I think the best thing about Emerald is that there isn't a good team and bad team. It's much better fighting both Team Aqua and Team Magma. It's a bit annoying that you have to get a good 3/4 of a way through the game to get access to Pokemon Contests though.

I don't really worry about competitions unless I've done all the Gyms. But fighting both Team Magma and Aqua is bloody fun.
