Like Avron the S'wit, I prefer to play the opposite sex.

I was born a man, so I know what its like to be a man. I like playing a female for a breath of fresh air.

Plus, there's nothing more badass than seeing a female warrior taking down a dragon. I'll be screaming at the screen, "You go, girl! Take down that beast!"

The only time I've played as the opposite sex it's been cause the voice acting has been better that way (DA2 for example). In Skyrim it won't matter much.

Obligatory TV Tropes link.

I've actually never tried stuff like this before, mostly because I want to spare myself the harassment from my brother. But then again, he has a job now, so I might be able to get away with it.

So... probably.

I would pay to see that.

I'm with you on the playing the opposite sex most of the time, im a female 24/7, so why not be something different for a change?

Yes. I'm a female and play as male in almost every roleplaying game that gives me the choice to do so. It's easier to separate myself from the character and create their own personality.

Well, I tend to view myself as the author of my character's story rather than the having the character be my avatar. This allows for some variety in my characters - they can be tall, short, weak, strong, good, evil, male, female, etc.

Most of may characters tend to be smart, persuasive and favor speed & agility over strength & endurance so I tend to play more female elves than male nords.

I tend to play females because I relate to them more, but with the addition of being able to explore your sexuality and choose if you are hetero, homo or bisexual I think I will be playing more males in Skyrim. (: I always end up playing both male and female characters though to see if there are differences, even if they are minor, such as dialogue.

I do however always play females in WoW, because I think all the males look ugly as crap. >>; So I guess it just depends.

I always play as a woman, so no. Though I did make one character who was a man in Oblivion, I never actually finished that playthrough.

So far, no and have not had the desire to play other than female. I like my gender. Also agree that there are few good looking males around. Mario Rufus is kind of cute.

I always play as a female eventually for that very reason, but usually I'll do several different playthroughs as male characters first.

I pretty much follow the "Gameplay first, eye candy second" approach.

If being a male offers stats/skills/choices more to my liking I do that.
If not then I play as a female so I have something nice to look at.

I'm kind-of-nearly-almost the exact opposite to you! I'd rather start off a character that I love looking at, imagining either being or having under my control (another poster mentioned thinking of themselves as their character's narrator - I like that a lot - I either AM my character or I am telling their story - this even varies from moment to moment with a single playthrough).

I'm going to be working with each of the characters I create in this game for many months: I want someone I genuinely enjoy being around.

From the gameplay point of view...I will play to my character's strengths and weaknesses, just like when I used to roll a "Strength: 3" in Dungeons & Dragons!

I always play a male for immersion, and if I want to look at an attractive woman I'll watch [&@%!] instead of stare at a video game character.

Interesting concept... I guess that's why I joined the Army. So I could shoot at real people and not have to play CoD. (yes, sarcasm)

It's funny how gamers straddle the fence on the reality vs. real-world concept of such games.

Many of those here who've ever "rolled a character" find delight in being in strange shoes and figuring out the specific narrative for that character. Whether weak/strong, male/female, or any given race. Those people may just find a few more playthroughs in Bethy games.

So, while rolling up a female character may make you appreciate Bethy's version of the female form, I feel that actually leaving your comfort zone and immersing in something different may just make us appreciate certain parts of the game a bit more. (marriage feature comes to mind)
I played a ton of hours in FO:NV and thought that I was bored and done with the game. Played through as female chose different perks/skills and it felt like a brand new game.
I don't know who can do rpgs like this outside of Bethy.

I don't get this whole "Playing a female character in a video game means you want to have babies with her" mentality. It's just like SpikeSpeigel mentioned, it can feel like a completely different game playing as the opposite gender. It's the same feel as when you play an Argonian or a Khajiit.

If the only thing you think of when you look at a Woman is sex related then that kinda makes you the weird, creepy one. I actually normally play as a male I'll admit, but some of my most interesting playthroughs in TES games were by using female avatars and making interesting background stories for them. Please try and think outside the box before you label half the forum as a bunch of pervs...

Homo-power.
I can mix immersion with staring at sexy pixel butts. Yay.

I'm not planning anything for my first character. I'm gonna mess with the creator for about 6 hours, after that I'll know which gender I'm gonna play. [The next day]

Yes.
I assume that Beth have made gender matter a bit more this time around, making interactions more interesting if you're this gender or that.

Always played as male, and I will in this aswell. - Dno why I would want to play as a female. It just seems wrong.

That or rather uncomfortable with gender bending.

On topic: I'll be playing as a female. I don't relate well to player characters of a different gender than me, and the characters I like to model mine on are all women. Plus, heroines are more rare in fiction, particularly ones who aren't pretty, sympathetic or undamaged, so I find a heroine more interesting given the kind of character I generally make.

Perhaps. - If they look more realistic and gorgeous in this game, I might roll a mage on my 2nd playthrough as a female. Intelligent women are arousing.

I will likely play as female, due to the fact that I can't play as a male without feeling I have to make him be like me, which makes me uncomfortable.

But I can play as both. I just prefer females out of getting creeped out by some weird reason.

That's not sexism. It's personal preference.
It WOULD be sexist if he thought that others playing as female are somehow "wrong" or that Beth should not have include the feature to play as female.

But it COULD be misconstrued as such. It's got a double meaning, as far as I see it. But it's irrelevant, so move on.
