I was apprehensive about getting Hearthfire too, but, for the price, it's not like I'm risking a lot. To be honest, in spite of it being reported as super-buggy, I've been having a very good experience with it. I'm enjoying it immensely, and the length of my Skyrim play sessions has increased substantially since I bought Hearthfire.
I'm thinking that there might be a benefit to using Hearthfire's alchemical and plant harvesting features. When I was playing vanilla Skyrim and harvesting the gameworld aggressively, a couple of my characters reached the point where plants and ingredients stopped respawning, and the world became a barren place. With Hearthfire installed, I am leaving the world pretty intact and pristine, and I'm hoping that by depending on Hearthfire for the harvest-able resources, that I can do an end run around the "no respawn" bug.
Is there a way to make an honest living in skyrim?

If the hearthfire farming reserves are so good I may consider getting it for my alchemically inclined characters. Currently I basically abuse fast travel, maxed speechcraft (investing perk) and "run" laps from store to store buying out all the ingredients available (making a few potions to pay for the purchases). Really a pain when I run out of my favorite batches of poisons.

Olaf should have gotten Meeko. He's free.
"Just remember," laughed the Emperor. "You Akaviri have a lot of showy moves, but if just one of our strikes comes through, it's all over for you."

In Oblivion I played as an Imperial dandy who travelled around Cyrodill reviewing the various Inns and Hotels.

I just realized the perfect job: Exterminator.
Shoot as many butterflies, moths, fireflies and bees as you can find. They never seem to go away.

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.
