Wow, that sounded a lot creepier than I intended, anyways
Well sure I mean most people who are going to be playing grand theft auto IIII are going to be "amused" by those scenes and maybe try to look through the window of the car but if that's all you do then... well I don't know
Why look through windows when you can get a convertible?

But I'm 12 and I can safely say that GTA IV hasn't influenced me in anyway. all my friends they want to go to the damn strip club, and I just look at them and say, "No ******* way". Why do that when you can go 100 miles in a chopper and fly out and try not to get hit by the propellers as you careen(sp?) into Liberty Sound? :Twisted Evil:

I know what you mean. They always do the same and just act like they don't want to. They're like "Maybe we should go to a strip club..." They always act annoying cus that's all they ever really do

I agree, it's getting boring now. It just doesn't seem to be that fun.. San Andreas seems more fun.

I don't see any problem with the targeting system, it works fine for me. The driving physics are fun, but if I try to play a different game with vehicles, it takes me a while to get used to the stability and so on (if only all games used universal driving physics...). About the prostitutes, I find them useless and annoying. If I want to watch a [&@%!] and a Serb goin' at it, I can just go on the internet (not that I do want to see something like that). Same goes for strip clubs. And people that find San Andreas more fun, it's because you use cheats three times more than in IV, if at all. Yes, I am admitting that I have used cheats in IV, and that it does make for a funner experience.

Stallion has always been the most fun car to drive I reckon, and it can hold it's own in a race against the big boys. Well, except down the long straights.

If we're to take the real car inspirations (as I can't recall whether the Turismo is based on a Ferrari or not, and if so, which one) I'd go for some kind of Mustang or Chevy over a Porsche/Comet anyday of the week.. well, except if that one day of the week is a track day at the Nurburgring.

The Stallion is and shall always be pretty much my favourite car in any and all GTA's; it simply has class and character. And generally, going slowly in GTA's is always more fun than going fast.

Cheats in GTA? As cheats ruin games, I haven't used a single cheat in any GTA I've ever played. Besides, finding the Infernus and suchlike has always been one of the most satisfying aspects of the series. Why would I cheat and take that away?

I agree.

*** SPOILER WARNING ***
DO NOT READ ON IF YOU HAVEN'T MET A CERTAIN CHARACTER WHOSE REAL INITIALS WERE F.C. BUT THEY CHANGED THEIR INITIALS TO B.C.!!!

I remember that one mission for Bernie where you had to chase those blackmailers in the Super GT. I nearly cried when they got out of their car and I had it all to myself. Of course, I had to kill them first.

My opinion is a bti different from the people here.

All the reviews pointed to it that the game was the BEST GAME EVER, but I never expected that, I didn't think anything could beat Oblivion, Halo 3 or CoD 4.

And it didn't. I'd rather play those other games. But GTA 4 was a very VERY decent game. Almost the most realistic game ever. And it has A HEAP of stuff to do. :? .

But it DOES get boring at time. Like finding a cool car or something like that. I still think I made the right choice just to lend it off a friend for a few weeks :) .
I have 2 words to say to you! I can't count!!!

I prefer saints row probally 'cos owning cars is more realistic how you can customize it and if it blows up you can pay $500 and it's repaired and in GTAIV i got that car from the homosexual guy and im to scared to use it 'cos it might blow up (i still have the first car i stole and i hardly use it)

(I think it would be good if there was a game with car insurance)

I pretty much agree, but that's sort of a problem with all the GTAs, not just IV. You finally find that perfect car and ten minutes later you go through an intersection, a guy runs a red light and sends you crashing into a wall at which point the car is totaled and you just lost the car, at which point the game, out of spite, reprograms itself to never have one appear again.

GTA IV: I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it's my favorite GTA by far. As for boring, I see IV the same as the others- I played it through once and loved it, but I'll probably never play it again (exactly like every one before it).

I cant say that playing GTA has changed me, the only game that has really changed me is Assassins Creed.
It's especially visible that it changed me, when i try to assassinate my friends with a wristblade.
Doin my own, thang, and if you got a problem with that
Then the nina go bang, bang, and I'll be everywhere on the map - but

I just don't like it anymore. I bought it the MORNING it came out, played it for two days, and the disk was getting errors so I just stopped playing. But there's a reason I never got around to replacing it. It was too realistic, and it was too hard to do anything fun. Instead of killing 4 or 5 people before you get 1 star, you get 1 star for just pushing someone in front of a cop. Boring. No change in scenery either. Too much city.

