I dont see any thing about Oblivion in the expansions.
I was just thinking that. Oblivion and Shivering Isles were... completely different to say the least.

Anyway, loving the input everyone! Took my time reading them all and got to say, a lot I would never have dreamed of. And only a matter of time before we found out what the first DLC is and can speculate on the 2nd!

But just for another input, I don't think the first DLC will have anything to do with Thalmor. Much along the lines of Fallout, I think the first DLC will be completely standalone in its own right. So I suspect a daedric realm, but I think it's kind of too predictable at the same time. SO, I am assuming either a solstheim or Orsinium DLC.

But I have no doubt that Thalmor will be prominent in future DLC's. But either way, loving the forsworn/reach suggestions, just it would be hard to implement given the choices you can make in the Reach regarding forsworn (without giving too many spoilers away).

I would really like for the Thalmor to be dealt with in the DLC, they're not really anything special and to me are just annoying. So getting rid of them asap in a DLC would be nice.

A Thalmor related DLC would be nice! i like killing them in skyrim not because of them being elves but more of their attitude ticking me off every time i encounter them.

Some more Falmer related content would also be nice as i find them intriguing

The Falmer are interesting, but it would be cooler if there was more expanding on the Dwemer of Skyrim, which would include the Falmer and the technology of the Dwemer, and the Dwemer themselves.

The Shivering Isles are a realm of Oblivion. So yes, the theme of Oblivion is indeed Oblivion.

What I want to know is: why are all the factions waning when the Dohvakiin enters Skyrim? The Oblivion crisis set the mages college back, yes...but why is DB, Thieves guild, the Blades etc all reduced to minimal at the same time? There must be a reason for this.

I love Skyrim, and it wouldn't still be Skyrim if the dlc went to another province/area. The return of the Dwemer is big on my list too, but that will probably be a while for that. I would definitely like to see more family (ie kids), extensions on guild questlines, and I suspect Dragons will be expanded. But it will be interesting to see what they throw our way. :)

The Empire of Tamriel is in decline as of 4E 201. Thus, organizations that benefit from the unity and power of the Empire, which includes all of those groups you mentioned, are also in decline.

I don't expect a Thalmor expansion or DLC. IMHO, TES VI will be called Dominion, and will be where that storyline is resolved. I'd bet on a Falmer focused expansion, and probably some Falmer oriented smaller DLC as well. Maybe Solstheim, with at least a partial resolution of the fate of the Dunmer now that Morrowind has been laid waste.

The idea of a falmer DLC to myself isn't exactly appealing. I mean I understand their lore is in depth and what not, but in the end, they are just the replacement for Goblins and I couldn't find it very interesting. But, I hate to stab it in the back before it arrives.

Dont count on it.
Maybe you are able to deal with the Thalmor in Skyrim, but the Thalmor in general?
Not possible for a DLC.

Taking a note from new Vegas, bare with me here.

Your character learns of an experimental...experiment for time travel. Upon finding the mage working on the project needs a guinea pig, you step in and get launched into the past.
You awake (naked and no items) during the great war and you can see event as the happened. (Your character doesn't change the past they simply interact with it.)
You either see how the thalmor attacked or how the empire defended the imperial city.
After you witness 'the big moment' you can back to the present and regain all your items and any of the loot you obtained in the past.

Eh, eh? Pretty good setting Bethesda could use.

I thought we were going to get an update on the DLC with yesterdays release? Was I wrong or did I miss it?

Have you finished the main quest? Part of it kinda does this.

That was always rank speculation. The "surprise" turned out to be a high res texture pack, which wasn't even much of a surprise for those paying attention: a clever Beth forumite found the update's traces in Steam code almost a week beforehand.

Actually in the implied quest you watch and nothing more, and has nothing to do with the great war between the thalmor and empire.
But that could easily become a running theme of time(ish) travel.

What I would like is a DLC that integrates with the current Skyrim. And by that I mean not like Zeta/Mothership and Operation Anchorage DLCs for Fallout 3 where you're teleported to some area completely separate from the rest of the game. More quests for Maven Black-Briar would be neat, a real Bard's College questline, new materials for crafting, add a house to dawnstar, those sort of things.

These are what I think of when I hear DLC. All the Thalmor, Forsworn, and major realm changes sound more like a full blown expansion as opposed to small quest lines, single missions, or artifact related DLC's. Just curious, why the FO3 references? Wouldn't a better reference be the expansions of Morrowind and Oblivion? I get that it's still Bethesda but it just seems strange referencing across game lines. Are we assuming that because the other games are a little older people may not be familiar with them? Personally I've haven't played more than a half hours worth of FO3 so I find any relation to TES to be completely alien.

Yeah, the latter would probably be more pertinent for this forum's audience. Another formulation of Archae's point would be that he hope's some of Skyrim's DLC will be rooted in the main game area, the province, like Oblivion's Knights of the Nine was integrated into Cyrodiil. Shivering Isles on the other hand, sectioned off all the content behind a teleporter to a far-off realm.

In the FO3 connection, I remember FO3 skeptics panning the game as "Oblivion with guns" for all the obvious similarities between the titles. Same game engine, similar quest and dialogue structure, Beth super mutants look like ES Orcs, etc. Incidentally, it was amusing to see Pip Boy references in the CK the other day. :|
Assassin540 wrote:Well Bethesda did say they where going to make expansions not DLC's.
Would you agree that the distinction has been blurred in recent years? An expansion is just a big DLC, right? Especially considering the rise of convenient online content delivery systems like Steam.

It's all about the difference in size and scope. In my mind, DLC = adding a small number of new quests, NPCs, dungeons, etc. to an existing game map; Expansion = a large chunk of brand new real estate along with a large number of quests, NPCs, dungeons, etc.

Aren't expansions also available as a retail edition, unlike DLC which is only available for download. (DLC = Downloadable content).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't 4/5 of the fallout 3 DLCs off the normal map?

You have KoN and Broken Steel being added to the regular game, but the much larger SI and the other 4 pieces of fallout all managed to be moved to unique and different settings.

This is my prediction for most of the DLC for Skyrim, although I would like to see some various parts of the existing game fleshed out a bit

I used FO3 as an example because leading up to Skyrim Todd specifically said they were using lessons learned during FO3's DLC development to determine the size and scope of Skyrim DLC.

He specifically said most of the dev team favors expansions similar in size and content to Point Lookout for FO3, which was smaller than Shivering Isles but quite a bit larger than KOTN in terms of new areas and content.

Thanks for the FO3 clarification. I do agree with enyamerT and Abel regarding the differences between Expansions and DLC so as the forum title is DLC speculation I've been trying to contemplate everyone's ideas from that point of view.

To be honest I'd rather see more dlc's than expansions I feel that Skyrim as it is, is just unfinished and has so much more potential to be the great game I know it could be, I mean right now as it is I already view it as the best game I've ever played, I literally logged in 100 hours the first 2 months of the game, while new vegas took me half a year to get to 120 on two separate characters.
