The engine bugs page says that
Quote:
Your character swims and runs faster, but walks slower, when camera is in third-person view.

However, all speedruns seem to be done in FIRST person, running of course, which directly contradicts the quote above. What gives? Is the wiki page wrong, or is every single speedrunner being suboptimal (I highly doubt it), or something else altogether?

I think a lot of ES players like to play in the first-person view because it's more immersive. Is it possible the Wiki is correct but the speedrunners aren't aware of that tidbit?

The only way I know to check the accuracy of what the Wiki says would be to run or swim from point A to point B, first in the first-person view, then again in the third-person view, and time the travel time precisely.

The runs done by the leading speedrunner, Volvulus, are so highly optimized and technically sophisticated that I very, very much doubt that he's using the slower perspective out of ignorance, so I would bet money that it's the wiki that has it wrong.
