Have you noticed?

Have you noticed that people are more patient tend to play RPG games and less patient play very quick and more directive games.

I noticed this when my brother all of a sudden stopped playing RPG's and had less patience for everything as with me kept my patience and i continued to play RPG's. My mom and dad are also patient people and they kept playing RPG's that's when it hit me you need to have a clear mind to play a game like RPG's as when you play a shooter game you don't really need to think just point and shoot and usually one or two shot kills them as when playing RPG's it takes a while to kill foes.I also noticed that when my brother played and RPG after he got less patient he constantly asked for help on how to get the best items to make the game easier and quicker as well as using them effectively instead of finding out for himself.

And that my essay on patience and gaming.

This doesn't really fit here >.> but you have a somewhat of a point.

Whilst I cannot really for sure that what you say is correct, it does seem to the case.

But, I prefer a mix of RPG's and FPS's and such, so, what am I? Middle? Probably, I'm not very patient.

I am extremely impatient, love (nearly) all rpgs and hate fps games so I would say there is a definite margin of error in your theory.

I play both RPGs and FPSs. FPSs require patience, also, at least COD4 does ( or "cod quad" as my friends and I call it.) It takes a while to rank up and get camos for your guns, that is if you're not an idiot and just cagematch for them.

Well i talking about gameplay not how you are rewarded by the gameplay.

I play very fast the first time around, rushing to find out what happens. But I can play more slowly as well, the second time I play a game. Even then, however, I have this constant list of "things to do", I'm never just relaxing.

lol

I'm not sure if i'm patient, but i am thorough if i like something enough. There are so many more things to do in the rpg style game, it pays to have some patience

I like Morrowind but I'm very impatient.

I'm in the middle. I can be patient, but if they're taking too long, i just either do it for them, or just tell them to hurry up.

Patience?
Bah!
Run and Gun for me!

Well...
I like both RPGs, and FPSs.
I even prefer Run and Gun (the kind where face-shotgunning or point-blank-no-scope-sniping are viable tactics) for most FPSs.

I take things slow in every game I play. Even when I play Halo or CoD4, I'll very carefully plan out my strategy and attack, and not just burst in running and gunning(most of the time).

Same for me.

You should try Rainbow Six: Vegas or Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 ;) It's tactical, slow, but so satisfying on the highest difficulty...

Intelligence and thinking in online shooters can worth you more than your fair share of kills. :D

Well, I love FPS, I am not patient, but RPG's are still the games that I find immersive, and I like to dive in as much as possible.

I am patient when playing games, but not so much irl.

Or you can toss a frag, run into the room, and shoot like hell, and run out while switching to your pistol to gun down the rest. Usually gets me top three.

Must... point out... where wrong... *tries to restrain*

Ok for one, not a single shooter game can be simply point and shoot if you want to become good (enough).
Like with simple games like Time Splitters, it's quite arcade style yet however your method would get nowhere (nowhere!) because without skill and experience of knowing how to stay alive while still being the best killer, you will be the one being killed alot more than you can kill
(does that make sense?)

Beginning with this statement, I would also like to go on to say that your other comments make perfect sense to me ... As an older person, I myself would say that especially these days, "good enough" means that this is needed to get anywhere on a Pub as far as FPS games go.

- Aiming ability (even if that seems obvious at first)
- Knowledge of Level Layouts ... (a big issue, includes Spawn Points and Respawn times where applicable)
- Weapon's knowledge (Behavior, rate of fire, clip size, and possible overheats)
- Screenwatching / Awareness (being cognizant of essential UI information at all times)

Those are some examples where some thought is needed in such games.

Having said that though, I will also offer this:
In 25 years of gaming, my most memorable experiences come from RPG's and other "Sandbox" style environments.

Sincerely,

- KJ

You forgot "screenwatching expertise".

It's part of the game, and you all know it! :P

... Fixed, Dogmantra :)

... although to some degree this would be shared by an RPG lke Oblivion, perhaps?

Well, you are also forgetting close range combat, where both players need to reload.

The one that thinks faster, or better, gets the kill and not the death.

<Nods> ...

Upon consideration of this point, I have modified the "Weapons Knowledge" line of text to include issues relating to clip size and the possibility of jam-ups, etc.

It would also likely be valid that upon emptying a clip the one who pulls a knife instead of trying to reload would remain standing.

I'm currently playing No-one lives forever 2 on superspy level. So yeah I take it slow, no point in getting killed over a few seconds. Besides it'd be a waste to miss all those points and items you can get if you creep around a little more. I do play very fast in fps games though. It would be kind of stupid to attempt to sneak up on xan kriegor.

I'm not a very patient guy. Especially when it comes to getting a new game, or when something awesome is gonna happen. I do love RPGs though. Besides regular RPGs, I enjoy SRPGs, and Sandbox RPGs like The Elder Scrolls III and IV.
