I've....Joined the Minecraft craze. It's the beta, so I bought the game...What should I know in general? Do we have a UESP server? If so, what do we do? If not, do we have groups that play together? If so, what do you guys do?

How do you make wiring?

Lay out redstone and connect it to something that is powered by it (piston, door, hatch, etc) and connect it to a trigger (redstone torch, button, lever, pressure pad). If the path is too long, use redstone repeaters to extend the line.

Im not sure I understand what you are trying to do. What are you trying to power with redstone?

Yes. Easiest way is to put a button, pressure pad, or lever right next to the door, so triggering them causes the door to open. But using redstone, you can power it from farther away should you wish.

I generally branch mine. I usually do this down at the lowest levels to find diamond. Do you know how to branch mine?

Branch mining is where you dig out a hallway, I do it 3 wide, usually 3 high as well, though you might be able to make it 2 by 2. Then off the main hallway, you make single wide, 2 high shafts off the side. I usually extend out 20 blocks. You come back to the main hallway, and dig out another branch 3 blocks down from the first branch. Why 3 blocks? That way there is a new block on your left and on your right when you dig the new shaft. If you had only gone 2 spaces down, the block in between would have been one you saw before. This way you are always looking at new blocks and it is more efficient.
