of why he wrote it.

I still hate the band, cause I cannot understand the lyrics at all, and as stated before grindcore sucks. The songs are barely a minute long if less.

I'm an overall metal head.

Slayer's my all-time favorite. Seasons in the Abyss is an amazing song. It's on my freaking Converse.
Lamb of God is good. Fake Messiah and Ashes of the Wake are two of my favorites.
Arch Enemy is good. Female vocalist, but it's still amazing. Plus, the lead guitarist is epic. They have an amazing instrumental song, Hybrids of Steel.
Mastodon's another great band. They have a lot of experimental guitar, and go from a nice mellow singing to growling and such.
DevilDriver, Whitechapel, Pantera, Anthrax (Thrash metal's good, yea?), Edguy, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth (1776 = epic instrumental), Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Korpiklaani (Finnish Folk Metal FTW), Megadeth, Meshuggah, Opeth, Pelican, and Symphony X. All incredible bands. Hahaha, I listen to a lot of different kinds of metal, much less music.
