I'm still up for the chat, but I agree, that it should supplement rather than detract from the UESP, still I think it's still a good idea.
One question, my OP is only for the nickname 'Duruza' isn't it?

I just want to point out that in a chat that was started as an unofficial part of these forums, without mod support and with no clear cut set of rules, I would have been surprised if there weren't problems. The chat is gonna be filled with spam because that's what happens when you have several people talking at once. It's just an extension of the general discussion stuff which is essentially spam at a slower pace.

I think that as a irc, some spam and silliness is expected and not unwelcome, but obviously there are better discussions to be had on the actual forums. The forums themselves DO NOT need spam so the chat might take that spam away, but we can still have off-topic conversations here, as the GD has been fairly productive on several occasions.
Nonetheless, any suggestions would be appreciated as always, I'm not sure what's happening with the chat, as it's been empty almost all of today, but if it's still running and NightFather still want me as an OP, I'd more than appreciate community input into improving the experience.
That being said, don't expect miracles from a chat room. It's there, but the UESP Forums will always be a nicer place to hang out.

The topic in chat says it all - General Silliness. That's what the chat is for. While I respect your choice not to use it, I'm a little confused, as making the chat was the single greatest decision I made in the course of my time here. Because of it, I made friends. I wouldn't have done that otherwise. So Chaos and Weasel, we'll miss you.
You're always welcome back for a bit of silliness. A serious discussion is best left to the forums - but in actuality, there are very few serious discussions actually going on. The General Forum has always just been a way of getting to know people - and everyone I know on General I became friends with on the chat

Indeed it is. However, while logged into your main nickname, you can group other nicknames into your main one with the command "/ns GROUP Duruza yourpassword". For example, I have the nicknames "TheNightFather", "TheTrampFather", and "Trampy" all registered to the AOP list

Look guys, Chaos and I don't hold disbelief to the General Silliness, we just feel that maybe that chat will do nothing but bad for the forums.
I'm glad you made friends through the chat. Maybe I am just so accustomed to the old way of making friends with people on the forums, through general experience and the GD/Offtopic threads. I also know that while the chat indeed drags some of the spam away from UESP, it concentrates all the spam there and not much really happens besides mindless blank posts and and extremely long and worthless thousand-letter long posts.
Maybe I just love the fact that the forums way of bonding with people is slower and more gradual, and you may pick up a few inside jokes along the way.

Do what you like Weasel
But we'll miss you. The fact is, the chat is a much easier way to get to know people. The Forums, wonderful as they are, tend to lean themselves towards "cliquey" behavior, which makes it very hard for a newbie to break into the group. Everyone would rather talk to someone they know than someone they don't. Where as I've made plenty of friends on this Forum... but not on the Forum itself. If it wasn't for the chat, I wouldn't even be in General.

I find it the opposite, people are more likely to be polite and open with new members than if they went into the chat.
UESP has a strong "Neighborhood watch" community, who is there to tell off an older member from scaring away new people, whereas the Chat is likely to scare the more well mannered people who like to keep the chatter to TES and some general banter. Forum requires you to post out into the open, where all can see, versus the relative 'behind the scenes' way of chat rooms.
I also scoffed the a cliquely behavior comment, seeing how I've adopted more people than I can keep track of and all from vastly different join times, backgrounds and moral views (Chaos loves Nate <3). When I feel the forum return back to its social glory, then I may come back, but for now, I'm keeping my distance to make sure UESP gets its Chaotic love

Mainly they are focused on reminding us that necrophilia is still illegal but it has managed to keep up a presence scaring away the ruffians who would drive down our property values. Seriously though I've always felt that forums can be much more friendly than a IRC can ever be.

Perhaps you think, but a lot of other members don't - and these are the new members who are the ones trying to break into the group. You've been on the forums for a long time Chaos, and you perhaps don't realize how difficult it is to break into the group as your own person.
Futhermore, I don't see the chat as at all unfriendly. I'd have no friends on the forums if it wasn't for it, and that's a certainty. Perhaps it's an isolated case, but the fact is that I made all my friends on this forum elsewhere - hell, I even got to know some of the mods reasonably well (Avron=Geoff btw).
I just really don't get your arguments. While I agree that General seems barren with the chat, General should be for more serious discussions - all I see is General Silliness, which in my humble opinion, doesn't belong on a forum. The most obvious example of this is General Discussion, which is simply a chat thread. Not to mention, many other parts of the forum are flourishing (the Oblivion and Skyrim sections are being posted in quite often). It's just General Banter that is suffering, and a forum is an ill place to chat on.
However, most of this is opinion. I'm going miss seeing you guys there, and hope you'll come back, but the chat, I hope, is here to stay.

When I said new, I meant just that, brand spanking new. Most of the people I see there, I don't consider "new," they are member who joined this forum earlier in the year and haven't found their place yet. I already knew Perp, Connor, Aidan and Nate because I took the time to get to know them, however I do agree the Chat is very good at showing people that the Mods are really fun people and not just some automated law robots.
As for Skyrim being frequently posted in, that isn't a good thing; at this point it's just copy threads. Oblivion has never lulled seeing how it is the latest game and just celebrated its 5th year anniversary.
Vw and I talked about it and we both felt that the community was getting sucked into Chat far too much, instead of having discussion at the individual's pace. Also some of the conversations I was a part of on "moral values and religious views" really were great, but won't be seen by new members thinking of joining in the wonderful community banter
When the novelty wears off, then we'll be back, but right now we have reservations

I see. Well, I respect your decision. It, obviously, is your own choice whether or not to use chat, and I agree that chat is not the place for serious discussion (hence: General Silliness). I, however, don't think the chat will grow any less popular. It will probably continue to be the place for meaningless, mindless discussions - as that is exactly what it is intended for. The Spoon Murderer is the only fairy tale allowed on my chat - you'll have to take your bible preaching someplace else
kidding, of course. No fairy tales. Spoon murderer is scary... and incredibly long winded. Seriously dude... even just a fork...

I've decided to stop using the chat as well, Chaos. It's novelty has worn off, sadly.

In all fairness, while I respect your decision, I think you're all being silly. We've all had great times on the chat, and to be quite frank, it would have been impossible to have them on the Forums. That alone should be reason enough to use it. It's not supposed to take away from the forums, it's supposed to help it, and that's what it's doing. Abandoning it like the Titanic because two people decided it was hurting the chat is quite frankly stupid.

Look, I don't want anybody to follow Chaos or me just because they want to follow a crowd.
If you like the chat, use it. We're not forcing anyone to follow us.
And also, many forums have a chat area or a shoutbox. UESP does not. I assume Daveh did this for a reason.

NightFather. I think you need to let people do their own thing. I get that you are proud of the chat that you made, but not everyone wants to use it. People tried it out, and if they aren't quite feeling it, don't get upset. At least they tried it. People like the forums for their own reason and not everyone wants to, or enjoys, using chat to talk to people they can talk to just as easily on the forums. Calling people silly and stupid is not going to bring them back to the chat.

I'm not getting upset about it, I just don't understand what the big fuss is. But, regardless, we'll miss seeing you guys on it. It'll hopefully be always here, and always used.

It's not that we don't like Chat, far from it, it's addicting to those of us that live off of the craziness, but it takes too much of my attention.
When the typical internet chat humdrum has passed, I'll return, but for now I'm sticking to the forums
