Re: Doctor Who
Having the doctor be a different sex and/or race could be good. Of course they could mess it up too. I don't have any, "it should be this actor" things to say. I just hope whoever they get is good.
Jack should come back into it anyway.

Re: Doctor Who
I think they might want to shake things up a bit, there have been several mentions of occasionally weird outcomes of regeneration during Eleven's run (the Corsair, the "I'm a girl!" moment in the first episode).

Re: Doctor Who
New Doctor is being announced this Sunday. If you have BBC One it will be live on that channel at 7pm GMT. Or you could just wait and the internet will tell you.

Re: Doctor Who
Wouldn't it be cool if the new Doctor was Philip Glenister as DCI Gene Hunt? And I mean the actual DCI Hunt, a minor Time Lord relegated to shuffling the troubled souls of dead cops off to the afterlife, gets promoted via the regeneration?
Imagine it? A Doctor who's so badass, he bleeds whisky.

I'm on the fence about trying this series, however, where do I start?

You don't because all roads you'll enter by will lead to a sharp winding downhill path with loads of unpleasant bumps and signs with images of Steven Moffat giving you the middle finger every couple of miles.

Don't listen to Veck, go get season 1 of NewWho. No amount of Steven Moffat's middle finger should prevent you from experiencing just how amazing this show is.

Re: Doctor Who
I heard the writing went downhill since the 11th doctor. but everyone has to see Tennant.

Re: Doctor Who
I wouldn't say "downhill" as much as "in a different direction". It's a different show now. Still good, still enjoyable, but a lot of elements of older seasons are missing and the approach to storytelling is different. I preferred the "old way", actually most people do, but some of my favourite scenes come from the 11th Doctor period and I still believe it's worth watching.

Re: Doctor Who
Oh no, the writing went down a hill so steep that it was basically a vertical fall. The first Moffat season was for the most part good with shaky moments but past that it's just abysmally bad more often than not.

Re: Doctor Who
It has. Smith has recieved a lot of [&@%!] poor writing to work with and they always seem to reboot the universe or kill him off but because he rebooted the universe, it doesn't matter every season. Apart from recently. That and Moffat seems to work best when he doesn't have an overarching plot and just do seperate stories. Granted, Tennant also got some crap to work with but Smith was unlucky enough to end up doing a few crap seasons. But they had started to pull themselves back together as the last 2 seasons have actually been good.

Emmmmm. I like starting with the very beginning of a series, so maybe I'll try a few original episodes.

Re: Doctor Who
I think we've been through this particular disagreement before.
I will admit that Smith's run was shaky and uneven, and I dislike Moffat's plot arcs, but 11 had some fantastic moments too, Rory Williams is brilliant and Smith's acting was in my opinion great. I'm hoping the overall quality will get more consistent and the weak points will be rare and far between from now, but my lack of enthusiasm for the last few seasons is not going to stop me from watching next episodes.

Re: Doctor Who
If you mean the original episodes from the original series, it may be hard to find as the BBC didn't save them at the time or deleted them.
Same here. Although I did almost give up on Dr Who when it was going through a period of bad season after bad season thanks to Moffat but luckily, it became decent again.

Re: Doctor Who
The last couple of seasons, better? They're even worse than the early 11th Doctor ones. It's really not helped by Clara Whatsherface being just generally dull and unlikeable as well. The show needs another Donna, badly.

Re: Doctor Who
Bleh I lasted four episodes with the new companion before I just couldn't do it anymore. Lately it's just weak. Even the last few episodes with Amy were weak. I honestly hope that the 12th doctor is dealt a better hand.

Well if Peter Capaldi is anything like he was in other things.

Pfft, if you want Peter Capaldi then you should just watch The Thick Of It. He's not going to be able to be himself in a family show.

Re: Doctor Who
Capaldi not being able to tell a Dalek to stick it's egg whisk up it's hole will be a great loss.

Re: Doctor Who
Lord Fluffykiins has given me permission to revive this thread.
Anyway, the 50th anniversary of Dr Who is next week and i'm looking forward to it. BBC 3 are having a Dr Who top 10 monsters and villians weekend. Instead of it being a boring clip show, they just show the episodes that they felt represented the monsters or the episode that the monsters only featured in. From the Ood's first appearance to a Good Man goes to War, it's any series(since it came back to life in 2005.) that they are showing. Am fully expecting the Daleks and Cybermen to be number 1 and 2. And for the final episode of Rose as the Dr's assistant before Martha Jones to be shown.

Re: Doctor Who
Mine's the 10th. Mainly because i've only seen the series since it got restarted in 2005. David Tennant was a very excellent doctor and clearly had fun doing it. And had a lot of good material to work with. Whereas, Smith had a lot of crap material and tends to be a bit childish a bit too much. As for Ecelstons(forgive the spelling as i don't know how to spell it), I liked his take on it. A man haunted by his past but wasn't completely devoured by it. Shame he quit after one series.

Re: Doctor Who
1 Series? All Paul McGann got was a TV Film that was kind of crap. But he really was the highlight of it, so good as the Doctor.
Matt Smith is my favourite Doctor. Paul McGann is my 2nd favourite. David Tennant my 3rd.
