"That's actually a pretty good question." Valentin said. "Why us? Why eight random people from Empire City?"
"Uhh...Shut up, Beavis!"

"Let me guess this is a suicide mission. You want us because nobody here cares if we come back or not." Gladro said in an irritated tone.
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

"Do you know how many mortals remain alive today?" Sanchez asked. "Less than 3,000,000! Every form of mortal life is valued. We do care about your survival...more than anything!" The General then smiled. "And I will assure you that none of you were chosen at random. I will show you what I mean when your training is over in a year. You must wait, yes. But you will understand when I show you." He paused. "Any other questions?"

"But why take the time to train a bunch of strangers to kill the Three?" Ashriel asked, angered. "And not train your already elite soldiers like those who picked us up?! This whole thing seems suspicious."

"Of course the Three notices!" Sanchez explained. "They come through every form of land and sea on this planet, searching for us! But our charms have kept us safe...so far. Each of you must understand that there is a prochecy...a prochecy that each of you are part of. The old God within you - each and every one of you."

"The Old God?" Ashriel asked, curious. His father was a very religious man so Ashriel knew a lot about the deity.

"If you're withholding this so called prophecy from us, I'm not sure I want to do what you say frankly. It could mean anything. Who gave this prophecy?" Ashriel continued.

"I know a prophecy. I come from one of the last Frost Elf settlements in the world; we had magic. We had actual prophecies."

"Oh, you had magic?" Sanchez asked Ashriel sarcastically. "Isn't that sweet?"

The General then snapped his fingers. Without question, each of his soldiers raised their hands and each summoned a large, angry looking dog. "We are able to use magic as well, Frost Elf." said the General. "What my soldiers just did was only a small taste of our power. You will be trained. And on your last day of training, you shall be told of the prophecy." He turned to the others. "Now, your training will begin within the next half hour. Please exit through the door and head to the front of the villa. Your trainers await you there."
Spoiler:
We're about to do a one year time jump! Once all of you go through the door, we'll skip ahead a year. Then the action shall begin! :D

Gladro headed out the door and towards the front of the villa. He hoped he was ready for what the future had to throw at him.

Valentin slowly stood and made his way to the door. "This place is messed up." he said to himself as he walked to the villa.

Aarys followed the others, still awestruck at the show of magic. Hard to believe that everyone could do that, she thought, remembering the stories her grandfather had told her about their life in a forest town; before the invasion. Now, that's something worth fighting for...

Peter, more interested in expanding his skill with firearms than in mastering the use of magic, headed through the open doorway while quietly contemplating imagined images of revenge, rebellion and an eventual peace.

Laeriel gradually rose off her bed and looked around the room. She still had to reassure herself that everything was real, that the world around her wasn't some drug-induced fantasy or a particularly cruel dream. Rubbing her forearm with her hand, she yawned softly, trailing behind the others towards the door.

"New beginnings always feel so strange," she murmured to herself, running a few fingers through her unkempt hair. After a moment, the elf shook her head and stepped through the door, as ready as she ever could be.
