Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
Yes, but there isn't anything "extra" anywhere, aimed at the type of character you chose. You get a bit of everything and you can pick it up or leave it, depending on your plans. But it's not like you're getting one more spellbook if you choose an Altmer, some arrows for your Bosmer, or a greatsword if you pick a Nord.
Rule #137: Always waste time when you don't have any.

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
Sometimes minor things annoy me, and the following is no exception:
I just noticed earlier that our characters no longer seem to blink. They just look around, glancing this way and that, without ever blinking. I know they used to blink because I would consistently have problems with them having their eyes closed while I was taking screenshots of them. Now? Don't have that problem because they just don't blink anymore. NPCs do, though.
Seems to be a result of the 1.9 update. It did fix some bugs, but it also created a few. Nothing new there.
That doesn't stop it from annoying me, though.

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of...tatortodd22 wrote: "Gotta keep my eyes open. Damn dragons could swoop down at any time."
"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck."
But Dragons are more appropriate, unless somebody has modded the Weeping Angels into Skyrim.
Still, it's kinda annoying that my characters don't blink anymore. They must have horribly dry eyes.

Dear god no!!!! There's not enough Vodka in Russia or Rum in any place sugar cane grows to drown out the horrible memories such a heinous thing would reek....
Almost as fast as thunder and near impervious to physical harm... but wait. You could get thrown back into the days or morrowind? nevermind my earlier rant. I'm okay with this now.

You know, that would be the most awesome thing ever. You get caught by a weeping angel and suddenly wham, you're in Balmora and there's this guy calling himself Nerevarine running around. Or you're standing in front of an Oblivion gate, somewhere in Colovian Highlands.
Or better not. I'd probably never see daylight again if someone made it.

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
The way I see it is why would my character come to skyrim as a total blank slate? my character is already a battlemage for example, i expect him to have a higher destruction and one handed skill and know a few more spells than another character. Skyrims blank slate approach doesn't reflect this.dzio wrote:I see it differently - if you can choose the class and get some bonuses right from the start, it looks like your character became what they were best predisposed to be. But if everyone starts from the same position, it looks like your character became what they wanted to be, and now have to work on succeeding. I prefer the latter, it implies a greater degree of choice and fits well with the whole "you can be whatever you want" theme of all TES games.

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
Well, yeah, that's why the next thing I said was that there should be a little variation between staring characters, to reflect the fact that they weren't all born exactly the same and they also already did some living.
But that's not the same as getting a class bonus. I like the idea of a bonus associated with that particular character that's chosen by the player - it says "this is the person I want to play, and now he's going to follow a career of a thief/mage/whatever". I don't like the idea of a bonus that comes from choosing a class, because it either says "he became a thief, because he was really good at lockpicking" (which implies the class is not really a choice but following natural predispositions), or "he became a thief and learned exactly what every other thief learns" (which implies that there's some kind of Tamriel Institute of Burglary and Highway Robbery, offering a standardized and comprehensive thieving curriculum).

Thats one thing I loved about daggerfalls character creation, you could build up a history and choose various special advantages and disadvantages for your character.dzio wrote:Well, yeah, that's why the next thing I said was that there should be a little variation between staring characters, to reflect the fact that they weren't all born exactly the same and they also already did some living.![]()

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
Yup, that was awesome, I actually even liked the random element with rolling the stats.
We're getting a bit off-topic here though so we should get back to discussing annoying parts of Skyrim, and maybe start a new topic that's about our ideas for the perfect character creation system?

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
I felt like they spent way too much time putting dragons in at expense of other elements of the game
All of the fights with dragons felt really boring and exactly the same as the last one: shoot at it with a bow, wait for it to land, attack it on foot, repeat until its dead.
Also the faction storylines sucked, they were far too short. In Oblivion they actually slowly eased you into the storyline of each faction, with most of the earlier missions having little or nothing directly to do with the storyline of the guild. In Skyrim it feels like you join the guild then one week later you're the big fancy boss after doing three missions. Also the main storyline can't hold a candle to Oblivion, especially the ending

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
I think they did the opposite. They didn't spend enough time on dragons. In the next Elder Scrolls, I would prefer more work on the quests themselves, rather than having more of them. Most of the quests are boring fetch quests. The only fun thing about quests is the journey to the next location.
Nothing is true, everything is permitted.

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
I completely agree - Skyrim has many different ways the player can interact with the world, but the game is missing all that potential by using only "kill this" or "bring me that" options. So I don't really want more dragons, I want different kinds of dragon fights. I don't care if the questlines are longer or not, I'd like to see them use all the potential the game has, instead of all that boring repetitive business.

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
I wish the Dragons had more character, and it really makes me mad that there are only 3 Dragons that are friendly with you in the game, and every other one is just ''big bad dragon who wants to kill everybody and rule, RAAAHHRR!!''
Alduin had no character, and neither did every other named bad guy Dragon he revives. it feels like they barely put any work into it.
the questlines in this game just drive me crazy, and if i started talking about them i'd end up ranting until the end of time.

Pretty trivial but annoying to me, is having several duplicates of already finished quests in my journal. I have around three "collect bounty from Skald" in my miscellaneous quest journal, and it's distracting to look at.

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
It makes me mad that I could build a completely furnished bedroom wing for Lakeview Manor except for a chest/drawer for my future brats adorable little hatchlings to store their belongings in and can therefore not adopt any infants of whatever species; and apparently this is because I already built a chest and drawer in the starting house/entrance area, so I don't get the option at the bedroom workbench anymore because apparently there can be but one chest and drawer per house or what. Really, Bethesda? I hate you.

My magicka bar not recharging while using a staff. It's kind of stupid since I'm using the power in the staff and not my own magicka.

Wolves in TES are not fun to fight. They are annoying and are the number one cause of diseases for most players. Lost many horses to them before the mounted combat was patched in and they are still annoying. Bethesda, either make them less hostile or scrap them as they are so bloody annoying.

Yeah, i'm with Raynil Dralas, wolves stop being a problem after ... wait no, wolves are never ever a problem, they are easy from beginning to end?
why would they scrap wolves? i think they should make more of them, i would love if it if we were actually attacked by a large pack of powerful wolves, instead of usual two wimpy ones we get now.

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
Wolves are annoying in the beginning. Almost as bad as Mudcrabs, actually. Though that is on the Legendary difficulty. They can take ages to kill and do fair amounts of damage on characters fresh out of Helgen. I find Mudcrabs do the same thing; some can kill my lower leveled characters in two or three shots.
That particular "problem" disappears once you reach a high enough level. Then they become as easy to kill as anything else.
At that point, the only thing annoying about them is that they no longer howl with Dawnguard installed, making it harder to tell when they're there. I've fixed that on PC, but it's irritating me on my PS3.
