As part of Bethesda's E3 showcase last night, they showed a trailer for an upcoming digital strategy card game for the Elder Scrolls series.

Literally all that has been revealed about it is that it will be on PC and iPad, that it will be free-to-play, and that it's coming sometime in 2015.

And filled with Microtransactions! This is just a waste of resources and should have been turned into a harmless mini game for ESO or the next TES. Just no, Bethesda.

It has nothing to do with Bethesda, or ESO/ZOS for that matter. It's being developed by Dire Wolf Digital, since Bethesda is a little tied up with Fallout 4 right now to work on anything TES-related. How is it a waste of resources for ZeniMax to invest in a card game? They make a profit, we get a free spin-off. It's great news. Wasting ESO or TES6 development time on an unwanted card mini-game? That might be considered a waste of resources.

When is saw the title of the trailer on youtube I thought "My God, this is the best year ever, we're going to get another TES game and Fallout 4 together!", but then the video... my hopes were shattered in a million pieces. I'm just interested in what they'll introduce new to the lore.

I for one am cautiously optimistic about this game. I was honestly very shocked to see all of the dislikes that the trailer had on it.

I don't see an issue with an ES card game, although I'm not too interested in it myself.

Great, we're going to have to look at how other sites organize card collections. My gut reaction says we'll either do it by the set/deck/whatever they call a group of similar cards, or by individual cards. If we do it by the latter, this will at least be a nice boost to our page count.

Here's the card list on the wiki for Rage of Bahamut, a mobile card game that I play. I like the table format, but it would be better if it were possible to, say, add checkboxes to just make only certain cards appear (say, I want one in the Gods realm with SSR rarity that has a "boost to attack" ability). And here's a good example of an individual card's page. (This one probably has my favorite art, btw, and this one's up there too and that's actually a card I have. Shame that they've stopped caring about their users; the game was great back in like 2012, but they've made some bad decisions, and I think the one they announced about two weeks ago is going to put the nail in the coffin: they've basically made it so that you need to purchase items to participate in events - and they've gotten rid of all events except for the one that is the most item-intensive - and it's impossible to get even halfway okay cards without events.)

I don't want to poo poo on the thread. All I'm gonna say is that I hate card nerd games, and as someone before mentioned this just seems like a blind attempt to pump microtransactions out of stupid consumers. But others will probably like it, which means there's a market for it, which means "companies" will continue to churn out garbage for a quick profit. And that makes me a sad panda.

Well, it's been in the works since before Hearthstone went to beta.

Yeah, but it's pretty clear that they had trouble deciding what to do with it until they saw what Hearthstone was doing.

Why do you assume that?

Because whenever there's a successful product several clones are made? For all we know, Bethesda has dozens of products that they consider and it seems highly coincidental that the one Bethesda chose entirely independently just so happened to be very similar to the highly successful Hearthstone game. Not impossible, mind you, just unlikely.

As for the game... I might try it out, don't-diss-it-till-ya-try-it sort of thing. It will be kind of weird to see people whose first TES experience is a card game.

Is that PC as in "Personal Computer", or PC as in Windows?

I assume Windows. There's no mention of any other OS.

More surprisingly though, where's the Android support? It's 2016...

That is disapointing though, I would have liked to try it. (I'm not averse to change, just skeptical)

Well, Fallout Shelter wasn't originally on Android, but they eventually made an Android version. They said during the PAX stream today that they might look into other platforms yet for Legends.

Then it's an "up in the air" thing. I suspect Android support will come, but who can be sure?

I wasn't a massive fan of Hearthstone, and let's face it, that's what everyone is going to be comparing Legends to for as long as it exists. So I'm curious about how it's gonna stack (heh heh get it) up. Hopefully better!
