In Memorium

I realize that there has already been a thread started for the death of Billy Mays, but I have a greater purpose for this thread.

It has, in the last week, come to pass that a substantial number of icons have left existence as we know it. These deaths grievously bring an undeniable fact to the forefront of public attention: the mortality of idols. We rarely give credit to the thought of going through life with death after death berating headlines and news programs. This last week, in which four of our beloved icons passed, have called all eyes onto the knowledge of death and the inability for us, as humans, to escape it. We must come to accept the fact, for those of us that haven't, that this will be the case for as long as we are to retain mortal consciousness, but we must also be aware that our idols are not the only ones that suffer such bittersweet fate. Thousands of people die every day beyond the focus of our minds, and it is our responsibility to celebrate and grieve their lives and deaths. It is, as stated earlier, a bittersweet ordeal that we must all witness and experience many times in our lives, and it is not one that can be avoided. Therefore, let us come together to withhold a standing memorial in our hearts for all those that have struggled and suffered through hard times, enjoyed and cherished good times, and enriched and brightened our lives with their lights.

For all those who have found eternal rest, wherever you may be now: we love and remember you, and we shall for as long as we live.

Rest In Peace

I most sorely miss the musicians who still had something to GIVE to the world.
Michael Jackson was, for the most part, all fizzled out. His latest performances and recordings were not of the caliber we expect.

John Lennon died during his second prime. He was STILL recording fantastic songs (he was shot on the way back from the recording studio).

I will put up a short list of all musicians who have passed (save Michael Jackson) and who I will dearly miss.

John Lennon
George Harrison
John Entwistle (My primary musical inspiration)
Keith Moon
Brian Jones
Buddy Holly
Ritchie Valens
JP "The Big Bopper" Richardson
Maurice Gibb
John Bonham
Elvis Presley
Johnny Cash
Many, many others.

RIP

(NOTE: I purposefully did not include that over-rated windbag Jimi Hendrix.)

The passing of these men was taking something amazing away from the world. I dearly miss them. (Entwistle and Moon both gave much to the world, for quite a long time. It will be a truly sad day when Townshend and Daltrey pass as well.)

i just went to the newsagent to get some cornflakes and get away from this subject only to find they're arguing about the same exact thing on the radio. it was like a carbon copy of this forum - i thought, wow, even the radio is sad  (no offense intended).

so it struck me, we humans do like to argue a lot, and i'm by no means distancing myself from that behaviour. maybe it's our way of coping with the unknown - like trying to chip away at a pyramid with two wooden toothpicks. we think if we pick long enough this thing will whittle down, but we overestimate the power of our tools which are themselves weaker.

so death, you can't affect it, you can't avoid it, you can't experience it and live on to benefit from that experience, it is the nemesis of mind. best you can do is hold it off for a bit, if you're lucky, but quick as a camera click and you're gone in a flash. the only way i know that effectively deals with it is to enjoy life as much as you possibly can. with friends, family, kids, the day and the occasional jewels that show up. that's the only way i know how to deal with it and the more i enjoy myself, the less it seems to matter. if you only get to live once, might as well make it the best so you'll have no regrets when it's over.

so for all those passed - RIP (or boogy in heaven or whatever happens).
for those of us living - rock on! :D

next time you see the sun slowely rising above that horizon as it changes the colours so subtly and beautifully, in a way that'll never be repeated. and all this is because you're on a massive ball of molten rock with only a thin layer on the surface you can survive on. and it's turning towards the sun at the same time you're flying at an insane speed around it with all of the stars in the heavens dancing above for all infinity. and all this has to happen before you can appreciate one second of it, not small stuff here - galaxy twisting stuff. then remember, you are alive. puts it into perspective 8)

Since my message was deleted three times, it would probably be a bad idea to post it again. However, now I'm being quoted, even though my post no longer exists, so it'd make more sense for me to have the original post somewhere in this thread. Therefore:

You gave up your position as mod a while ago, and with it the right to decide which threads are allowed and which are not. There is no need to trash some else's thread like that.
Now get back on topic.

Farrah and Micheal dont really affect me but Billy Mays was a true loss. Im not kidding, on his show Pitchmen you could see what kind of a person he was. He was brash but lovable and reminded me of Steve Carrells character micheal on the office. You are annoyed by him but you love him anyway. Thats how ill remeber Billy Mays.

Thank you to all those who stayed on topic.

For all those who did not:

DO NOT POST ANYTHING IN THIS THREAD THAT DOES NOT HAVE TO DO WITH THE ORIGINAL TOPIC. I WILL HAVE THIS THREAD LOCKED SHOULD ANYONE ELSE DECIDE TO SMART OFF. THIS THREAD IS A DEDICATION TO THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED ON, AND ANYONE THAT DESECRATES IT WILL NOT ONLY HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE MODS BUT WILL ALSO HAVE TO DEAL WITH MY WRATH. I DON'T APPRECIATE WHEN OTHERS FOUL A KIND GESTURE, AND I WILL NO MORE TOLERATE IT THAN SPAM OR POST FLOODING.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Once again, this thread is for remembrance of those who have passed away, celebrity or not.
I feel I should also mention that we should try to avoid any discussion on life/death philosophy. As much as the fora appreciates free and deep thought, it does tend to hijack threads.

it really was a sad week wasnt it? I mean we lost Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, and Billy Mays.

And allow me if I may to post a little funny story here about, and I mean funny in the sense that its ironic and not truly funny and hopefully no one will take offense and if they do I sincerley apologize.

So the day that Micheal Jackson died, my family and I were in the car, and we heard that he had been taken to the hospital, it was not confirmed what had happened yet. I commented to everyone that it was certainly weird what was going on, first McMahon, Fawcett, and now Jackson is laid up. My dad said, well death always comes in threes so looks like its MJ next. Well wouldnt you know that ten minutes later we get an update on the radio, that he had died. So I apologize to all the Michael Jackson fans, myself included, but my dad killed MJ.

These are the little funny tidbits that help us get over loss, and yes it is okay to laugh in the wake of these things, just be respectful.

And if I saw billy mays on the street, I would probably have bought anything he pitched to me, just because it was him.

I have one worse, scribbane. Me and some friends on XBL were all joking about how he was in the hospital, laughing and making jokes about his death. My mom calls me on the phone to inform me he had passed away. I took one heck of a guilt trip.

What about that one Bengals football player? It kills me that I can't remember his name for the life of me.

McNair, I think. But nobody cares about those other people, they've all been overshadowed by Michael Jackson. :(

At least at this time, I cannot dispute the positive nature of the original post.

May all the aforementioned rest in peace ... and also Frank Zappa.

Sincerely,

Really? So does mine :|

I'm glad that someone found use out of this thread. After I indirectly warned Vargon for being a you-know-what and brushed Arotos for pulling the thread into the music business (though I do understand his sentiments), it seemed like everyone was either too afraid to go near it or had labeled it a lost cause. Glad I could be of service, once again.

Remembering those who were with us that now aren't until the end. (← - 2009) We love you all.

McNair played for Titans one of my favorite teams.

I will miss Billy Mays most of all.
