@Hat: It only took me two nights.

@Rag: I started drinking when I was about 15, and I live in Greece, Europe. No one gives two [&@%!] about underage drinking here because people actually know how to drink.

Honestly, putting restrictions on things will just make it worse. What good does the 21 drinking age law do? It makes binge drinking that more attractive. Besides, as long as you have sense, you won't get yourself in trouble. Others will do that for you. Literally every single article about teenagers getting alcohol poisoning involved over 18's encouraging them to drink.

It does promote underage drinking for sure.

And while I did plenty of my fair share of underage drinking....after turning 21 I really realized why the drinking age is 21...I'm not saying just cuz your under 21 doesn't mean you can't handle it, but to a certain extent, there is a level of maturity that just isn't there beforehand...I don't know if it's a change in mindset because you realize it's legal so its "not as big a deal"

but after hanging out in numerous bars the past few years...I'm glad under 21 aren't allowed in..

I don't care about the limit anyway because I think it's stupid, but seeing as my mom's been giving me rosé since the age of 12 (yes, I know I was a wimp back then) I guess I was following it all along.

Italy is 16, Netherlands is 16. A lot of countries only stop minors from 'buying' not 'consuming' alcohol. Besides, the majority of the people I know(including myself) have been drinking(as in not a can of larger a year as a treat) since about 14... the majority of these same people are now at College, University, or in full time employment. Hardly a problem for society now, are they?

Let's face it, most people don't give two craps about the drinking age law. Hell, even the police don't care that much. Reason? alcohol isn't that dangerous if you have more then two brain cells.

Must be a cultural thing, because I'd never keep an under 18 from trying out alcohol. If you're with experienced friends (read: friends and not some random guys who want to get in your pants by getting you drunk) you're in no danger.

I noticed a big characteristic in drinking maturity, is not being ashamed of the drink you have....I've been called out numerous times for drinking either wine, or some sort of fruity drink....or the fact that I sip 99% of the shots I drink...Unless you want me in the corner throwing up, why do you care what I drink or how I drink it.

Maybe a pointless point, more of a "don't be worried about what you drink" but, I stand by it.

that's not an answer to my question. that's a dodge.

others have already answered that in spite of it being illegal, they or their parents encourage it anyway.

@Hat: That was just a joke. Anyone who actually means what they say when saying things like that is an idiot.

Rosè is pretty great. Not as good as white, but anything's better than red.

Edit:

Wikipedia is actually wrong. Most bars in Greece have a 17+ rule about purchase and consumption (without a guardian present).

How do you figure? You asked "how many", I answered "a large number" while also expanding on my point. So unless dodging the question has a whole new meaning, you're wrong. I'm sure I could go through the list of people in this thread who have posted, find out their age and where they are from, but I know off the top of my head that many of them are under 18, and living in Europe so it would be a waste of time.

Obvious Ragnarok is obvious.
really? obvious that a couple posters already said its either culturally or personally a nonissue regardless of the the law? the law posted from wiki isn't universal u know?

It's not that they 'encourage' it, it's mainly because they have trust in their children and know how responsible they are. If a parents child was a complete lemon, they would probably be a lot tougher on them when it comes to drink and drugs.

Drinking is a very big thing in Europe, it's pretty much a cog in the machine. Why do you care if people enjoy themselves?

I am 19... a lot of the people in this thread are actually adults(depending on the countries classification of adult) or there abouts.

Because it's my job to give you a complete list of where all of our posters are located and their age? Sorry, I've been slacking. Unless you're implying that I'm lying because you can't take it on faith that many is the right answer. Veck, Dean, Mars, Raven, Rhyme are all from European countries and those are just the ones that have been active in the last page or so. I'm not sure what your point is here, unless you want to find out who drinks underage.

Also, damn, would it kill you to capitalize your sentences?

reread in context ...

"they or their parents "

operative key word "or"

*edit* now, can we dispense with all the red herrings and straw men? the point is not promoting underage drinking. agree or disagree?

Alright, I'm going back to ignoring this [&@%!]. I'm not sure what he's even getting at besides "Drinking's bad mmmmkay?". And since the rest of us have some common sense and our own parents, I find it silly to keep listening to him, especially with his poor posts and many insults.

So has anyone tried Landshark Lager? Probably only those of you from the states would have, but I'm starting to like it. I guess its supposed to be similar to Corona, but a cheaper domestic version. Not bad.

Edit: Kudos to whoever made the swear filter change a$$hole to anus. Sounds much better.