I stood in line for the midnight release and walked two miles home and guess what?

Not dissapointed in the slightest. The cars handle realistically, which is a big relief. Previous games were so damned arcadey when it came to controls for cars that it took me out of it.

The combat system is much better, and I have yet to get into a situation where I'm being shot at but instead target a homeless guy. Combat in previous games was broken and quite terrible- combat in IV is vastly improved and works very well.

The missions I like more. San Andreas was too damned stupid- breaking into an Amphibious Assault Craft and stealing jets? Breaking into Area 69? Jetpack? Two gangsters breaking into a national guard depot? Seriously, the game was rife with really insane and, honestly, stupid missions. Vice City? Well, Scarface ripoff ftw. Still though, slightly better than SA. III? [&@%!] man, the game had both great and [&@%!] missions, but at least none of them were insane like in SA.
IV has missions that I can believe in happening. That means I actually care more about the missions. That and, to be honest, Three Leaf Clover is better than 20 missions from any of the other games combined.

The Euphoria engine is awesome.

Story? Inarguably better than in previous games.

One thing that goes down to taste is customization- people want that. And, if Niko was like CJ, I'd understand how this is a problem. But the day Niko walks around in an afro or jerry curl is the day the main character has no respect from me and, therefore, I can't respect what they do or the story.

Liberty City is also the first city in a game where I feel as though it is a legit city. People complain about the game being smaller than SA, but how much of SA was wasted countryside or desert? At least half of it was useless and boring.

The characters are, almost down the entire roster, better than in any previous GTA games.

In closing, SA was insane and I didn't care about it. I played that game purely to [&@%!] around, I didn't care. IV? I do care, evidenced by the fact that I'm keeping much better care of the IV disc than the SA disc. Almost every point of the franchise has been improved in IV. Combat, driving, scenery, story, voice acting, etc.

The only point of the series that is getting worse is...

The Radio. Chatterbox from III remains the best talk radio station. VCPR in VC is second best, but the talk radio stations in SA and IV are rather boring. Why? Instead of focusing their writing on one show, they focus on parodies of many shows. It means each show only has a few recycled sets and, to be honest, the fortune teller show, the judge show, and basically all of the shows on teh talk radio stations suck. Integrity is okay, that should have been the focus.

Yes, but it's not quite Gears now is it? I've been quietly hankering after an FPS mode in a GTA for a while now (it could go along with that in-car cam like the trailers lied at... ), and until they do something magical - or use an FPS mode - the combat in GTA's is always going to feel broken and wrong.

Whilst I am not - I repeat not - someone whose stance is "Oh, jeese! It's a GAME! If I want realism I'll go outside" (like waiting for a bus in Shenmue... man, I loved that game), that was the point of SA. And frankly, it's no coincidence SA coincided with being the most diverse GTA to date with regards to actual, y'know, GAMEplay (flying being one of the niftiest things I've ever done in a GTA. base-jumping being my second).

Mike Toreno - my fave character in any GTA - getting you to steal a military VTOL craft is up there with my most memorable missions. The absurdity was just genius (CJ's absolute horror and fear, and Toreno's casual insistance that it was no big deal), and it was immense fun.
Story? Inarguably better than in previous games.
Yes, but do we really play GTA's for their stories? I thought it was for their gameplay, their characters, their OTT take on life? I'm no bible bashing muppet, but I am a 'moral' man; and the GTA universe is filled with scum, frankly. I've never found much sympathy for any of the characters in any GTA, I don't particularly find the idea of pushing narcotics through three whole games to be very fulfilling. But it's never been a problem because of GTA's humour, and the sheer fun of the missions.

I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but GTAIV was too dark. I haven't played through to the end (because of the whole bored-to-tears thing that stopped me playing), but in a more superficially 'realistic' context the actions of a few scumbags, in Virtual New York version 20.7, isn't something that keeps me coming back for more.

