Tip concerning improving magicka

Post by Guest (for now) »

Am I just plain stupid, or what? It took me some time, like playing Morrowind for the 4th time, but NOW I realise why some spells do not work but after considerable playtime. I thought: I bought it, it has to work; I bought it for a considerable amount of money after all, did't I?
My amount of magicka was just not enough to make it work, and there was no trainer in all Morrowind to improve it. Now what?
Magicka has to do with intelligence. Train skills that governs intelligence, even if you think you don't need the skill itself. Every improvement in intelligence improves your amount of magicka, so if you make it to the next level: as many point as possible for intelligence!
It is a pity I found that out after such a long time. So I end with the beginning: am I just plain stupid or what?

But the maximum you can get normally is 104. I suggest either the Mantle of Woe or Alchemy Exploits.

Don't feel stupid, it took me a long time to figure out when I first began that my spell points couldn't exceed my magicka points. I always wondered why I couldn't cast it but I had the ability to create a strong spell.

Thanks. Maybe I am not that stupid after all.
Do you want to know what else I found out in the meantime?
If you don't purchase a spell first, (for example, restore fatigue) you don't get the opportunity to enchant an item by an enchanter for a constant effect of that spell. You just don't get the choice to do so.
I purchased the spell Stamina first, took a exquisite ring, made sure I had a soulgem of 800000 to create a constant effect, rushed to a enchanter, paid a LOT of money (I had lots of it anyway) and all my worries about the annoying beiing tired and soforth not beiing able to perform were over.
I know, I should develop my ability to enchant myself, but eh... after spoiling one valuable gem after another I gave up

raise intelligence incredibly high with potions to enchant on your own.

oh and you dont' need an exquisite ring for stamina. i think some clothes will do. and they only need slight enchantment. like 1-7 pts constant effect. then you just equip reequip until oyu get 5 or 6 points and bam you have the "never get's tired clothes". there are plenty good rings out there and it would be a shame to spend the one spot on the finger for stamina ring.

If you're going to potion up your Intelligence, you might as well potion up your Fatigue/Fatigue Recovery, too.

You are right of course, it's just for a startout, when just running already takes so much of your fatigue that one has to stop or walk so slow every minute; THAT tires me. Later, when you need your fingers for other rings, you can enchant clothes, that will be enough.

Well, no, that is just for a limited time of recovery; I wanted a constant effect. If I potion up my intelligence for a limited time, I am able to enchant more succesfully during that time and quickly create a constant effect with a large gem. That's what Gregor is telling me I guess. But, in the beginning of the game even the strongest potion will not be strong enough to boost a low intelligence enough to enchant sucessfully, without failing and destroy a valuable gem.

You keep remaking.....make alchemy a major skill then start buying intelligence potions ingredients. Make as many as you can, sell half of the ones you make and chug the rest, Repeat. A lvl 3 nord with 8 million intelligence.....took 3 weeks to go back to normal...=)

yah well actually only a small enchantment will do. that's why clothes is enough. the thing is that if ouo get back 5 or 6 points it's more than enough. so a) this enchanting is much cheaper (constant effect) and b) it doens't take up muchspace that can be better used with other enchantments. i think we had a post on this forum about this.

Now if you take along the fact that you get cheap, eas,y and fast increase intelligence up to 10000, all you need a a couple of soulgems filled with good souls some shirt/trousers and maybe belt. now all you need is a spell for reduction of fatigue and you can make your own constant effect fatigue removing clothes very cheap.

i didn't know that before. but once i tried with my shirt and belt... i never get tired anymore running arround. cause the fatigue always resupplies before i can use it all. even if i do a fight.

you also hit more often if you go in battle "rested" like that. :D

If you can get Golden Saints in Grand Soul Gems, you really ought to be able to get some mega potions. Potions are much easier to make, buy, sell, and amp up than enchantments are. The effects can also be much stronger than CE effects.

OK but here is a question that just came to my mind. if you raise intelligence for 1000 points and let's say you have a spell that does 100 damage in 100 ft. does that spell get also stronger/amplified? and does it get bigger radious? anyone tried this?

if so there could be a nuke falling down in Morrrowind soon :D

There are mods to give you bonuses for high intelligence and willpower, but normally, no.
You would have to create an über spell and raise your intelligence so you can cast it.

It's not stronger or amplified, but you will probably have the Magicka reserves to cast it more than once. Boost your Willpower and Luck and you might even succeed when you try to cast it.

Luck is a something I always ignored in improvement. At the end, when everything else is 100, except luck, I start raising it. Am I wrong in doing that? I started at 40 this time, and it's still 40. It's never like x5 or something, or even x2. Tell me why I should ignore x5, x 4, x 3 in important issues, in favour of 1 point of luck! What does luck accomplish?

luck affects everything in some way or another. It increases your chance of picking a lock...casting a spell....and the like

You should take Luck as a starting attribute. You'll get 10 points to start. If you want to boost your base luck, that's the best place to start.

However, when I talk about luck boosting to cast mega-spells, I'm talking about potions, baby!

That's because no Skill has Luck as a Governing Attribute. I find luck quite useful, made my 30% Reflect much more often than that.
