Re: Khajiit species and moons
Slightly offtopic, but I do think Pilaf is onto something with the reference to Lorkhan, the greatest enemy of the Aldmer, at least in my eyes. The Mer really hate him, he tricked their Hero-God Auri-El into creating Nirn and he aided the Men in their ascension, which did lead to the end of the Era of Mer. Talos, as a Shezarrine, would appear to be hated almost as equally.
Anyway, back to the Khajiit, although I've never seen it in Lore, Ralok does raise a point, how does an Alfiq bear a Senche-raht? Or are we to believe that Khajiit are born highly under-developed and that a Senche-raht will grow from a small kitten to something twice the size of an Altmer with a weight potentially as great as fifty?

Which I can buy on a fantasy scale, but on a biological one doesn't really have me convinced. I mean, how much is that thing going to have to eat before it matures!
But I digress.

'bout as much as any large can, eh wot. Plenty of game out there in the sands, and he'll have a big family to keep him fed.

Re: Khajiit species and moons
We are talking something much larger than any big Cat here, more like a small tank if anything, and it is said that the under the ja'Kha'jay a Khajiit's future form becomes clear only a few weeks. I know Khajiit mature much faster than Men races, but even so.
Which brings us back to another issue with the Lattice, why is it that only Suthay-raht are found in Cyrodiil and Morrowind? Does the Lattice only have an affected on Khajiit in Elsweyr?

this is a big stretch but it seems the Khajiit sub species are similar to the races around them maybe??
the Ohmes, who are shorter then Suthay-raht being present in Daggerfall, where the dominant race are Bretons, who are quite short.
and the Suthay-raht being prevolent in other games where they are closer to the height of Dunmer and Imperials.
idk just a thought

They're better adapted to the manual labor Dunmer have them do. Same reason that the Daggerfall area has more human looking ones, which are better for court politics and blending in. Here's GT Noonan on the issue:OblivionDuruza wrote:Which brings us back to another issue with the Lattice, why is it that only Suthay-raht are found in Cyrodiil and Morrowind? But really it's just a gameplay thing. Animating is a ton of work, and creating a dozen of Khajiiti variants is a far too much work for little payoff. Maybe once we get a game set in Elsweyr or Valenwood, where Khajiit are more important. The closer you get to their homelands, the more wild they may appear. Though wild looking, this does not mean they are more primitive thinkers. ....
Also, another point to be taken is that since Dark Elves use Khajiit and Argonian slaves, the nature of these slaves is most likely to be more Kitty-like, or primitive. There are reasons for the look, so dont think that it was just a snap decision.

regarding the moons, is it ever directly stated that they are the flesh of Lorkhan? or is it more implied that it is?

Re: Khajiit species and moons
Lady Nerevar, I was sort of wondering why the Khajiit in other provinces don't reproduce to produce other subspieces, but thanks for the link. That definitely seems like the best Lore explanation we're going to get. Bethesda did invent the entire Lattice to explain the change in the race from Arena to present. A nice piece of Lore borne of a game change I'll say.

I dont see why the even botherd explaining the change. Thier idea of the Khajiit simpley changed between the games nad maybe the technology at the time of arena didnt support beastfolk like we know them. Thats all the explanation we need. And whats there explanation for the Argonians??

Re: Khajiit species and moons
The Argonians are known to have many different subspecies from toad-like creatures to the lizard-folk we know them as. guess that's the explanation.

Re: Khajiit species and moons
Lunar Lorkhan seems as convincing or more so than some sources we have. In fact, it's got two things going for it.
1- Nothing directly contradicts its claims.
2 - It's been in three games now, from Morrowind on up. So it's been an uncontested lore claim for roughly ten years now.

Re: Khajiit species and moons
didn't want to make a new thread so i'll ask here,
do khajiit have mating seasons so that kids are similar to their parents? otherwise wouldn't the khajiit in morrowind/ oblivion sometimes have kids that end up being the REALLY different ones (like the quadrupedal ones)?

That's what I like to think, as certain subspecies are said to live in certain areas like the Tenmar with Dagi/Dagi-raht

I have a question. What exactly caused the void nights? It almost sounds as if sithis had something to do with it just by the name but that would be silly.

We don't know anything about it other than the name and that the Thalmor were hailed by the Khajiit for stopping it supposedly, following that the province split into its two old states, both client states of the Aldmeri Dominion

I think the answer to the issue of only some Khajiit appearing outside of Elsweyr is that only the bipedal varieties are capable of mastering the common tongue, and so it is difficult for the others to make their way in the world.

Right. I believe the two Keyes novels point that out, too, but they can understand Cyrodillic well enough because Attrebus is warned against talking too much about their physical appearance around them for his own health.Gideon Dragontongue wrote:I think the answer to the issue of only some Khajiit appearing outside of Elsweyr is that only the bipedal varieties are capable of mastering the common tongue, and so it is difficult for the others to make their way in the world.

Some interesting Khajiits were the ones from Arena. They were werecats (kinda). Not a beast race.
