I think the Pokéregions are near Japan'ish, as the maps are based off of real-life Japan islands.
The Pokéworld is very similar to Earth, btw, if not (almost) the same.

The Pokédex entries for R/B/Y talk about actual regions of the world, such as how Dragonite is able to swim across the Pacific Ocean, or how Mew was found in South America by Team rocket scientists.

Its eyes are literally one pixel wide. That's about a quarter of a millimeter. If anything actually has eyes that big, then it would be blind.

And I have to agree with General: Mudkip and its evolutions are better water/ground types.
