MGMT - Time To Pretend
This song has grown on me so much lately. I think it's one of the most well-written, upbeat and generally perfect songs that's been written for ages. You probably won't fully take in all the subtle genius of it on one listen in the background, so I'll fill you in.
It's about how making it in a band is a completely life-changing experience. It starts off all upbeat and positive - "This is our decision to live fast and die young/We've had the vision, now lets have some fun/Yeah, it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?/Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute". Then when it cuts down to little more than Andrew Vanwynngarden's fragile vocals meditating on everything he misses about his old life "I miss the playground and the animals and digging up worms/I miss the boredom, miss the freedom, miss the wait of the world", and it's at this point where the mood changes from crack-fuelled hysteria to an acid comedown, ending on the immortal line "We'll choke on vomit, and that will be the end/We're fated to pretend".
And that's enough MGMT fellation for now.

Caz, how did you do that? I really am curious as to how you did the rocker emote.
Anyway I have been loving this live song.
Disturbed-Bound . It has Loading the Weapon off of "Music as a Weapon II" as the intro.

Seth Lakeman - Lady Of The Sea
Went to see him last night at Birmingham Town Hall, best gig I've been to this year so far. Absolutely fantastic. He really got the whole place going. Some interesting support bands too - Sharon Krauss Band sounded like a folk version of Sigur Ros, proper beardy druid music but good nonetheless, the only time I've ever heard banjos and accordions sound haunting. Tunng blended folk with laptop beats, some interesting choices of percussion and some very unusual instruments (eg a toy bird in a cage that makes a tweeting sound and plastic tubes banged against various body parts). I think I'm going to investigate Tunng further later on.

"I'm listening to anonymous YouTube link 754806fhji9", is not a good sell for a link, guys and gals..
I want to learn and grow as a human being - I really do - but my mind objects to a series of numbers and dashes, so I don't click thru. A little effort goes a long way.
[I'd now follow this with a shiny blue link to DJ Shadow's Stem/Long Stem - but can't find the album version on YouTube... curse you lazy uploaders!!!]