GTAIV gets close to the current sterotype of what teenage gamers perceive to be 'mature', which is: random violence and too much swearing. It's not big and it's not clever. Now I can swear with the best/worst of them, but IV cut it far too close with certain words I don't think should be in ANY game. And as idiot parents allow idiot children to play 18 rated games, even Rockstar should tone it down (just a little bit).

Yeah, but it's a game. I want to walk down the Vegas strip as an obese African American in a purple pimp suit - with a 'Will Smith' cut - with a desert eagle, popping off rounds in the air if someone calls me "fat" (after I've just parked my helicopter in the middle of the road... ).

In San Andreas, I can laugh at a CJ come-back line just walking around (another thing they took out of IV, the brilliant user responses).

I guess it just comes down to the fact that they're two different games. Well, it would if they weren't still using 10-year-old mission structures and characters... so no, they're not two different games - IV has less stuff in, less humour, is smaller, and (for me) is less fun.

If I can drag myself to do so, I'll finish off the story before trading it in for Lost Odyssey.

I agree entirely with Tourist on this one (wait, what? us agreeing?), well except on the FPS thing. I like my 3rd person shooters but GTA:IV's system seemed clunky to me, and the lock on cover system wasn't worth bothering with.
Not having played Gears I can't compare it with that. However Uncharted had a far superior shooting/cover system and would of been great.

Truth be told, the PSP GTAs are better then GTA:IV.

Gears of War=/=Grand Theft Auto. By that logic, I could say, "Bahh, Gears of war isn't like BioShock!" Or, "Bahh, BioShock isnt exactly Final Fantasy Seven, isn't it?!". Two different and games and, in all honesty, genres as GoW is a linear game.

Oh, and a GTA FPS would be the worst thing ever.

The mission you named is where I normally stopped playing San Andreas. It got stupid. I have never been a fan of games where you end up doing something that takes you out of the feel of the game- like in True Crime where you end up fighting some sort of Dragon thing where up until then it had been fairly realistic. Mike Tereno and the Truth's missions in Bone County took me out of the game. Because, in all honesty, after you unlock the entire map why bother playing through the story if you hate the story like how I hated most of the second half of San Andreas? Crap, out of the twenty or so times I've played San Andreas, I've finished the story maybe four times because I stopped caring at all about every character and event in there. And why did I stop caring? Because the missions got so stupid that I thought, "No gangster would ever do this. This is stupid. I'm going to do some drive by shootings." and I'd do that instead of breaking into Area 69 and stealing a Jetpack.

And I like characters who have limits, backstories, and motivation for doing what they do. Claude from GTA3 has motivation and nothing more. Tommy from VC has a motivation and a tiny bit of backstory. CJ has poor motivation, poor backstory, and no limits. Niko has a believable backstory that gives him good motivation and he has believable limits. Maybe some people would rather every GTA game have [&@%!] poor characters, but I'd rather the series improve.

And if you want stereotypical cool, then why don't you mention the entire Los Santos portion of San Andreas? That defines what your average teenager thinks is cool.

And yes, I play through a game's storyline because I enjoy it. If people didn't play through the game for the storyline, then what else is there? In every GTA game, you unlock the entire map before you beat the storyline. If you don't care about the storyline or characters, there is no reason to finish the game.

I also have tio debate people on some other forums about the story. Too many people miss the point of the game, they get [&@%!] that Niko doesn't take over the city or something stupid like that. They don't want to understand that Niko does what he does for the follwoing reasons:
1- He is good at it.
2- He is looking for someone.
3- It pays.

