Re: Companions
From what I read on the Wiki, Mjoll the Lioness seems to be one of the best warrior types.

Re: Companions
I like Faendal better than Lydia, mostly because of how the majority of my characters are not nords or imperials. He seemed out of place in riverwood, and he seems to have more commentary.

I take some of the words back. I had some fierce fights and I am about 80% sure I didn't hit my companion, but he was still dead after the fight.MaKo wrote: I merely agree, although I tend to make things alone, as using unkillable companions make me feel like cheating.

Re: Companions
I was going to say that my companions have died on my several times. Especially the stray dog companion; that poor guy doesn't last very long at all in a distance battle against magic users or archers.MaKo wrote:I take some of the words back. Companions are tough to kill, but they definitely do die on you in tough battles.

Re: Companions
The companions are cool. I've used Lydia and a priest, but mostly Lydia. She's almost always with me. I need to branch out more. There are a few more interesting companions.

Re: Companions
I've gone with Sven (dead), Lydia (didn't like her attitude
) Erik the Slayer (retired, sorta), and I have J'zargo right now. He's a total boss.

Re: Companions
I only have used lydia and Derktheesus (sp?) Both have been very helpful. I'm a pure mage so I need a sword around to help

Re: Companions
I started to wonder, why in some battles the companions are unkillable and in some battles they are killed. My current theory is this: when a follower gets down their knees, the enemies stop slashing them and concentrate on you, and that's why they usually survive. But if there is "magic in the air", e.g. enchanted weapons or other things that cause extra damage (bleeding, burning), follower get killed even thought enemies leave them alone, or the follower dies to a powerful slash before s/he drops to her/his knees. Anyways, it seems that you can't take your follower to too hard fight, at least without preparation.Logius wrote: I was going to say that my companions have died on my several times.

Re: Companions
I only used Lydia, onmund from the college and Brelyna whatshername from the college.
Lydia is helpful, she's pretty strong... And she gives you money if she dies
Onmund is an idiot. I took him to the quest in the labyrinthian... Forget about him, don't even bother.
Brelyna is cool, but I married her and she vanished =/

Re: Companions
LOL, I married that blacksmith Balimund and used the addtofaction console command to have him follow me around. He is a horrible fighter, gets taken out quick. I was using Stenvar as a hireling and that guy is tough as they come. And a wiseass too.

Re: Companions
A few of the things talked about here are dealt with in the official guide book, up to a point. It seems to hint that only YOU can kill your companion (accidentally, via a misplaced shot or whatever) although I'm interested in the suggestion on this thread that an area spell, for instance, might do them in. The guide suggests that companions do level with you, even when they're not with you, and even when you have a different companion at that time. It also mentions that they have an (invisible) carrying limit. Hope this info is useful to someone.
Question: is using the "we should part ways" dialogue option the best way to TEMPORARILY dismiss a companion on friendly terms? I don't want to offend my new friend or terminate our relationship: I might just not want them on a particular mission.
Thanks in advance for any advice: forgive any typos - using phone in bed with a migraine (zero hours played today!)

'We should part ways' will make them go back to where you found them. You can go back and pick them up at a later date afterwards.

Re: Companions
I used Lydia and Eola. Eola is really nifty: she has some pretty hefty fire spells.

Re: Companions
Spoiler:
I tend to be a stealth/archer most of the time, so companions would usually just get in my way.

Re: Companions
I use Aranea Ienith, mostly. I have her decked out with full Elvn, with an enchanted Elven sword, a shield, a bow, a buckload of arrows, and a variety of staffs. It seems every time she sees an enemy, she attacks with a different combo of sword, staff and spell. Yet to see her use the bow.
Whenever I see a dragon, Aranea is tossing up some major flak. At night, the fireballs arcing up into the sky and intercepting the malevolent Blood Dragon, wreathing it in fire, gives me a warm feeling. For Azura!
I wish I could marry her.

Re: Companions
Any suggestions for a companion who is good at stealth? I like what Lydia brings to the table in general, except that I tend to open the fight in sneak mode, and well, she tends to open the fight for me. I like the fact that she's a strong combatant that will whip out a bow. I haven't completed the companions line, but I have had Aela join me briefly; she's probably my best bet, but she's noticeably weaker in close quarters.
