The game isn't boring at all... but there are only so many times one can complete every singal quest. The repetivness is boring, not the game.
And thats what i mean

That means no daedra invasion and you would lose all your powers and stuff from the main quest for changing history. or he coould send you there but it is and illusion
That's not true. Im thinking in terms of "Back to the Future". He goes back and his alternate self exists (but in our case our alternate self would be imprisoned?). So we could keep all of our gear during the travel.

And you would have to finish the main quest to activate this time travel quest. But you could make it more specific by only allowing you to scale the tower fighting off people and getting the king to safety (say in another capital) and from there a new game could be born ... Elder Scrolls 5. Where all of the people have come together to fight off an army of evil (people.. no demons or weird monsters this time) and protect their king and his sons. Maybe that's to much like Lord of the Rings? Who cares, it would be an amazing fight. Ive always wanted to be in this ginormus sword battle with people al around and I can choose who I want to fight. That would be sweet.
No what he saying is if you save the emperor there will be no oblivion invasion cause the dragonfire is lit. Then the emperor wont need to come through your cell and youll be spending your time in prision see ehat i mean.

Obviously you dont now what I mean. The emporer still gets attacked, you just have to protect him. You FINISH the main quest. That means the emporor and his sons were murdered, you found jaufree, baurus... etc. You beat the main quest of the MAIN game.

Im saying that Bethsda should come out with an expanison much like the ones for Morrowind (Tribunal, Bloodmoon), but in this case the story would be a mage summons you and wants to send you back in time before all this mess happened... I would say you need to have your stats up for this to be activated. ANd he would come to you and ask for your assistance because he had heard of you and your good heroic deeds or something like that.

So no, there will not be any daedra invasions in this one... thats the point, you are to try to stop it from ever happening. You have to fight against the soldier people in the begining all the way through with your current character (the one you went back in time with... same stats, same weaponry, etc.). It would be cool to have you take the emporer through the entire castle area into the prison where you see yourself (which could be accomplished by having a mirror image of the main character you made in the begginng of the game, just in the rags). Have your main character (the one back in time) be an offical member of the body guards so when they go through that door your main character that was in prison has to go through all that mess again (with the rats, zombie etc..) Only you dont get to see that, you get to see a few more big fights and then that character that was in prison jumps down he helps the king get to that point to where he was murdered. While you are both standing there that wall slides up and since you know its going to happen, you kill him and the emporor thanks you. Oh, somewhere along the lines the king could get knocked out and you have to protect his body and while he is laying there he has a dream about how the time traveler will save his life, that way he doesnt talk about how he IS going to die. Ok, so you kill that guy in the wall, baurus comes back and you 2 protect the emporer through the sewers and when you get to the exit, baurus tells your mirror image that he is no longer needed blah blah blah and then you click on the exit and you are transported to some place else. Not sure where. Maybe a safe house or something.

And think about it... if you get to save him that means he is still alive and THAT means they get to bring Patrick Stewart back for more dialouge ;)

recently (ie after morrowind/oblivion) i've been reminiscing about daggerfall and the scope of that compared to the most recent two. i used to spend hours just travelling to some obscure town in an obscure state, borrowing large sums of cash from their bank, wiping out the citizens and guards and then travelling back across the country to hide out in daggerfall, fitting in with the other hundreds of thousands of randomly generated citizens. it's something you can't do in morrowind or oblivion (though understandable and for obvious reasons, ie. the fact that the top-end computers available to us today could probably only barely handle one daggerfall-sized city in oblivion or even morrowind). morrowind and oblivion feel very alive, but i still feel very much like it's not really the dunmer capital or the imperial city, because of the 20 or so people that make up the population of each city.

i think the perfect elder scrolls game would let you travel to anywhere in tamriel, with the technology and handling of oblivion, and the scope of daggerfall (hundreds of cities with varying sizes spread across dozens of states, each featuring huge amounts of people, shops, quests, etc...)... all the while keeping the great storytelling that makes the elder scrolls games stand out from others. hmm.

and goingxdeath... that's the longest excuse to bring back patrick stewart i've ever seen.

Yep, my dream too. Remake of Daggerfall in Oblivion engine.

I'm doing it really slowly too. I did it town by town, and only reached the Imperial City around Level 31/32. I never fast travel to a new location, I always go by foot.

So far I have done nearly all the miscellaneous quests, but I still have a couple of "collection" ones (Nirnroot is done - I'm almost sad about that! Wish there was a bonus for getting 150 or more) but the wine one and the statues one - which I haven't even been assigned yet - are still to do. I have only done two of the Daedric Shrine quests.

I'm about 1/2 to 2/3 through the Fighter's Guild and Mages Guild quests. I haven't even joined the Thieves or Dark Brotherhood yet (alignment issues - I might do them after the main quest). Still masses of caves and ruins and forts to explore, plus a good chunk of wilderness in the eastern riverlands area. I've done about 15-20 Gates so far.

So there is still MASSES of non-main storyline stuff to be getting on with, expansions are coming out all the time, and those Gates just keep on opening!

Nah it's not all that greatly interesting, at least in the middle stages. I finished it awhile ago, and thought the finale was pretty well done. I didn't like it as much as Daggerfall's though. I've never really given MW's main quest a chance in hell though, so I can't comment on it. Wish I had my old 486 to give Arena a good run now, come to think of it.

But yeah, I'd like a nice expansion sooner rather then later like they did with Tribunal. Make a nice one fast'ish with new items and such, AND WEREWOLVES, and make a second xpack that's a lot longer and polished in the dev cycle.

Visit Morrowind and close the Oblivion gates and restore order, learn new spells in High rock, fight Argonian renegades in the Black Marsh or just soak up the sun of Summerset Isle! The world would be so massive you could always find something to do, oyu could go anywhere, do anything it would be freakin AWSOME!
It took Bethesda like 6 years to make Oblivion, and that was just with Cyrodil. Could you imagine how much work it would take to create other provinces too? Or how many DVD's it would take to install the game?

Anyway, it's understandable that people would find the game content boring after completing the main quest.

I am level 34, have completed every small and town quest, every thieves guild quest, half way through fighter's guild, next is mage's guild and then finally the evil assassin people. I haven't even started the main quest yet and am saving that for absolute last. With my first character I just kind of did everything at the same time, all of the guilds and the main quest. I restarted and opted to pace myself and have an order to things, and it makes the game much more enjoyable.

I am a powergamer so at times I find myself ignoring the little things that make Oblivion great and plowing through the quests fine tuning my character based on game mechanics. A powergamer's mentality makes Oblivion suck. I find that slowing down and enjoying all of the open ended aspects of the game makes it much more enjoyable. A traditional quest grinding mentality has very little place in a work of art like Oblivion.

Most of these 6 years was figuring out how to make Havok behave realistically, writing shaders and randomizers for grass, lights and trees, generally getting the game engine to look like it looks now. Building of the actual world, quests, land, NPCs took only a minor part of that time. I hate seeing a good game engine go to waste, replaced by something else written from scratch and taking another 6 years to write, and again leaving half a year or so for making a gameplay content running on that engine.

If they didn't focus on improving the game physics/graphics anymore, they could quite cheaply add vast bigger landmasses using current tools. The engine could easily handle all of Tamriel plus Akavir.
Oh, and they could drop full voice acting too. I wouldn't miss it.
They could even release some more games based in other provinces not as expansions but as standalone, full games, basing on the same engine just with some (goddamned UI) fixes but totally new gameplay content...
