So, I’m curious: do the remains of dispatched ghosts in Benirus Manor ever disappear? Yes, I’ve bought it, yes I completed the quest, yes the house has been “cleaned”. Alls well in every respect except for the pools of green ex-ghosts lying around. Can’t even “grab” them and drag them all into the fireplace or something.

Anyone?

According to this:
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion_talk:Benirus_Manor#Ghost_remains
they should disappear in a few days.

I don't remember ever running into this issue-- but after I complete the quest I usually go back to running around Cyrodiil rather than hanging around the house for too long, so maybe the ghostly remains have just disappeared by the time I revisit the manor? Is it possible that sticking near the manor and revisiting it on a regular basis can somehow prolong the amount of time that the ghostly remains are still there? Does staying well away from Anvil for several days help the game "forget" those pesky pools of ick?

Ah. Excellent. I looked at the quest discussion tab, but not at the house discussion tab. Thank you.

I guess it is possible. Countdown timers that players can accidentally reset by hanging around the area do get used in CRPGs a lot. But otoh if this were one of those cases I'd expect it to be mentioned more specifically and obviously on the wiki or talk pages.

'Just go off adventuring for a few days' works either way.

I was merely curious, since the info here claimed that the manor would be cleaned up but the remains remained. They did disappear after a while.

Better to ask and find out than to not ask and always wonder. :)

Yes indeed. I may have made a comment on how the meandering gameplay in TES games isn't everyone's cup of tea - which was meant as a general observation and not directed at anyone in particular. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Anyway it's good that Benirus Manor is cleaned up now. tbh I only really bother with the Imperial City house - because it has a centralised location that's useful when I'm in the mood to avoid fast-travel. I still do the Benirus quest though because it's pretty cool.

Who knows, maybe Anvil'd be a nice place to retire to one day.

The anvil home was cheap and fairly pleasant to look at. And anvil is nice and compact, can get all the town chores done fairly quickly... sell repair restock... Imp city is far too big to be functional. Skingrad is ugly as sin and the trader isn’t economical... At some point maybe chorrol... I did the errant knight early, so I do use the lodge a lot. Close to leyawiin, easy access to armorer training, easy access to everscamps, fire and steel trader Rashinda(?) is a good deal...

I always buy all available houses in Oblivion and Skyrim, whether I spend any time in them or not. I also tend to make the Imperial City home (humble though it is) my main base of operations due to its centrality, but I do store loot in the other houses, especially loot that I get from adventuring in the areas around each city or from doing quests that start in that city.

During my current replay of Oblivion I'm taking things at a more leisurely pace, focusing on one faction at a time. When I finally finish all of the quests, I'm planning to spend a lot of time in each city, following a daily or weekly routine as though I'm an actual resident. This will include redecorating each house; stocking it with all manner of clothing, jewelry, armor, weapons, dinnerware, food, drink, potions, alchemy gear and ingredients, books, etc.

Eeek. With the ridiculously fiddly nature of moving items around I couldn’t imagine a task more daunting. I own 3 properties at this point. The Lodge I store only 6 bows and 25 repair hammers to use for armorer training. In Skingrad I keep only my enchantment gear and foods. Plus I deposited all my Varla and Welkynd stones. Them things are HEAVY. Leyawiin wasthere when I needed it, but I don’t really use it. I drop of a few no name swords there now and again for when I need to cut up everscamps...

Yeah, it would definitely be an "end-game" activity for when I've finished everything else and have little else to do in the game! :)
