Re: Frontier: Vvardenfell
"See you on the other side," He said, as they walked into the ruin. It was darky and ashy inside - like it had been untouched for years. "Find the most defenseable position, and we'll find you after we're sure it's safe. "C'mon," He said, gesturing to the rest of the scouting party. "We ought to get started. Qa'Mhirr, you're up front. If you see anything, don't be a hero - come back, and we'll handle it together. We're a lot stronger as three than on our own."

Re: Frontier: Vvardenfell
"Go where you're comfortable then," Leiden said. "But if something comes up behind you, don't come running my way" He laughed. The fort looked dead inside - only accentuated by the skeletons around the place. It was entirely abandoned, and everyone inside dead. But they were already deep inside - the place was still lit up by torches - fresh torches. They weren't alone here...

"Torches..." Llarays muttered, looking closer at them. He waved them off, not giving a second glance. "Meh. I'll be turned the opposite way we're going so that nothing sneaks up on us."

"This one was hoping for less light," Qa'Mhirr whispered over his shoulder, he let his crossbow hang at his side and set one of the spider fang bolts in the grove, but didn't cock the string.
The dagi-raht's whiskers and large ears were perked forward, "This place smells of dust and death, what did your people keep in these places?" he quietly questioned the two Dunmer behind him.

Thoryn turned to Night-Runner and withdrew a small hunting knife from a sheath concealed within his greaves. "Just watch yourself," he said, "for you will not catch me unaware again." Then he turned to Veriax and smiled, "lead on my friend."

Re: Frontier: Vvardenfell
"Thank you" Night runner said to Thoryn. He began busying him self collecting up bits of musty tinder, old support beams and the fragments of a smashed in door. They were covered in a thick layer of ash and dust and some were buried deep under piles of the stuff, almost as if they were concealed by drifts of dusty brown snow.
Night-Runner quickly realized he had picked up all of the pieces he could see, there wasn't much wood that hadn't been buried. he waded deeper and deeper, having to feel with his hands. He was just about to return to the others with the huge pile of wood he had collected, when his foot caught on something beneath him. He fell face-first into a pile of ash 2 feet deep. His carefully collected wood flying in all directions.
He cursed under his breath and felt down under the Ash to see what had tripped him. It was a large heavy object, cold and round, almost like a giant dinner plate. When he pulled it from the ash and looked at it he was surprised. It was a large bonemould shield, roughly circular in shape it was banded with engraved silver and in the centre, made from what appeared to be rubies was the symbol of the Dunmer house Redoran.
"Well, this is interesting" Night-Runner thought to himself, as he gathered up his timber and began to head back to the others.

Re: Frontier: Vvardenfell
Leiden walked on through the ruin, ever aware. He lifted a finger to his mouth - quiet. Between the grates in the floor, he heard scuttering. He drew his sword, and dropped down onto his knees, looking inside. He saw nothing but shadow. "Must have been the wind..." He muttered, and walked on.
But it wasn't. All the way through, there was scuttering, and more scuttering. Like spiders... only not spiders. It sounded metallic... clanging... a glint of gold ran by through one of them. "Be on your guard." He said. They began to pick up pace, as the noises grew louder and louder, and the clattering grew closer and closer. They were all in one bundle now. "Watch out!" He yelled, as they spun around into a defensive position. And then... nothing. The clattering stopped.
From behind, Leiden felt the sharp stab of a blade. It dug deep into his leg, and crying out, he fell to the ground. He span around to see.. a metal man. With a metal sphere at it's base. What demon was this? This was no Daedra. It was Dwemer! "We're under attack!" He said. Scuttling across the floor were spider-like beings, but also metal. In their expressionless bodies lay only cold, hard death.
Meanwhile, the group back at the fortifications began to hear the same scuttling - it was as if the whole building was alive. The spider-like beings began to crawl up from the floor, more numerous than anything they had faced before.

Spoiler:
A short moment of worry crossed his mind as he prayed that his spider fang bolts were up to the task of taking down their metal enemies, he aimed and fired at the Sphere.
The bolt glanced off the its chassis and jammed into the bladearm's shoulder joint, preventing a second lunge; he heard the telltale clanking of metal behind him.
Qa'Mhirr ran to Leiden, earning a scratch across his back from his assailant from behind.

Re: Frontier: Vvardenfell
Spoiler:
Thoryn watched as numerous Dwemer Spiders swarmed the area from all directions, his eyes still adjusting to the gloom, his ears filled with the cluttering and clanking of their metallic legs he drew his sword, swinging at the nearest approaching Spider and shouting out to his companions to warn them. The Spider was sent flying as his blade struck it, rendering a sizeable gash in its side and knocking it away. Before Thoryn had time to draw breath, already another was upon him, and he was forced to swing wildly at it, sending it flying a short distance until it smashed against the near wall. He inhaled deeply, looking around in an attempt to gather his bearings and discern the whereabouts of Veriax and Night-Runner, as ever more of the Dwemer foes bore down upon him.

Re: Frontier: Vvardenfell
Night-Runner pricked up his ears at Thoryns shout. He stood perfectly still, listening. It wasn't until he heard the clang of metal on metal that he dropped his sticks and began to run. When he came upon his two Dunmer companions he found them surrounded by large metal spiders. He suddenly realised the only thing he had left in his hands was the shield.
Night-Runner gripped the shield in two hands and brought the edge down upon the spider closest to him. The force of the blow cracked the chassis and the tip of the shield bit deep into the machinery beneath. He felt the life go out of the creature instantly and the red crystal, that had been shining so brightly before, went dim.
Two of the other monsters turned towards him and he tried to ready himself for a second blow but his shield was lodged in the body of the dead machine. He let go of it and reached down into his boot to pull out his concealed skinning knife. Grimacing he started forward, ready to take on another beast.

"We should wrap it up," suggested Llarays. He readied a healing spell. Murmuring a few words, he moved his hands around and then cast it. Sadly, it did not work.

Qa'Mhirr tore off a long strip of excess cloth from his tunic, taking a small patch, licking it, and pressing it against the scratch on his back; tucking underneath the new hole in his clothes.
walking back over to Leiden, he offered the rest to the Dunmer, "Khajiit wonders if our new temple friend knows some healing tricks."
