Yeah, it's definitely true that the Alduin battle was a pretty big dissapointment. I think the thing I didn't like about him was that he acted like a NORMAL DRAGON. He had no fancy powers or anything, really. COuldn't he have invisibility powers, or some cool moves such as dive-bombing, or something like that? Killing him was no harder than killing a normal ol' dragon.

Wood Elf: Alduin does have at least one special attack. He calls down an unimpressive meteor storm.

I have another idea - make the battle of whiterun take longer.
I've just spent an hour doing and redoing it because it is so much fun...

I would add choice. And make the battle with Alduin much more badass and tough.

Re: What Would You Change About Skyrim's Main Quest?
The final Battle. I would change a lot about Skyrim's main quest but for now, i will just do the part where you watch the 4 nords kick Alduin's scaley butt.
You breach Sovngarde. You see Alduin devouring souls and you make your way to Tsun. He challenges you as usual. The 4 heros help you clear his fog but Alduin kills them all in one swoop leaving just you and him. Tsun stays out of the fight as he adknowledges the fact that it is Alduin's fate to be ended by your hand. The Sovngarde song stops and the main theme song plays. The fight itself is very hard. Dragonrend is only effective once and is as useful as stabbing him with a sweetroll. Dragonrend just enables him to be killed if possible. He uses every shout against you which are on steroids. He never lands untill you get him to 25% health and becomes even more dangerous due to his melee attacks being very damaging. As well as him still using shouts. He taunts you as well as growing very angry when you weaken him. He says that he will go after Akatosh once he has conquered Mundus.
When you deliever the finishing blow instead of the death he has in the game, a scripted sequence plays. You both shout at the same time. Both shouts are FUS RO DAH. You get sent back and almost into the bottomless pit whereas he is thrown back against the rock and realises that you are the one all dragons fear. You are Akatosh's right hand. You have sent him back to be punished. As his body starts to decompose very slowly and his soul goes towards Akatosh. The NPCs comes out and realise what you have done. They clap and cheer. Tsun says "So it is done, Akatosh has reclaimed Alduin and prehaps i can challenge more worthy souls without that damn dragon eating them" or something that is suitable to his character. He sends you back but as you are being transported back to Mundus, he says "You are welcome here when you fall as you have the true spirit of a Nord" Or if you are a Nord "We shall celebrate the day that you join us and look forward to fighting at your side"
If parthy is still alive, it is the same but Odaving says "So what will you do now? You have fufilled your destiny" You can reply, "I am the Dovahkiin, the one they fear and i will hunt down any dragon that threatens us mortal, er.. no offence" Or "I think i've deserved a break, don't suppose you could give me a lift to the nearest tavern could you" he tells you to walk there. Or "I will find out what my purpose is now that Alduin is dead".
As a result, the Thalmor are hesitate to hunt you down due to fear, dragons will fly away from you if you are nearby unless you attack them. And you may get a free drink at taverns as well as Balgruuf wanting to build a statue in your honour. You can tell him not to as you don't want to make a big fuss out of it. Or let him do it, or tell him to let the citzens of whiterun decide. After 2 ingame months, your statue is built at the west tower. It replaces the burning debris's. Some hostile NPCs will flee if you use a shout saying "He is the Dragonborn!? I'm not fighting him" And so forth. It's probably not the best idea but a lot better then what we currently have. Seriously, that was my destiny? To stand by and just use Dragonrend from time to time. As well as having a dragon battle song play(can't remeber if it plays or just continues with Sovngarde theme) instead of the main theme. The main theme is the song of the Dragonborn and that would have been an ideal time to use it ingame.

