Re: Fallout 4
Two Worlds 2 was definitely the product of incompetence. I remember that game as being hilariously bad, and nothing else. The thing about consoles is that you can tell exactly how well it can run a game, and adjust its presets accordingly. There's no reason to ship the ultra high resolution textures with the console version of the game if the console can't run it, that's why Skyrim gave PC users the option to download them for free, but not the console users.
Bethesda has stated they would like to be able to bring mods to the console users, though, they just need to find a way they can do it. Console overlords aren't exactly the most agreeable people to an open platform. I remember reading them talk about how they would like to be able to sell the most popular and best mods on the console once, but considering the reaction to mods being made for sale last time, that's unlikely to happen now.

Re: Fallout 4
There's kinda a big difference between custom missions and Mods. For custom missions, it's just messing around with what Rockstar has made available online. With Fallout, mods tend to go from texture changes to entire campaigns.
I can see both Sony and Microsoft wanting to control mods on their networks and i am hoping Microsoft won't try to hide mods behind their gold service. That said, i don't really know much about XBLG so this could be an invalid point.
I really hope that we can dye our Power Armour as i kinda would want to do the fallout version of Iron Man. And yes, i would play Black Sabbath's Iron Man whilst killing raiders.

Re: Fallout 4
I hadn't actually thought about it but having a voiced protagonist is going to impact mods too. You won't be able to mod in much needed dialogue options for the player character like "Two Bears High-Fiving" without it being a different voice actor saying the lines which would make it weird. That's sure to impact people making custom quest mods. Okay not everyone voices their quest mods but some people do.

I'm sure they're gonna add in default "8 seconds of silence" for custom dialogue.

Mods will be made regardless, it's just a trade off that comes with voice acting. Also I've heard Fallout 4 will have romances in some form. Hopefully they're fleshed out and well done instead of Skyrim where your spouse acts like they're in Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Re: Fallout 4
I am all for romances, as long as they aren't cardboard cutouts like Skyrim, yeah. One sidequest, or--sometimes, not even--and bam. "Are you interested in me?" --I'm all for the roleplaying of it, too. You start with a wedding ring, so I'm going to wear the [&@%!] out of it. Hold off on any possible NPC romances for awhile. If you can reduce it to craft components, I'd eventually, probably, make it into a bullet, and kill the BBEG with it. I kill Benny with the 9mm pistol, with a headshot. Or, I didn't even previously think, of disarming him, and killing him with a headshot from Maria.
Also, ransacking the remains of (your) old house, and crafting whatever junk is in there into a weapon with which to kill tons of [&@%!]. Sentiment is a big part of my roleplaying. Fallout 3, I kept the starting jumpsuit, the baseball bat (and cap and glove), bb gun, etc etc.
Yeah, Kerr, don't sweat it. I was eagerly waiting for Fallout Shelter for 'droid, and it launched, and it's...kinda meh.

Fallout Shelter needs a lot of work. It's easily far superior to most mobile games out there, but that's not saying much.

Re: Fallout 4
At the risk of sound negative, i doubt Bethesda's romances in Fallout 4 will be any good due to them, well, they're kinda [&@%!] at doing them judging by Skyrim. Granted, i am being very unfair by using one game but hopefully, their writing will have improved and it's no longer "I love you." "I love you wife number 9. We will now have sexual intercourse in fade to black." I do think that the forced marriage will be part of the main quest and that, i don't really agree with due to it kinda restricting RPing for me. There's already a background and it does limit what i could do beyond head cannoning. However, i am hoping that because Fallout 4 is rated 18 in the UK, they will try to be mature about it and have actual romance scenes.
I do hope that our house will play a bit of an important role in the begining along with actually allowing us to use it as player housing for free. I really hope that any wives/husbands are not subject to going from being able to wipe the floor with your enemies to "Oh save me, oh save me." as that was just annoying in Skyrim.

Re: Fallout 4
And yet people complain that with the breadth of roleplaying opportunity comes a loss of story and story cohesion. I think it's perfectly fine, and even good, that they have at least one Fallout game--and ideally even one future Elder Scrolls game--with a little more certainty to the character. There is still a massive amount of room for roleplaying and making the character your own. Maybe he/she realizes it was actually a miserable marriage, and moves on. Maybe you don't care about it and just pretend it never happened. Maybe you actually like it, and incorporate it into character drama and something to consider with future NPC interactions.
As far as limitations go, it's very very minor. It's always good to have *something* plotwise, anchoring a character to the world--otherwise, why the hell don't they just wander off the map and out of the game?

