I wonder if you'll be penalized for using magic with a 2 handed weapon

I'll let all of you know this right from the start— I haven't read any online articles, seen any of the interviews, or bought any of the magazines featuring stories on the upcoming game...
...they're still going to have bows in Skyrim, no?

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Yes. Supposedly they'll be slower but much more powerful, but I don't think you can duel-wield a bowDark Spark wrote:I'll let all of you know this right from the start— I haven't read any online articles, seen any of the interviews, or bought any of the magazines featuring stories on the upcoming game...

Well, I could. But it'd look silly with me lying on my back, both feet set against two bowstaves, with arrows nocked back in each hand.Dlarsh wrote:...I don't think you can duel-wield a bow

Another question arises though; while I'm sure h2h will be included, does anyone have any thoughts on its implementation with duel-wielding?

But how would you reload? Although, if Akavir will be involved, maybe there'll be repeating crossbow crossbow crossbows.JockoBeans wrote:Not if you aare using crossbowsDlarsh wrote:Dark Spark wrote:Yes. Supposedly they'll be slower but much more powerful, but I don't think you can duel-wield a bow

Tap right trigger: Right jab (quick, but weak)
Tap left trigger: Left hook (stronger, slower, with a chance to bypass a block)
Hold right trigger: Right cross (slowest, but hardest-hitting)
Hold both triggers: Block
Hold left trigger: Grapple (chance to immobilize target temporarily, allowing you to jab with the right rapidly)

What would the bumpers be for, then? And how to implement it on a PC?Dark Spark wrote:My idea?Dlarsh wrote: ...Another question arises though; while I'm sure h2h will be included, does anyone have any thoughts on its implementation with duel-wielding?

How would I know? I haven't read a thing about the game, so I'd most likely fail at designing it.

Re: Which dual-wield option would you want to play the most?
Actually, there is nothing in the gameinformer article's section on combat (page 50) which implies that you can use spells if you don't have a free hand. From how I read it, you appear to have to have a free hand to designate for casting. However, if you have two free hands, it states that you can "combine the spell to extraordinary effect". Sounds like spell casters with no weapons will be more effective casters. All of this actually sounds like a step in the right direction, IMO. I like it alot.Dean wrote:True, it did. Hopefully it will be a bit more...speedy, then the momentous amount of time it took to switch between sword and spell.
It could be something simple like spells are more effective with a free hand. That would work nicely I think.
Edit:
Oh and basically, my character will be using several different combinations, very likely:
1. Spell and Dagger (for my illusion spells to screw with my opponent's head before I stab him in the back
2. Dual swords or daggers (depending on how I feel, but it will be dual daggers most of the time to satisfy the rogue/assassin in me)
3. Two handed swords (mainly thinner ones, such as dai-katana's for speedily dispatching foes when I'm surrounded, or heavily outnumbered.

Hopefully we can dual-wield repeater crossbows. Otherwise, I want to have a crosswbow in one hand and a shortsword in the other. Badass.

Re: Which dual-wield option would you want to play the most?
longsword in the right hand and a reverse grip shortsword in the left
I.e. the longsword is held normally but the shortsword is held with the blade pointing down.

Re: Which dual-wield option would you want to play the most?
I start out with longsword and shield. But it sounds like you switch between set ups quickly and intuitively, so I'd be ready to drop the shield and go for a spell or pull a reverse short sword.

None of the above. Shield / Shield is where it's at. Just gradually walk towards enemies shrugging off their attacks only to stick the shield in their throat, for a measly -6 HP. Still, it'd be worth it.

Does the Dragonborn have an off-hand with a penalty like the PC does in the KotOR games or does it not matter which hand you use for what?
Ah ha ha ha. Oh, no. Magic is no laughing matter. I am always deadly serious.

Re: Which dual-wield option would you want to play the most?
Well, give it a short stun and a scaling damage component, and it could be beast. Smiters were one of the wonkiest and unbalanced builds in Diablo II, and were for a long time, if they aren't still, one of the only characters capable of soloing the Ubers.PinballWizard wrote:None of the above. You just know you're going to have to try out every single possible combination. I know I will!