Re: What Would You Change About Skyrim's Main Quest?
Prehaps Bethesda should hire me when they start developing the next TES.
Anyway, When you start making your way towards Parthy, 3 powerful dragons will try to stop you due to Alduin figuring out what you are up to. The generic dragon battle song doesn't play but another song called Journey to the timewound plays. It would TES's version of the 4 Kings theme from Dark Souls. The battle would be grueling and each dragon is an ancient dragon who survived the wars by hiding. Each dragon bares scars and heavily damaged wings thus they can't fly that well. In fact, a simple FUS RO DAH is enough to cause them to crash into the side of the mountain or send them flying down it, which gives 2 minutes before it reenters the battle. After you kill 2 of them, the last one flees. He says" YOU ARE TRUELY DOVAHKIIN! THEN IT IS TRUE, AKATOSH HAS DECIDED TO PUNISH ALDUIN! I WILL NOT SUFFER THE SAME FATE". That dragon is encountered again outside of Blackreach but he doesn't engage you in battle.
When you reach the top, the bit with Parthy plays out the same but there is an optional quest. You can ask him to train you in the use of the Thu'um. He sends you to 5 ruins that were built for the training of Thu'um masters during the rebellions. Each ruin requires you to use a certain shout just to gain access. Ruin 1 is for the combat shouts. ruin two, full of ancient traps that can kill you. In fact, you will die if you don't use the become thingy shout at the entrance. And so forth. Each ruin shows signs of decay as well as signs of the Thu'um being used. Such as the combat ruin has burn marks, pillars at an angle, stairs that have been decimated by Unrelenting force and so forth. Once you have done that, your Thu'um is even stronger. He sends you to the ruin of the Dragonborn where it was once used by the dragonborns as a place to plan their attacks but now houses Alduin's ally. He alone killed 40,000 people in battle. It is a test to see if you have mastered the shouts as well as getting rid of Alduin's ally. His shouts are 4 times as strong but is unable to fly due to his wings being ripped to shreds. As a result his melee attacks are very damaging. Has roughly 10,000 HP.(forgot to mention that Alduin would have 100,000 HP when you fight in Sovngarde.) And can summon Dragon Priests as well as levelled Draugr. Once you kill him, your shouts required less time to cool down and you can or have made for you a unique Dragon armour. Which will be the best armour in the game but weighs 190. Just to force you to decide if having the armour is worth it. The no weight perks don't work with it to avoid you having the best armour in the game and still be able to loot 300 pounds. You can name the armour and guards will say, "by shor! That armour, it looks like it could protect you against everything and not even get a scratch." Or "Now that is armour worthy of a Dragon Slayer" as well as "Did the 8(nine) depending on hold) give you that?" and, "I wouldn't want to be the poor sod that is dumb enough to attack you". Dragons would be more vicous towards you and fear can be heard in their shouts when you wear it.
If you fight Alduin with it on, he is very angry and is more aggressive. He insults you, shows anger and even praises you for being able to kill that dragon before saying "Your soul will be the best meal that i have ever eaten"

So what your saying is, you want the devs to make a mechanic that you are told specifically exists to bring down dragons, but then, in the fight your supposed to use it the most, it doesn't work?Thelastdovah wrote: The fight itself is very hard. That's like making a Zelda dungeon all about the chain hook, then having the final boss and everything in his room not use the chain hook, that is bad design exemplified.
Except you cant force a melee character to have to use archery/ranged magic.Thelastdovah wrote: He never lands untill you get him to 25% health and becomes even more dangerous due to his melee attacks being very damaging.
Why would any of that happen again?Thelastdovah wrote: As a result, the Thalmor are hesitate to hunt you down due to fear, dragons will fly away from you if you are nearby unless you attack them. The battle with Alduin takes place in Sovengard, the realm of the dead... the realm were no living people are... so no one on Nirn should know what you did.
Furthermore, the Dragons should, if anything, attack you MORE because they want to beat you and take your place as the strongest Thu'um so they could rule the Dragons.
So where is my dream? It is the continuation of reality. But where is my reality? It is at the end of your dream.

While the armour is a nice idea, it is technically pointless, as there is a max armour cap.

