Mr. Evil-i, what you've just wrote is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this forum is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

umbra is always there but i think the sword becomes the best possible leveled version at 15, same with her armor i think. i got it at 15 and it stayed as a zero weight item for quite a while. i still have it but i wish i hadnt bothered to tell clavicus vile no. personally i say keep it, i like the enchantment as my character sucks at magic so i need some soul trap and as zero weight item it rocks.

I killed the Voinian Dreadnought with a UE Fighter armed with Swivel Phase Cannons.

I can assure you, it takes more than just skill— you need a healthy dose of madness as well.

Oh come on. Don't be so coy and evasive. Tell us how you really feel.
So, reading between the lines, I guess you'd take Umbra over the Masque?

I always did that little trick where you could finish the quest and keep the sword weightless. Simply put, it was never my main weapon, but it combined with Azura's Star kept my main weapons charged, which made it very useful for me, not to mention the fact it has a high base damage for a longsword, which means you can still get the sneak attack bonus.

Umbra. Most of my weapons are enchanted, so a sword with a soul trap enchantment combined with a ridiculous amount of soul jems AND Azura's Star is great for me.

Seeing as Umbra has no damaging enchantment, and I can create a more effective weapon by beefing up a Daedric Longsword with a Transcendent Sigil Stone, I handed it over. The Masque of Clavicus Vile isn't that impressive in terms of stats, but it looks good on my shelf back at Rosethorn Manor.

Plus, what's the point of having a Soul Trap spell on a weapon when any fool can use (or learn to use) the Soul Trap spell? I'm playing as an Orc without any magic branches (bar alchemy) as major skills, and spent about three minutes getting my Mysticism skill to level 25, at which point I could cast Soul Trap.

Umbra = Poos.

perhaps, but

a character who doesnt want to use mess around with spells will need Umbra

also soul trap with the sword for 120 seconds then switch to your sigil enchanted maximum damage weapon and you're laughing cos most of my fights are over in that time 8)

Yea I personally go for the mask. I never liked Umbras enchant, if I would give Soul Trap to anything it would be a dagger (My favorite weapon for those utility chants). Also with some characters I like having Personality for roleplay.

I handed it over.

I think the lore behind the mask is interesting, and if I use a sword I use the Ebony Blade.

This quest isn't just a test of your bravery and fighting skills by taking on a powerful opponent, it's really a test of your integrity. You made a pact with Mr Vile and gave him your word that you would return the sword to him. What is your word worth? Will you give in to your avarice and keep the powerful shiney trinket for yourself? Can Barbas, the little devil whispering in your ear, push you over to the [censored] side of the ethical line and persuade you to take the easy way out?

This is the only Daedric Quest I can think of that has two possible official outcomes which satisfy the "Quest Complete" requirement. Pure speculation, but I believe that your choice in the resolution of this quest was meant to trigger some later in-game mini quest or event, where things play out and you are re-rewarded according to the behaviour you've shown previously, but, like so many other things, this quest extension didn't make it to production. Perhaps the virtuous selfless player who exchanged Umbra for a useless Hallowe'en masque would have gotten a more useful reward, while the greedy self-obsessed player would have been effed-over in some way. Or, in true twisted Daedric style, the opposite could have happened, where no good deed goes unpunished.

i think it is all dependent on your character.. if blade is one of your major skills keep umbra... but don't finish the quest. because if you finish the quest, when you want umbra, umbra wont be weightless anymore
