Just saying is all... dude had a sword.dragonfett wrote:The same could be said for the sword as well. ByKrom had mentioned that Gandalf had a sword in response to tikki50 saying that any one who wants to REALLY play mages to put down the sword to free up their hands. I only mentioned the staff aspect because of the fact that magic may work differently in Tolkien's world than in Tamriel.

Hmmm don't think this is exactly what happens in the book (though its a long while since I last read it). Having said that I think the movies were so well done they are pretty much considered lore too so.....I was obviously wrong here!
sorry! Thanks for the correction!

I once again have to insist that Tolkien has nothing in common with ES. Gandalf isn't human. He is a maia. His magic has nothing to do with shooting fireballs and conjuring daedra.

Honestly, I may be mistaken as far as the book is concerned. I admit I was envisioning the scene from the movie. Either way, I was simply trying to establish the legitimacy of wizards wielding swords, magic aside.
Maybe he just has a really low conjuration skill?mars wrote:I once again have to insist that Tolkien has nothing in common with ES. Gandalf isn't human. He is a maia. His magic has nothing to do with shooting fireballs and conjuring daedra.

Re: Which dual-wield option would you want to play the most?
If that were the case, he must have a really high Alteration skill because he was flinging Saruman around like it was nothing (in the movie at least). I honestly don't ever remember actually reading in the books him casting any flashy spells like Fireball or anything. There were a couple of times where he caused a shaft of white light to protect someone or something like that (IIRC), but I honestly don't think flashy spells were his thing. I'm not saying that he couldn't, just that he didn't.

Re: Which dual-wield option would you want to play the most?
I'm a bit confused about the bow usage.
Bethesda only revealed the passing of the dagger to the stealth skills, but nothing on marksman.
Will it work as a two-handed? And what about the usage of non-aggressive spells? Do I need a free hand to cast invisibility spell?
I hope they dont forget about us sneaky b****** xD

this kind of implies that bows (or at least some of them - could have long bows?) are two handed.Naturally two handed weapons do exist, at which point the left trigger may, for example, block with a broadsword or allow you to aim with a bow

From the way Todd Howard was talking in the podcast, they will have their own skill.

Re: Which dual-wield option would you want to play the most?
I do have to say that the magic in the Lord of the Rings is a bit less "hands on" as the magic in the Elder Scrolls is.
Also, back on topic, I would rather have a weapon in one hand and a spell (or staff) in the other.

Re: Which dual-wield option would you want to play the most?
I always thought it would be cool to have a hand-and-a-half style.
Could use your off hand for (wishful thinking) grapples, punches, grabbing objects (hmm stealing anyone?) holding a torch, shield, or spells. I like being a jack of all trades and the possibilities are endless.
Being attacked by a ogre? Whip out all that rat meat you have hoarded and chuck it over there! Fetch you giant beast of grey lard! Fetch!
And then when all @#$% breaks loose you put that little hand of yours around the handle and swing like no tomorrow
If I could only choose one though, it'd definitely be weapon/spell, most mileage I think

I'm kinda sad now that there might not be any hand to hand :/

I want to have a theif bosmer with a dagger in one hand and have the other hand empty for stunning.
But that might not happen.
