I've been wanting to get it, but can't find it anywhere. I'd really like to play this game.

Arena's floppy disk edition was released for free in 2004. It is free to download and I believe distribute as you like (for free). However the CD/Deluxe edition is not freeware so downloading it is illegal.

don't forget to also download the DOSBox emulator so you are able to load and run the game ..

I don't think you need an emulator to run that game.

To get DOSBox to work, you have to tell it to "Mount" a drive as the C drive. Use the folder that your Arena is in.

For example,
Mount c c:\progra~1\Elders~1\Arena

That will make it see that folder as the C:\ drive. Have you used DOS a lot in the past or are you too young to really remember it? (DOS doesn't recognize long file or folder names, that's what those ~1 things are about. It shortens them).

Is it normal that when i play the game (With DOSbox) It going so slow, like if it was lagging, i never played Arena before so i wounder if it's the normal speed of the game.

the game is just sooooo low tech that it isn't lagging it just has a naturally low frame rate

I find it so surreal when people have never played Daggerfall! ;)

Daggerfall is nice and fast but a bit buggy, make sure you have the latest patch to reduce it to a minimum. However there is a bit of an XP compatiblity issue with Daggerfall, check out the wiki I'm sure it has more.

As for Arena, I don't think its cos its 'low tech', PC games had been going a good decade by the time Arena came out, other games of the time did not run slow. Basically its hard to emulate games like that on DOSBox, depending on the speed of your PC. It seems fairly slow when we play it now but to be honest its nothing to do with 'low tech' but perhaps rather the general game speed. However, I remember when my bro in law upgraded to a Pentium I 90mhz back in the day, and the game ran way way too fast - nowadays its just trying to get it to run up to emulated speed thats the problem. Try increasing framerate/skipping etc on DOSBox and that should help some.

It shouldn't be really...actually looking on ebay its price seems to have doubled in the past couple of years - I once saw a copy in a charity shop for £2, didn't buy it, then realised about two hours later it went for loads on ebay!

I'd have thought you would be able to get it on torrent sites or something...

Oh well, good luck. I've got my copy on the desk in front of me! :P
Sorry, couldn't resist!

The reason Arena runs slow on DOS Box is because you have to increase the cycles per sec. After you start, hit Ctrl-F12 a few times to increase it. It shows you at the top where you're at. It normally starts out at 3000. I just started tinkering with Arena and I'm finding the comfort zone to be somewhere between 15000-20000. Once you find where you like, you can edit the config file to have it start at any value so you don't have to do the whole F12 thing every time.