And they also seem to forget that there were three reasons he came to Liberty:
1- He thought his cousin was living the American Dream, only to find out through the course of the story that the American Dream is impossible for someone like him and that the dream itself is a lie.
2- He is looking for the man who betrayed his unit and left many of his childhood friends dead. This, by itself, and the fact that it has been *years* provides him with a better motivation than the previous characters combined when he arrives in the city. CJ came back to bury his mother and decided to get involved in the street life. Tommy was pure scum and was doing a drug deal that went wrong. Claude was just a petty criminal that sought revenge after being betrayed by his woman. Niko? Niko didn't come to Liberty City to take over or to even commit crimes(except after he found that special someone.). It was Roman's problems with loan sharks that started Niko down the path that you play during the game. After you kill the first man, Niko screams, "I promised myself I wouldn't kill anybody in this country!"
Obviously, is Niko a good man? But through conversatiosn throughout the game, you realize that he is not a bad man, he doesn't hate the police, he doesn't think what he is doing is justified, and he certainly realizes that he hangs out with bad people. As the game progresses, you realize that Niko is himself a tragic figure- if he had never been betrayed during the war, he would not have turned to a life of crime and he wouldn't be as obsessed with revenge. Niko could have been a normal guy, a nice guy, not a violent criminal. That is what makes him tragic: His potential for good is undone by others and sets him on a path that destroys his soul.
3- After he turned to a lif of crime, something went wrong with a man named Mr. Bulgarin and Niko fled. Besides the fact that he may or may not owe the man money, not much is known. It may be expanded on during the LIVE Content.

I you like customization, as I said if Niko was not a thirty-something Serbian with a past and history with no real desire to get different haircuts or to get bling, then it'd make sense. With CJ it made sense, so it was fine, but if my willingness to play the game is adversely affected by the fact that in cutscenes I'd see Niko with an afro, pink sunglasses, and hotpants, I think I'd stop playing.

IV may have less stuf in, but I have yet to find one thing in SA that I enjoyed that was cut in IV. Flying wouldn't have made any sense, it is one flippin' city. Base Jumping? Enjoyable, but not really a bad cut. The game does have less humour, agreed- but then again, the majority of humor that I cared about was from the radios so a tighter focus on the radio would have aided me. The game is smaller agreed, but none of it wasted. Lots and lots and lots of SA was wasted completely. And as for fun, I'm having more fun with IV right now than I ever had with SA, VC, or III.

*Is a teenager surrounded by stereotypes*

Los Santos was boring... booooorrrrriinnnnggggggg. And so was that entire section of the SA map. IV actually does get a lot closer to the twisted stereotypes of what cool is to impressionable idiots. Now, take a slightly OLDER stereotype which only a few teenagers still adopt... yeah then Los Santos covers it.

Anyway, GTA IV = boring. SA = CJ had enough motivation to come back to his hometown, and when his family started falling apart and becoming corrupt in front of his eyes, I'd have to say that added motivation to fix the situation... okay that was a really opinionated view of CJ's character motivation etc, but SA as a game just had more options. Even if they weren't all completely realistic, they were still realistic within their own sphere of possibility. Can you imagine a somewhat average gangster-at-heart NOT being scared out of his mind doing the Mike Toreno missions? I think not. Or... it'd never happen in reality anyway. You'd have to have a few loose screws in the head to not be scared witless doing some of those things without knowing why.

All in all... my favorite part of GTA IV is driving. Although the handbrakes don't quite work realistically... it's too hard to spin a vehicle around without DRASTICALLY slowing down, running into something, or spinning the opposite direction you intended to. And what's this nonsense about not being able to do a backflip on a motorcycle? Most of the time, unless I start a wheelie AFTER I'm going up a ramp, I get half-way around so Niko is ready to bash his back into the pavement, and then the bike turns sideways instead of continues on its flipping path. Lol... but driving is still the best part of the game to me.

In SA (and VC, and III)... the story was just more fun. As Tourist said, nobody plays to enjoy the depth of a GTA story, they play for the fun of it. If people can enjoy the depth of the story too, great, but GTA just isn't the kind of game I can do that with. I liked that the story had depth to it... I just can't enjoy it.

The best part of GTA IV? Lazlow's Show. The single greatest radio station in all of GTA. "... That's why they call me Jackrabbit Jones."

Most of the time, unless I start a wheelie AFTER I'm going up a ramp, I get half-way around so Niko is ready to bash his back into the pavement, and then the bike turns sideways instead of continues on its flipping path. Lol... but driving is still the best part of the game to me.
VC and SA made you fall off your bike at the peak of your backflip, but in IV, backflips are easy, once you get used to them. And why does everyone think the driving physics are unrealistic? They're almost exactly like GRiD's, but less fishtailing.

I thought the driving physics were great... I just get annoyed when my car doesn't turn as far in the direction I want it to half the time. :(