Re: Fallout 4
True but for me, i'm kinda used to blank background PCs in Bethesda games. Granted, the LW was awful for RPing in my opinion due to the forced "ye'r a teenager harry." angle. I do hope that the Survivor will not be limited to the 20-40 age range due to the voice actors and if they do limit the age range, it's for the character of the Survivor. Also, i am wondering if we will have battle cries and if it's possible for a set personality to develop. E.g. An aggressive PC will flat out insult things before trying to kill them whilst a smart ass will be a smart ass.

Re: Fallout 4
It's going to add an interesting mix into the roleplaying for sure. I'm looking forward to this aspect of the game, actually. In the grand scheme of things, it will probably matter very little and as of right now, we have no idea exactly how all of this plays out. Bethesda knows the kind of people that buy their games and I have high hopes that they'll honor that. And if not, I'll play the game anyway because it's Fallout and it's going to be awesome. Can't wait!Baloth-Kul wrote: I think it's perfectly fine, and even good, that they have at least one Fallout game--and ideally even one future Elder Scrolls game--with a little more certainty to the character.

Re: Fallout 4
I don't mind the limitation. The problem is that Bethesda is not really known for their quality writing and many people play their games for the exploration aspect and to be able to roleplay any type of character. With the Lone Wanderer it was quite annoying how people kept calling you a 'kid' and Oblivion was great precisely because you could be any race, any age, and then pretend that you're a merchant or archer or whatever you liked.Baloth-Kul wrote:And yet people complain that with the breadth of roleplaying opportunity comes a loss of story and story cohesion. A limited protagonist can work. Take a game like Planescape: Torment (hope you've played it, it's amazing). Many people consider it to be the greatest RPG of all-time and certainly the game with the best writing. You should try it, it's on a whole different level than most games nowadays. Only Obsidian manages to come near it in terms of writing.
Anyway, in Planescape you are stuck with a male protagonist and during the main story you'll learn more about his background. Most of his history, traits etc. is set in stone. Yet I consider this to be a better roleplaying game than, for instance, Skyrim. Roleplaying (to me) is not about the choice to become any kind of character. What is much more important is being able to immerse yourself in a character and then interact with and influence the characters and the world around you. That's one of the biggest flaws of Bethesda games (imo), you never really make much of an impact on the world/characters. Sometimes it feels like their game worlds are a theme park, all the people and locations are there to entertain you but you can never change them in a meaningful way.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Bethesda games are bad. They just cater to a different audience and that's why I'm not sure if this choice to have a voiced protagonist is a good one. Bethesda is good at creating interesting worlds that you want to explore. You shouldn't ask too many questions (like: where are the farms or water sources in Fallout 3) but if you want some mindless exploring, they're very good at that. I spent hundreds of hours in Tamriel and the Capital Wasteland. But like their strengths, they should also know their weaknesses. And unless they have a whole new team of writers now it would be a mistake, imo, to put too much focus on the writing. Voice-overs for a main protagonist takes up a lot of resources, every sidequest you're gonna add will need new voices now. So it's likely gonna have an effect on the amount of content/sidequests in the game. Personally, I would've used those resources to simply make the gameplay/combat/exploration better.

I reached over 100 dwellers a few days ago. Most of them were from the radio station so it took awhile. My ultimate goal is to convert the vault to 100% Nuka cola bottling factory and nuclear reactors. But right now it's just casinos and fitness rooms so I can raise the army. Sadly I only have 2 legendary dwellers... Lucas Simms and Moira brown.

I had a dream where the vault 111 is the parent of vault 112. And 111 has advanced but also risky virtual reality machines and it is like the matrix movies. In the dream the pre-war places are actually just the virtual reality and when we wake up we eventually discover we are a clone and the original person is the overseer who wants to create a new body (since his original body is aging) in you but he needs to make the clone stronger and experienced before he can transfer his consciousness into you.

It would be very hard to create Mods on PS4 and X1 if they didn't release the creation kit. That said, map creation can be a bit difficult on consoles due to the lack of mouse. Hopefully, the Creation Kit will be modified to make it easier on the consoles.

That or just release it on PC and make what is created be accessible on Console. Without a keyboard a CK isn't very feasible.

Confirmed! UESP's Fallout 4 thread out of content! Recycled dialogue found on page 11! New dialogue to be sold as DLC!
Joking aside, that is a rather interesting thing. Also, the SPECIAL videos are being uploaded. Tis just marketing and explaining what each thing does so for any Fallout player, it is stating the obvious. I do wonder if Dogmeat... I mean the dog that is not Dogmeat's cousin in Boston will get dog armour and if we can attach gattling guns to the power armour.

I'm happy about the fact that you can choose to increase a SPECIAL stat instead of investing in a perk.
