:o I'm doing the Fighter's Guild quest with Modryn Oreyn, and according to the wiki page, I should soon be getting informred that the Blackwood guy is not in the place. But I have been wandering around for hours and I can't seem to generate this message. Help! I hate those stupid choppy things that come out of the ceiling. I want out of this place!

If you are in the first place you go to with him (I forget the name), the message should come up quite soon after you enter the place and there are NO choppy things from the ceiling there (in fact there's not much of anything there). I think you might be in the wrong place. The choppy things are in the SECOND place you have to go with him. In this second place, you will encounter choppy things and eventually go through the entire dungeon and eventually kill some dude (I forget his name too). You will then take his ring so that Oreyn can prove something or other.

You might be starting the quest in the wrong place.

 Erk. I don't think I'm in the wrong place. I am in Arpenia. This is what was marked on my map, and I followed the quest marker there. This is lame. I hate bugged quests. Thanks for your help though.

Here's what I remember (I just did it last night). Oryen says, "hey, you and I need to go to Arpenia (I finally looked it up) where this big battle supposedly happend and see what's up." Then he says, meet me in Leyawin or something I think... So you go there, meet up in the Fighter's Guild and he says "you ready?" and off you go. Now TOGETHER, you walk (unless you've already found it in which case you can fast travel there) over to Arpenia (make sure he's with you) to see if this battle actually took place. When you get there, you literally walk in, kill a few random rats, turn the corner once or twice, and in a big room he says "I knew it, it's all [&@%!], nothing happened here!" Then he says, "I bet you that this bad guy, who you and I will eventually kill, is staying at Atatar (I looked it up), JUST TO THE NORTHEAST OF THIS PLACE, so let's you and I walk there together and go kill him." And you do just that, walk over there with him, because if you get ahead of him, he stops walking and you have to go back towards him, etc. Finally, you arrive at this Atatar place and you go inside and it's a pretty large typical Aeylid place with choppy things and you wind your way through there killing the monster of choice (depending on your personal level) and eventually reach this dude with a gay name like Athis Zarcanowicz and you kill him easily. Oryen then says, "good, he's dead. Take that ring off his body and give it to me because that will prove that this whole thing was a [&@%!] thing concocted by Blackwood." Which you do and he says, scat and you're done. BTW, how he proves anything with the ring is beyond me but 'literary license' works I guess.

Hope this rambling totally inacurate account helps.

There are no choppy things in Arpenia that I recall. There is only one floor trap in the room where Oryen decides it's all a scam which squishes you against the ceiling full of spikes. He fell for it, the dummy but lived, of course.

Make sure ALL the rats in there are dead...until everything is dead in the first ruins, you won't get the messege saying he's not there :)

I finally got him to say it after wandering around for a looong time. I actually explored the entire area and lost him once (at which point I waited in a room near the entrance and waited for him to find me (he lost consciousness twice on the way). He eventually did find me and announced that the place was empty (gee, really, I hadn't noticed). :P Oh well at least it's all working again. Thanks for the help. :)
