Keeping my Xbox 360 cool

Is this a way to keep my 360 from overheating/RROD? Or does that just not help at all?

It's a fan placed next to my 360. The picture fuzzy because I took the picture with a crappy webcam.Sanguine wrote:What is it? The picture is really fuzzy.
I think it comes out the back or the sides, or both. Anyway, I'll try that.leroybrown wrote:It might. Where does the heat exit on the xbox? Also elevate the bottom of it. Put 4 random things in the corners, you want to create a wind tunnel kinda effect.
Kid? I have a beard, everyone knows beards are like the ultimate sign of adulthood. Anyway I've elevated the 360 on this thing as you can see here. BTW this picture is way easier to see than the last one because I turned on another light and focused the camera. It hasn't overheated yet, but it has been overheating alot lately, but that's probably because It's been on all day so right now I'm giving it a break. I totally would get an industrial fan if I knew where to get one.ironmaiden83 wrote:Ooooh, you have an elite! I envy you, kid.
Anyway, get an industrial fan!
That's weird, I heard that those made it worse or didn't do anything. But, I might have to go buy one, just to see for myself.Kaelan Corvinus wrote:Microsoft does make cooling fans for the 360. You can find them at most any game store.
There's two different kinds that I know of.
-One type locks into the back of the 360 and pours air into the vent exhaust itself.
-The other fits on the bottom of the 360, if you stand it upright and blows into the bottom vent.
Some people, for maximum effect, use both.
They actually work very well and extend playtime by several hours.
Haha no thats not quite what i meant. Something like cig boxes in the corners or anything. The whole point is so that cool air can flow through the bottom of it from your fan. I dont know how far your electrical knowledge goes but you can make fans for your xbox for like $5 as opposed to whatever microsoft is gonna sell you for tripple the cost. Im sure its just cpu exhaust fans. Thats electrical 101.Valus wrote:Kid? I have a beard, everyone knows beards are like the ultimate sign of adulthood. I know where to get an industrial fan, I was just kidding. In fact I have an industrial fan somewhere in this mess. I believe that the heat is coming from the back of it.leroybrown wrote: And if you dont know where to get an industrial fan then you clearly arnt a man yet, boy. Maximus decimus meridius knows where to buy industrial fans.
Oh, and cant you turn the xbox on the side? I imagine that would be a better position for cooling. But you need to find out where the heat is exiting, itll be wherever theres an exhaust fan. And it sounds silly but feel with your hand where its feels hottest, as an experiment. Do that part first.
This might be the simplest solution since I am usually on my 360 from morning till dusk. Ok now I get what leroybrown was talking about. I was confused for a second, but i'll find 4 things to hold up the 360.Daedricmudcrab wrote:the easiest way is going to be simple things. Keep an eye on it. Don't accidently leave it on overnnight (i do that sometimes) or leave it on and go do something. It's a hassle, but it's worth it to just turn it off, then on again. If you can, every once in a while (not all the time don't worry), just walk over and feel if it's hot or anything. If it is, just save your game, turn off your xbox for maybe 10-15 minutes to give it some time to cool off.
Atta boy! I never realized overheating was a problem with the xbox. Maybe i should design a basic water cooling system like some pcs use. Hmm...Valus wrote:Ok, so I put off doing it until I needed to, and it overheated right in the middle of a Nazi Zombie game on the new map Shi No Numa, then I got really [cencored]. So, cut out 5 squares of cardboard, duct-taped them together, and put them under all four corners, and got a new box. Seen here. It hasn't overheated yet in this setup, so I think it worked.
Actually, overheating is not a problem with the newer 360s. Mine was bought over 2 years ago and has the old Falcon board, which means it overheats alot. The newer chipset, called Jasper, has apparentley fixed this problem. But I'm trying to keep this old thing alive for as long as I can. Look it up on YouTube, people have the same problem, and have fixed by doing stuff like this. So, I guess I should thank you. So...thanks.leroybrown wrote:Atta boy! And what would that be for the metrically impaired? (Farenheit)Zincroth wrote:28 C
A Blathering Idiot wrote:The 360 heats up the most on the sides (or the top and bottom if you have your Xbox laying down) so what I once used was one of those laptop coolers. They're cheap and you can put them on the hottest parts of the Xbox for maximum cooling efficiency.