Re: What Would You Change About Skyrim's Main Quest?
I share a lot of Ideas with you, thelastdovah .. however i disagree on most of the Nirn rewards (like the statue, the taverns, and such)
i like your idea for the dragon battle, but making him always fly wouldnt be fair to Melee characters
I think Alduins shouts should be Immensley powerful, and you should be forced to fight him alone, so on those i agree wit ya
im afraid i dont like the armour idea
also, did anyone else notice that Learning dragonrend had no effect on you ? the Greybeards state that whenever you learn a Thuum, you ''take it into your being'' ... and they also said that Dragonrend was a shout ''Forged from Hatred'' ... so ithought that the final twist in the plot would be that the last Dovahkiin was in fact the World Eater ... however i could not think of a way for it to be implemented properly
I agree completely, i felt no connection to any characters other than Parthurnaax, i didnt really care about any of the people involved in the main quest .... also Alduin wasnt really given much personality so i was a bit dissapointed with that as well

CreeperX wrote:- More emotional impact. Though this is pretty much the problem with all of Skyrim. All the choices are mostly illusion since your actions don't really have impact on anything and your interaction with the NPCs is rather shallow as well. I honestly didn't really give a damn about a single character during the MQ. Well, excluding Paarthurnax since he was pretty much the only character who made me really think. I have played several other games where I have grown attached to the characters and really thought about my actions. That sort of emotional impact would be very welcome since it would make the MQ more immersive.

He actually had several that other Dragons didn't have, like raising dead Dragons and Meteor Storm. That second one alone could explain how he ruled Nirn in his current physical form.
Also, he couldn't even be physically harmed without Dragonrend so he was significantly a bigger threat than the normal Dragons.
But still not as epic as MK's writings made him.

I wouldn't change a thing. Now, I could nitpick and criticize this or that, but I played the game to experience the main quest as its developers intended me to.

Well, dragonrend recharges very often, and it also stuns most times, so really it just sort of extended the length of the fight but didnt make it much more difficultPilaf The Defiler wrote:He actually had several that other Dragons didn't have, like raising dead Dragons and Meteor Storm. and his meteor storm isnt really that powerful against the PC or his allies.
But his raising the dead is a reasonable ability, indeed ... i must admit that i overlooked that entirely
what irritated me was how they said that my Thuum was stronger, and yet most dragons have shouts 10 times tougher than mine ... why didnt they make our shouts a little stronger as we levelled or something, i mean you still have to learn all three words to get the full effect, but the effect is amplified by levels
and i would like to say something
Dawnguard had an excellent main Questline

Re: What Would You Change About Skyrim's Main Quest?
The dawnguard questline was just awkward, I should've been able to drag Serana into Fort Dawnguard and impaler her, then clear out Castle Volkihar with my two katanasphilfredobob wrote:I suppose you do have a pointWill Zurmacht wrote:I wouldn't change a thing. Well, dragonrend recharges very often, and it also stuns most times, so really it just sort of extended the length of the fight but didnt make it much more difficultPilaf The Defiler wrote:He actually had several that other Dragons didn't have, like raising dead Dragons and Meteor Storm. That second one alone could explain how he ruled Nirn in his current physical form.
Also, he couldn't even be physically harmed without Dragonrend so he was significantly a bigger threat than the normal Dragons.
But still not as epic as MK's writings made him.
and his meteor storm isnt really that powerful against the PC or his allies.
But his raising the dead is a reasonable ability, indeed ... i must admit that i overlooked that entirely![]()
what irritated me was how they said that my Thuum was stronger, and yet most dragons have shouts 10 times tougher than mine ... why didnt they make our shouts a little stronger as we levelled or something, i mean you still have to learn all three words to get the full effect, but the effect is amplified by levels... and alduin should have had stronger shouts than most dragons ..
and i would like to say something
Dawnguard had an excellent main QuestlineSpoiler:

Omg I would have loved to battle Alduin alone. Someone mentioned that above...would have been great. What would have been cool too is if I could have taken his head home as a trophy, mount it right above the hearth to impress all my friends.

Might as well have, since I did the quest at level 60, they were no help anyway.

Re: What Would You Change About Skyrim's Main Quest?
I don't think their help was needed in the first place. I found having others there made me feel like a "just anyone" when um...was the Dragonborn not meant to defeat Alduin? Took away from the experience.
